No, I think what happened here is something else: Every tree and bush has a detailed version and a smaller version that gets displayed when you are far away from the tree. This is called a billboard. It seems that for this particular bush, the small version is missing or bugged, which is why you just saw those gray squares instead of a miniature bush. However, it could also just be an issue with the computer/graphics card; only when everyone sees the same thing can this be considered a bug. Laurreth Posted May 8, 2014 Share Posted May 8, 2014 I'd agree if the engine would even bother with impostors for shrubs at that distance, but it sadly doesn't (otherwise places like Alderaan wouldn't lok so bad). There are some locations where you can arbitrarily produce those issues even at much closer distances, e.g., by standing in a certain area by the GSI mission terminal on Nar Shaddaa and putting the camera near the ceiling, or by being in a certain spot on Voss and putting the camera in a crack between rocks. KurganNazzir Posted May 8, 2014 Share Posted May 8, 2014 I've seen this happen on Balmorra for quite a while and I've seen it happen with mountain sides and buildings (the dread seed area, those ruins and all that stuff). For whatever reason, some stuff doesn't render properly at long distance, not that this game has ever been real good at long distance rendering. Some of the imposter trees on Voss and Belsavis do really strange things, as well, but probably aren't as noticeable to most folks because they at least still look kind of like trees. I'm actually trying to recall if I saw the white boxes before they added the dread seed area, it's possible to have started at that time. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I think that was just a coincidence, that the assets loaded at the same time that you dismounted because I've sat on my speeder staring at the white boxes watching them disappear. If I ride around on my speeder I see them all over the place, and they disappear as you get closer to them, but new ones appear further off in the distance. As soon as I dismount, they all disappear at the same time. I don't move a single millimeter, hop back on my speeder and they all reappear instantly. Show me some screenshots of these while you're not mounted, oh wait, you can't. I think it has something to do with how the camera zooms out a little and widens the camera angle while you're mounted...and it only seems to affect certain landscape models, and seemingly only on Balmorra as I've never seen this anywhere else in the game.
