As for PvE, you should be fine on almost any class that was good in 5.5, the main difference will be PvP right now.

Marauder will stay on top of the Melee Meta while Assassin/Powertech/Juggernaut will be on the low-end on their dps spec, their tank spec will be more than fine right now. Operative will keep being in the middle pack right now, they are powerfull, but hard to play, which reduces their ranking by a bit Sorcerer are on the low-mid right now, decent ability to survive but low overall damage.

Snipers, Marauder and Mercenary will still be the go to in terms of damage and survivability after 5.6 gets released.

 

As for tank, all of them have a decent dps if you play them right, so you usually don't have to worry much, if you switch into full dps gear for PvP though, you better learn how to use your defensive ability, as well as having some healers in your friend list, but damage output won't be an issue.

Yeah, if you can play them right, you shouldn't have any issue with those.

You'll be able to play the Merc, just won't be totally broken anymore.
