Summer of SWTOR Update

Recommended Posts

Honesty is a lie, there is only misleading; Through misleading, I waste my time; Through wasting my time, I become frustrated; Through frustration, I gain bitterness; Through bitterness, I unsub; My chains are broken = I uninstall the game?

Even the full time Republic players are chanting this mantra right now!

The only thing thats amazing about the list of things coming in the Summer of SWTOR is how incredibly underwhelming it is.

If people don't enjoy PvP offering more coms to do it isn't going to change anything. Except to make it so people find PvPing when there isn't a bonus slow and pointless. There is yet to be a meaningful reason to PvP.

The Casino looks like it is clicking on a slot machine for the chance to win some tokens which I can trade in for some probably ugly garish gear. After all the stuff in the Cartel Market isn't great and that you want people to pay for.

As for the changes to group finder it looks like you are just trying make it so you don't need to get good gear to compete. But then what is the point of doing operations after the first play through if it isn't for the gear? I can't say I found getting one shot by some super power as much fun. But you want the top tier gear you had to make it through with no one making a mistake. Now it seems I can turn up with green gear and get bolstered. But if this is the case what do I need the top tier gear for that will only become junk once the level cap is raised and standard level 60 gear will be almost as good and bolster can fill in the gap.

Now I agree with making ops and flash points less punishing if you make a mistake and being able to learn from mistakes without a wipe. Which is the exact opposite of what is being offered with Nightmare Mode. Learning more mechanics and wiping when someone forgets on the 3 phase of boss forgets everyone has to run to a certain spot and hop on their left leg adds very little to the experience. I suspect would see few people bothering to play if you didn't offer higer tier gear. So you have to ask if the only reason people play it is for better gear was it a good investment in time and resources coming up with more ridiculous instant death mechanics.

As for the 2 events I doubt you would find one subscriber in a hundred that isn't done with them. While the one thats haven't been played to ad nauseam aren't going to make an appearance.

If this summer of SWTOR was meant to be impressive you have horribly under achieved. There is nothing there that makes me want to log in or even excited for the future of TOR. This doesn't seem like anything to be proud of let alone make TOR this look like an impressive summer.

Where is the new story (I still don't know the result of the defeat of the dread masters), where are new species (not Voss) where are new companions (not Voss), New solo PvE Content , meaningful PvP, real additions to GSF over and above another ship. Its hard to see what the plan for TOR is but it doesn't seem to be going from strength to strength but rather half measures that doesn't bring anything new to the game.

Wow....

Devs, you should give this post the same respect as the effort its author put into writing it. (i.e. None)

As for the road-map, looks good. Adding Bolster to SMs is a great idea. Looking forward to the Casino event, but not sure why it is time limited.

Me too, the casino event would give new life to SWTOR and I could see a lot of people coming back to enjoy it. I know I'll be playing it every day during the event.

Ohhhhh the possibilities... but I'll limit myself to core development.

I'd flat out tell them to quit trying the tease. You can get away with that if your population is excited but this is not the case for many people now. We've been begging them for solid info for many moons and they've been more miserly with details than Scrooge McDuck and his wallet. Nope, the "exciting new" and "something big" are just sounding like desperate marketing at this point.

The next thing I'd tell them is that they absolutely must step back and fix the cadence. Reserving multiple releases for a single aspect is KILLING them. This is an MMO and content is king. Ops, FPs, Warzones and now GSF need fresh content releases at a reasonable rate. As mentioned before, new modes of existing content does not count as "fresh".

Oops, there is one operational suggestion: Weekly server reboots. Even if there is no patch, the servers get bounced every Tuesday. I and many in my guild notice that the longer those servers go without a patch (and presumably a reboot) the flakier and buggier things get.

There has not been a better post in quite some time.

Well, some of the features you guys have mentioned are looking good. I like what I read on the PTS forums about giving Fleet comms for Starfighter matches. It makes sense to me actually. I like that you'll be opening up more ops for the GF queue, even if it's on a rotating schedule (which doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but whatever) and the fact that it bolsters undergeared characters is nice. I like the whole Nar Shaddaa Nightlife event idea. However, slot machines are hardly going to keep my interest for long.

Now throw in some PvP pazaak, sabacc, or dejarik matches and I might be a frequent customer...

Will that "big thing" be story content? Because I for one would like story content. I'm not particularly excited about a slot machine mini-game that's probably going to run on Cartel Coins.

