So I just finished the Jedi knight story...

Thought it was supposed to be good? I guess the overall theme was ok but I found the ending kind of simple and short. Still not bad. Just thought it would be better.

Only have one story left and thats the jedi counselor and I have a sage at 32. So far I rank them as follows

Imperial Agent

Sith Inquisitor (actually pretty close to agent. I like the big picture but not the individual parts so much)

Sith Warrior (overall ploy may not be as good as Jedi knight, but the pieces are great and dramatic at times)

Jedi Knight

Smuggler

Bounty Hunter/Commando at the bottom.

So far Jedi Counselor has been about the worst.

Knight story is heroic high fantasy. Comparing it to the Agent story is like comparing an apple to an orange.

As far as your ranking goes, Warrior takes the cake for me, Agent close second, then Knight, all the way down to Inquisitor at the bottom (probably because I expected so much more from a Palpatine-esque rise to power, story-wise).

Yeah, I like the overall rise to power and it really fits being darker as you go, but the ghosts and some of the running just was kind of...meh. If it wasn't for the character actor, I probably would drop it down.

Inquisitor has to be my favorite of all the Imperial classes's stories. It's more of a working your way from the bottom of the pile type story. Not going into more than that due to spoilers ;). But I will say that I enjoyed the Knight story quite well, as well as the Agent's. The Bounty Hunter's is a bit iffy for me, though.

My main gripes with the Inquisitor story are as follows. First, for a supposed master manipulator, you sure get manipulated a lot, and it seems like you don't make any meaningful choices to screw anyone over Inquisitor style the guys on Balmorra comes close, but lack impact). Second, the character doesn't feel like they wield actual power. Practically, others do things for you - kill your enemies, look for stuff, determine best course of action. And it doesn't actually feel like the Inquisitor is in authority, too. The underlings seem to be making more meaningful choices than the character themselves.

But yes, the voice acting is awesome. Got a male Sorc and a female Sin - the lady easily has the best voice acting in the entire game, closely tied with the male Sith Warrior.

To be fair, I think the point of the Inquisitor story was a kind of deconstruction of the 'master manipulator's planned rise to power' trope. Whether people would have preferred it played straight I don't know, but I think the story as intended is that, no, you didn't step out of

the slave pens on the ship to Korriban, look up and think "Right, Dark Council seat, I'm havin' that

but instead pretty much everything you did was a reaction to immediate necessities, based on advice, experience, and frequently, the lack of any other choice- that the Sith Empire *made* the monster who will probably be the next Emperor, and the all-controlling omniscient Sith

who is Darth Nox, who drove her way from the slave pens to the Dark Council by sheer willpower and scheming

is in fact, pretty much, a public image.

That's not to say that the Inquisitor doesn't *take* control- but, yes, I think it's intentional that if our Inquisitor were to say "Everything that has transpired has done so according to my designs" it would be because that comment inspires more confidence and/or fear than "I made it up as I went along and I haven't died yet, so trust me, I know absolutely what I'm doing!"

The thing is - aside the lack of politics, intrigue, manipulation, it doesn't *feel* like you're pushing your way to power yourself. It really feels like you're along for the ride, your crew pushing you to galvanization points, only for other (dead) people to do your job for you. The effing Jedi Consular feels more powerful in terms of power that belongs to them, and is not borrowed.

To be entirely honest, the only truly memorable part of the story was Belsavis, but only because it was about mind-blowing Rakata Lore that happened to be in the Inquisitor story, and not about the Inquisitor story itself.

Belsavis was a good planet for inquisitor. Particularly if you were dark. (and why the hell wouldn't you be?)

Been taking a break this weekend to drink beer and watch movies, but will continue the counselor story when I get a chance. I'm at level 32 and it hasn't drawn me in but I hope to get it done in the next 2-3 weeks with my casual play. It get any better?

Consular story is very slow burn. It "stacks" on itself, gaining depth, and picks up the pace somewhat , but doesn't reach Knight dynamics. It has a lot of rewarding "oh, hell, I KNEW IT!" titbits cropping up here and there. To fully enjoy it, you need to keep some things in your head. Otherwise it may seem uninteresting.

The final Big Bad was a very fun revelation, regardless of your approach.

sorry can't resist, but an apple and an orange are both fruit, they are both round, both grow on trees. you can compare an apple and an orange, and they have alot in common actually. so there goes your argument. yes i am kidding.

on a serious note, i've noticed that the Imp side stories are more dramatic and the choices more meaningful than the pub side. Any one of these stories is miles ahead of any other MMOs leveling experience though.

Just finished Knights story yesterday evening - i gotta say i didnt like it too much. Quite predictable, rather boring - but i guess it was to be expected from one of the most cannonic archetypes in star wars.

