Luke/Anakin Wasn't the Chosen One?

I always wondered this and I hoped someone here could answer it for me.

So in episode 3 they talked alot about Anakin being the chosen one, the Jedi that would destroy the Sith but was he? Long after both Luke and Anakin died there were Sith (Darth Krayt, Darth Talon, One Sith). So was it Cade that ended up being the chosen one or was it some how Luke or Anakin?

No Anakin was the chose one in Lucas's universe(that being just the movies). Though even if you add the EU, every other bad guy has never been a true dark lord of the sith(minus Palpatine coming back)...so even in the EU Anakin still was the chosen one. Edited by Wolfninjajedi

Anakin was the chosen one, that a George Lucas word of mouth fact.

You have to remember as far as George Lucas is concerned the EU doesn't exist, nothing ever happened before the moves or after or in-between (he may make an exception for the clone wars).

However that said even if you do include the EU, Sidious was most single powerful Darkside force user of all time, the Sith may go on but none will ever match him again. So you could say the the destiny of the Chosen One was to do destroy the ultimate Sith, rather than the entire Sith Order.

Because if Anakin/Luke hadn't stopped Sidious nobody else ever would have. The Sith would have ruled the galaxy forever.

The official EU explanation is this:

Darth Bane created a new line of Sith who, by their actions, unbalance the Force. This line consisted of Darth Bane, Darth Zannah, Darth Plageuis, Darth Sidious, Darth Maul, Darth Tyrannus, and Darth Vader. The prophesy said "Sith" but was referring to the Sith who followed the tradition of Darth Bane.

Darth Bane was killed by Darth Zannah, and the line continued with the student killing the mentor until Darth Sidious. Darth Sidious first trained Darth Maul who was thought to have been killed by Obiwan Kenobi, he did die to someone at some later time however. Darth Sidious then trained Darth Tyranis, who was eventually killed by Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker. Darth Sidious eventually turned Anakin Skywalker, and Darth Vader arose.

When Anakin Skywalker returned to the Light Side he effectively killed Darth Vader. That left the only remaining Banite Sith to be Emperor Palpatine. Luke Skywalker's plea however, the same one which restored Anakin Skywalker, also gave him the resolve needed to kill Darth Sidious. With Sidious and Vader dead the Banite Sith line had been ended.

The death of Darth Sidious, no matter how temporary it was, was enough to undo the imbalance the Bane line had caused in the Force. That was the prophesy of the Chosen One. Anakin Skywalker by destroying the last two Banite Sith, Vader and Sidious, brought balance to the Force.

This rebalancing was felt along the galaxy as well. Dark Siders seemed to lose a considerable amount of their power while the powers of the Jedi who were still around suddenly seemed to be enhancing judging from how many came out of the woodwork and how dramatically even Luke Skywalker grew in power.

This, however, was not the only prophesy.

The second prophesy was told in the Journal of the Whills and spoke of the Son of Suns who would drive back darkness and spread light throughout the galaxy. This prophesy refers to Luke Skywalker. The Darkness was the return of Emperor Palpatine who was poised to once more rule the Galaxy.

Luke Skywalker played a dangerous gambit but eventually broke free of the Dark Side and the Emperor and confronted him. The two engaged in a lightsaber duel but Luke defeated the Emperor and maimed him, at the same time he destroyed all of Palpatine's clones. Palpatine then became an embodiment of the Dark Side and Luke Skywalker matched him by becoming an embodiment of the Light Side.

The two sides of the Force clashed in an all out and terrifying battle. In the end the Emperor was defeated, the Light Side had defeated the Dark Side.

This sounds a little over the top, not dissimilar to DBZ.

this is supported by fact GL stated anakin is chosen one by allowing vader to die and killing palpatine thus the chosen was meant to destroy the rule of two.

I agree with the EU take on the subject; Lucas' view of the universe is rather boring, regarding what happens before & after the Saga. The Banite Sith, particularly Plagueis & Sidious with their attempt to create life, drove the Force out of balance; so the Force reacted by creating Anakin, the Chosen One. But--perhaps as a side effect of the Sith's attempt at creation, perhaps just because of the circumstances around Anakin's discovery by the Jedi and manipulation by Palpatine, Anakin tipped into darkness & was lost for decades. Finally he switched back, destroyed the Banite Sith, and balance was restored...

...but other Sith, non-Banites, were still out there, largely isolated, not trying to create life and twist the very nature of the Force to their wills. Lucas may think the dark side was a cancer, but it was a cancer in remission until Bane came along, and only really got malignant when Darth Plagueis decided to try that experiment w/ his apprentice.