Can we talk about story content?

Re-read what he said. He said credits, not cartel coins.

"The usual host of additional features, including some graphics improvements"

For the love of all that is holy please be DX11 Support.

All major MMO's have DX11 support and now that GPU's are DX11 first and DX9 second, I'm getting graphical glitches I never had w/ my older GPU's from 2k11. Even WoW and LOTRO have DX11 support and they're older than molasses.

Please: DX11 and 64bit (You know, for that tiny amount of RAM that's common in recent computers...)

Alternatively I'd take a 64 Bit Linux Client using steam instead of bitraider. xD

Well, I noticed that on the PTS they now have an "Ultra" setting, which though it lagged my FPS to hell on Tython, I didn't have any problems on Korriban or even on the fleet... and... I could be mistaken... but I think my character was in High Resolution... outside of a cutscene... Anyone that can verify that I was not just imagining that my character was high-res?

*Except the Rakghoul Resurgence. Obviously, the Rakghoul plague was completely eliminated the last time, and the galaxy is absolutely safe from another outbreak. Right?

Shut up.

Heeeey! I was wondering when someone useless would join the conversation!

Lighten up fella, its just a bit of fun. Please BW don't listen to this guy, I like the childish sillyness its part of the charm of the public relations team, and things would be dull without it, a bit like the quoted user as it goes.

I see no "fun" or "charm" in it, just nonsense.

...and we have a lot of folks working on something very big for later this year that I have yet to give details on.

So, is this one of those situations where the reason you haven't told us any details, is because if you DO divulge information on it, a big, creepy sith will cut your tongue out with a lightsaber? Y'know, kinda pull a Star Wars version of the pharaoh from The Mummy?

It's simpler then that in my view:

Bioware has been getting relentlessly beaten up on the forum here for not having lots of little content nuances that people crave. Of course this is no pleasure or importance to the hardcore OPs crowd.... but that goes directly to the point here..... SWTOR is a broad appeal MMO.

The challenge with broad appeal MMOs is they tend to not meet the expectations of hardcore-niche players. But they do offer play diversity for a broad audience.. and broad audiences is where the revenue is in MMOs (WoW made the market chase broad appeal). You can go broad appeal, or you can tune for niche players. In today's market... you make broad appeal content, and you let the hardcore extreme need players find that in an MMO designed specifically for their desires.

SWTOR plays best for players that take time to explore and play all parts of the game, not just one or two things. Thing is.. many MMO players really do not understand the difference in design philosophy between niche games and broad appeal games. MMO players are their own worst enemies when they continue to play an MMO that simply does not provide the niche content they desire.

I tip my hat to you! If everyone was like you man!

Events! We will be running every one* of our major recurring events over the period between 2.8 and 2.9. Events include:

  • Double XP Weekend
  • Gree Event
  • Bounty Contract Week

*Except the Rakghoul Resurgence. Obviously, the Rakghoul plague was completely eliminated the last time, and the galaxy is absolutely safe from another outbreak. Right?

May the Force be with you,

Bruce Maclean

So I trust that you guys have implemented a way to turn of Double XP during the events, or should all of those who do not wish to participate in Double XP plan on cancelling our subs for the summer and playing other games?

Andryah is a she by the way, and absolutely correct (as *almost* usual).

I rather doubt it. To my knowledge, there has never been a single yellow post acknowledging the requests to disable double xp, let alone any promise of adding a feature to turn it off.

Do you have any max-level characters you could spend time with instead of doing leveling?

That would be no.

That would be no.

Ah, too bad.

It's funny, I used to be more baffled at the complaints about double XP, and would generally insist everyone is already overleveled (or skipping quests) anyway. But my most recent leveling experiment showed that it's completely feasible to NOT overlevel content all while doing both class and planetary quests.

If you have no xp perks, no xp boosts, no rested xp (to speak of), do no PvP, no space missions, no heroics, and no flashpoints, then it actually is feasible.

I've stayed 1 level below content from Nar Shaddaa all the way through to Voss so far, and have done every (and I do mean EVERY) class and planetary and side quest, and have not been skipping mobs either. (I haven't done the Bonus Series quest lines, which would no doubt push me over)

Anyway, I just wanted to revise any previous statements I've made on this subject. If you stick to class quests, planetary quests (except bonus series), side quests and area quests, (and of course no double XP) you can see all the quests and not get overleveled.