My biggest issue with it - i was playing DS to make it a bit more entertaining - is that LS/DS choices didn't have that much impact (maybe besides companion affection, which was massive on several occasions, for example -190 with Doc when i decided to kill some1 instead of letting him live).

IMHO there is a great potential in making the DS way more interesting in that story, maybe not joining the empire/becoming sith (couse that would be rather silly), but leaving the Order after Satele declares that you are not ready to be a Master - thus becoming a Dark Jedi (see Darth Bane books for reference for example. Maybe receiving the "Dark Jedi" title by this.

I've got only two stories left to see and that are Sith Warrior and Smuggler ones. So far my ranking would be:

1. Imperial Agent - brilliant, just brilliant. Plot twists, your choices actually matter and shape your future, voice acting, great, not obvious companions, interesting NPC's. That story had it all + more. Definitely best one, played it twice and it was always top quality fun.

2. Sith Inquisitor - from zero to hero with a dark (sometimes VERY dark) theme + some quality fun DS moments. I tried to play it more balanced, more pragmatic and i felt like it was a good choice.

Companions were quite nice and i gotta say i LOVE Lord Zash, definitely one of my favourite characters in swtor.

@manipulating/being manipulated topic - you could argue that SI should be master conspirator, but lets be honest - you were simply a slave, you dont know the "big world", you are learning it during the story, and having such ego makes you quite easy target to manipulate (dont remember the specifics, as it was quite some time ago, but i felt like restraining my total DS attitude gave me more benefits on few ocassions, from a pragmatic point of view).

3. Bounty Hunter. The story might not be overall great - predictable (maybe except the start of ACT 2), so-so written etc. Thing is, BH story had that great "feeling" of being a bounty hunter and HAD THOSE FEW MOMENTS.

- Alderaan - punching the noble man, i mean, hell yeah i could replay that story just to do it again.

- Very good chapter one, with a bad guy you really wanted dead.

- The plot twist with becoming Republics public enemy number 1

- The party crash in Nar Shaadaa Casino

- this :

and few others similiar to this one :)

Companions were also very good, and many players have a love/hate reltionship with at least a few of them (mind you that is a symptom of a well written character).

4. Jedi Knight.

5. Trooper - boring, predictable, almost no interesting characters/companions (maybe with a few exceptions, see spoiler) - but it was similiar to the BH story in having the "feeling" of really being the Havoc Squad member, and a top soldier in the Republic. Biggest problem in this story though is no real "bad guy", just mission, after mission, after mission.

Why the hell isn't Sergeant Jaxo a companion is beyond me, really.

Female Trooper could have a short but rather amusing romance with a SIS guy, especially amusing if you have Jorgan with you.

M1-4X is extremely funny :)

General Garza, despite being hated by most players (by me as well) is really a convincing and well written character.

Also, big + (if you are a female) is the "girl-only" party with Jaxo and few others :)

6. Consular story. I hated it, it was so boring it made me want to skip it and do almost only FP and PVP during leveling. Played it on DS - as i dont like being LS in the republic, to make it maybe a bit more surprising, but no. It was often a choice of being all LS Jedi-way bull#*@%, or rather silly DS crap. Didnt get attached to a single character throughout the whole story. Well ok, maybe Tharan+Holiday were nice from time to time, but thats it.

Sorry for the wall of text, tbh i didnt expect it to be so huge:P

I've just finished the Sith Warrior story and it's my favorite so far, mind you I've only played the Inquisitor and half of the Imperial Agent and Jedi Guardian. Didn't care much for the Inquisitor story tbh. Agent story might have been a little overhyped, but it's the only one where I actually felt like not min/maxing my dark & light side choices. My Agent was a nice person at heart but put emotional feelings aside when it came to serving the empire & always got the job done. I had fun up to a point, maybe I should keep going though because I'm sure it only gets better.

Female Sith Warrior has the best voiceover imo, so b*adass. Male warrior is good too but not quite as convincing somehow.

I want to make a Vanguard next but everyone says the trooper story is so bland :(

I have finished all the classes and I have to say the one I found the least rewarding was the Trooper

Now don't get me wrong, I loved the Trooper story in a lot of places and I think it was very close to my idea of Republic Soldier plus I loved the game play etc.

What really did annoy me was a) Having to choose between 300+ People and a popular NPC's life - I mean come on, I'm head of Havoc Squad, one of my missions, the Esseles, showed how awesome I could be in such a situation, I was greatly disappointed in that choice I had to make and b) the ending itself which was - beat the main big bad guy up, arrest him...only to be told he had been traded in so the Empire got their big bad guy back

All the other classes I felt were fitting to their stories and I've very little complaint about any of them.

I agree the end was a tad underwhelming. but compared to the other classes it seems the most StarWars-ish and dramatic. particularly on the Pub side. Considering they had 8 stories with 3 chapters each on their plate, i was quite satisfied with how knight played out. But i've never completed an imperial toon so idk.
