Do people hate or love Galactic Starfighter?

I really rather enjoyed it. My only qualms are that there's only two maps and one game type.

Unlike other people, I've not found problems with mouse sensitivity (perhaps because I play a scout and they're rather nimble?), I found the controls really rather easy to get to grips with, I don't see where the problem. Furthermore both factions seem to be on a pretty level playingfield, the scores are usually close between factions.

Improvements? Sure

-- Cockpit view

-- Joystick control

-- Sensitivity options and keybindings

-- BF style ground-space transition (probably an unrealistic expectation given engine limitations)

All in all, I think the ground combat could learn a thing or two from GS -- controlling your own aim and evading attacks manually is a helluva lot more interesting than relying entrely on an invisible die system.

Had my first game, I think my ship was really slow the gunship, probably not the best ship to start with. the enemy would whiz past and I could barely target them. Compared to other games like WoWP it's not something you can simply jump into and play imo. Edited by LordRaeth

I felt like Jek Porkins out there it was humiliating and not very fun bouncing around attempting to lock in on enemy ships with no success at all. It quickly became a headache. I may give it a few more tries but the outlook at this moment looks like another space portion of this game that I won't play very much.

I'm in the same boat. I'm going to keep trying to see if I get any better. With that being said, when I play I feel like I'm playing with a squirt gun while every on else has a P90. Is there a tutorial or something that would help for us total rookies? I could see this being so frustrating to someone brand new to the game that it would turn them completely off.

Add me as a hater - I've sorted out mouse sensitivity issues on my naga but still find it far too difficult to make sense of what's going on, where I am and why everybody is flying faster than me, despite using the boosters. I was a massive fan of the tie fighter/x-wing series and older stuff like elite but this doesn't even come close to being as good despite it looking very nice. And why are spawn points so far away...

Gonna keep trying but so far, so very disappointed:(

I like it. It's some solid gameplay, definitely Star-Warsy, and something different to waste time on. Balance so far looks decent too. All in all, it's way better than I'd expected, expecially after seeing the teaser videos.

Coming from genre legends like Wing Commander or Freespace, I'm surely missing stuff like first-person cockpit view and proper stick control, and Bioware's "warm space" design is too cluttered for my taste… it's not "cold, lonely vacuum".

I hope that enough players keep playing it, and that at least two or three new maps will hit the game rather quickly after Bioware gathered enough data from the "subscriber beta". That way it can at least tide me over until Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous hit. (And if those aren't good, Roberts and Braben will have questions to answer! There's a dev video of ED with a guy "playing" it with an X52, a scene that made me rock hard.)

At first i hated it,though seeing as its a game mode i'm not used to,i kept playing. After trying out both striker and scout,i can safely say that i both love and hate GSF.I love ship customization(wtb more patterns and colors that don't cost CC) going full throttle on a scout then shooting the crap out of someone, and the maps look pretty good, even if they feel cluttered at times with debris etc.

On the other hand i hate the damn co-pilots,can't go 5 seconds without them saying something. At first it was a nice little touch, now its repetetive crap like pay-tv,same **** over an over. The evasive skills propelling me forward after using them, whats the point in doing a 180 that is meant to have me facing my enemy and be able to fight back, when i just propel forward as if i had held the space bar.

Overall it feels like it could have potential, seeing as this is early access theres plenty of time before the feb release to polish it a bit more.Only problem i really see is CC cost for stuff.Different colors costing CC is ridiculous, especially at 480 each, just have it cost ship/fleet requisition.

Its meh.. Seems more like Star Fox on speed tbh..

"Do a Barrel Roll Fox"

The sound/feeling and mechanics that are killing it for me.

The sound of getting hit is rather non existent, All you really have to go by is the red flashes on HUD and your copilot whining.

The feel is just meh, the target reticle is garbage, or i should say target reticle's as there is more than one.

I really hate the way you can't lead enough or too much. its real sloppy imo, the guns should be fixed and the lead guide would be fine.

Once a missile is locked and fired its almost impossible to miss then its Star Fox time... "DO A BARREL ROLL FOX"!!!!" sometimes its better to just eat the missile... would have been happy with just Chaff or Flare tbh.. So far I dont even think the environment even blocks the missile.

So much crap to run into and those nodes in the base type things are a real buzz kill.... well having nodes period is a buzz kill...

All in all its supposed to be Star Wars>>>> Attacking/Defending a base or cap ships, escorting bombers... You can get this kind of Node space play in about every other arcade space shooter and some are a lot better than this.

Its strange BIOWARE you have access to all this Lucas stuff and you missed the B.O.P (Balance or Power) pack for XvT That was one of the greatest Mission/PVE/PVE mixture of all time in a space game, you could Co-op/ to run the missions for PVE or actually human players on the other faction for a PVP while doing the mission...

Oh well!!!:csw_destroyer:

Its awful, just plain awful.

There is no immersion in it. The sounds are bad, the controls are bad, the entire system is bad.

Camera angle, far too close the ship.

Space key for boost, when nearly every game that has a 'boost/sprint' function has it as shift.

Zero real skill involved, all RNG. What the hell is with '20% evasion chance' in space combat?! Space combat is about skill. If i aim right, i want to know 100% that I actually hit my target.

There is no physics at all. You can go from boosting to zero speed instantly.

Aiming reticule being able to move out of the main big reticule is a bad idea. Along with being unable to change the colour of it, im often unable to even find where the reticule is in the first place with all the over the top explosions and space debris.

Minimap is useless unless i have my face 5cm from the screen. Cant tell whats what.

Have no real indication where im being shot from, or being shot at, except for the small red marker that comes up.

Teaches people nothing at all about how to play their class, so it really makes the whole thing pointless. I dont wanna get into a FP or even god forbid, and operation with someone thats leveled purely in space pvp.

Also, what the hell is with people doing 50k damage, at 40-50% accuracy, constantly getting 20+ kills and zero deaths...

imma have to wonder what everyone is having a problem with in sensitivity ...my naga is amazing its super sensitive and i dotn have any issues with it are people saying its too sensitive or not sensitive enough? the controls are very reactive and although sometimes my mouse gets stuck on my other monitor, thats my fault actually since i play windowed mode jsut so i CAN whiz over to my other monitor anytime i want :)

anyway all in all as i mentioned earlier i LOVE it

Galactic Starfighter just isn't fun. I feel like I am in one of them electric go karts that stop on a dime when my foot isn't on the peddle. When the ship is moving I feel like I should have a joystick. I won't be participating anymore and stick with land based pvp.

It's fairly ok, not bad but nothing to be overly excited in my book.

A few things that suck, that really, really suck:

- Way too many obstacles. I want to be able to dogfight without all these stuffs in the way, something like the maps from the Battlefront games.

- Secondary weapon. For the love of the Maker, please put a long CD on this thing. All I hear lately is that bell telling me that I'm locked. As more people get used to the full abilities of their ship, the game is turning in a spam feast of missile lock - missile lock - missile lock - missile lock - missile lock - missile lock - missile lock - missile lock... Constantly evading locks is already getting old and it's day #3.

- The camera is way too close to the ship. Let us zoom out!

I'm enjoying it and I think it will continue to get better. The things a lot of people complain about are things I think will continue to make this enjoyable to me.

The controls are not like other flight sims. Good, I haven't played a bunch of other flight sims, So learning to play this game well doesn't put me at as much of a disadvantage against people that play flight sims. We all have to learn and master these controls together.

Using the mouse is too hard and twitchy. Sooo the game actually takes some dexterity? coool. You have to train yourself to control the mouse in a way that's different from other games. In the time I've been playing I feel my mouse control getting better over time, so that means it's a skill that takes practice. Good, the more skills you have to master in a PVP game the more its about how good YOU are and less about how good your stuff is. A book on Billiards I once read pointed out that a good pool cue can help your game play but it's more a game of skill, give Minnesota Fats a broom stick with a tip on it and he'll still beat everyone in the room. That's the kind of game I want to play.

Too hard to keep track of your enemy. I live near an airforce base. Funny the fighter planes always take of and fly in pairs. So in an air battle it seems a wing man is the way to go. Same thing here. As people start grouping better and working as teams that will get better. Then the lone gun flying on his own will have to be really good to be successful.

That said, there are things that need to be fixed. More game modes, Crew selection that works properly, One thing that bugs me is when a match ends I cant just re-queue right away. I end up going back to my character on planet and waiting for that to load just to click back into starfighter and queue. A very long annoying wait time. But anyway I'm sure these things will get better over time. I like this addition to the game. and it doesn't cost anything more than the normal game. Too many people complaining about something they got for free.

Love the gameplay. Reminds me of that old game Freelancer. Only a lot more complicated.

Absolutely despise pvp. There are no words that describe how much I despise pvp.

If there was an option to play just solo for practice or something, I'd be all over that. Even if it didn't give any req, xp or creds.

I'm here to have fun, not to get blown up.

But its sooo much fun when your the one blowing you up... Keep coming back, i promise ill leave you alone....

It is certainly a step in the right direction but it is very poorly implemented imo.

For somebody that has not played any space sims maybe it could be acceptable but for me having played all Xwing/Tie series and SWG JTL it is just terrible... For the love of god add option for joystick and an inside cockpit view!! It was done in SWG 9 years ago...

Generally the ships have no responsiveness... It feels exactly the opposite from ground PvP. In SWG JTL the ship really felt responsive to your commands.

Finally for me Bioware once again let me down regarding their approach to this. I do not mind the PvP only, but I hate the fact that they involved abilities in space. Space should have been solely about navigating and aiming correctly, player skill in other words, NOT character/ship abilities!

I strongly recommend if your new to Starfighter, go into tutorial mode and dont do what your supposed to do. you'll have to deal with popup instructions that explain things you've probably already read elsewhere. Close them and just focus on flying around on a map with no one shooting at you get comfortable with what the ship can do and how your controls work. If it times out, just click on it again and start over. This will give you a bit of stress free time to get used to the controls and your HUD.
