I would like this but I would LOVE a "Build your own Companion" option that would allow you to choose their "class" from several templates, their race and gender, Name, an option from a couple voice overs, etc.

The more customization options you have on an existing companion (looks, voice, kits), the more you will approach what you are looking for. If it is the companion dialogue you want shut off, it is actually easy to do in this game.

But by whatever reason, a companion construction kit as an idea is fascinating. Sort of like Tharan's hologram. :)

Yeah I think it would be a fun way to add customization to the experience rather than always traveling with the same crew. Adding further customizations to the current roster is great and all (and we should see a lot more of that for sure) but it doesn't change the fact that these are the same characters we've been playing with since the game launched. It would be nice to have the option to create an all new companion completely of your own design, designate his "template", and roll around the game with him or her.

There doesn't really need to be much additional story either. Maybe a single generic set of quests with a Male, Female, other voice over. I'd pay good money for that.

There are so many companions in the game right now, that I just never get to that point of being tired of all 40 of them, but the less content is attached to a universal companion (aka Treek) even with expanded surficial customization the faster it will get more tiresome than one of the Original Forty (because it is basically the same for all classes). The "treek effect" so to speak. It might be something that would spruce up one run on your fav class though - and to compete with Treek and HK class of companions, rather than the Forty.

Y'know, I had my reservations about this idea, but it has grown on me. :)

Does it make sense, story-wise, for some Companions to be a different species? Probably not.

But you know what? If the player doesn't mind, then I see no reason it shouldn't be allowed. And I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of players that just want a Companion that looks appealing to them -- be that a human Ashara with their favorite hairstyle, or a Chiss Quinn -- and can deal with the potential five or ten minutes of story (if that!) in which it doesn't make sense. Especially considering that if you continue to play, you will be using your Companions for months or even years after their story is finished.

Besides, we are already allowed to make player characters that are kind of iffy lore-wise, and that don't really "make sense" during certain dialogues.

2. Place all BioWARE character customization vendor with all non-CM customizations available on the fleet at a premium cost (say 18,000 credits/equivalent CCs)

For the standard vendor customizations, I agree that they should be centrally located on one easy to access vendor. But the ones from events and the CE/SK vendors? IMHO those should remain exclusive.

8. In the Nightlife event rewards, swap Tharan and Doc's customization or in compensation for not exactly attractive Doc Customization provide an attractive one, with a more... erm conventional hairstyle. If it can be Mirialian, that would be AWESOME!

The Doc one isn't perfect, but it has a good looking face and no facial hair (which I dislike), so I use it. Mine wears a hooded chestpiece so he looks pretty cool. I am utterly baffled as to why they insisted on giving him a green mohawk though. They were so close!

I think you are right, the event ones should be tied to the events.

Oh, my, you just gave me an idea. To cover his stupid Mohawk, but keep the face pretty without the beard. For once the buggy cutscenes that keep the helmets on would benefit the player. That sand-people helmet social will do nicely! And yes, I have no idea what possessed them. I guess they had to use the new styles.

With one exception - Ashara. Locking all Ashara customization to Sk is unfair to the non-US player because thy can't get the key, and if they do not own a tablet or whatever it costs a fortune for delivery of the key.

Darn, am I too late to go waste credits on the Nightlife? Is it hard to win the customization? And where is it? It is BoL, I hope? :)

They definitely need more "standard" customizations for the poor Ashara fans. I'm glad there's one coming in the next wave of packs, at least. :)

I considered using a headpiece to hide Doc's mohawk, but I tried that on crazy-hair Andronikos and wasn't too pleased when his headpiece disappeared in his conversations. >.< Unfortunately, the "hide headgear because of potential romance and smooching" trigger is poorly implemented and seems to work regardless of romance status (my Inquisitor is a guy).

It is pretty easy to win one cert to buy a customization, but it depends on luck of course. You've got about 10 more days, so plenty of time! If you do the quest that gives you 5 free tokens on several alts (they need to have a ship), you might not even have to buy any tokens. The certs and customizations are BoL, but it appears that you can only buy them on a character that has that Companion. I had to haul my Knight from Balmorra all the way to Club Vertica to buy the one for Doc.

Yeah, I ran into that problem. I got enough tokens, but I only have Mako and Tharan in the party, didn't get to Doc or Elara yet. So, unless the vendor sticks around, I will have to buy more weapons. And yeah, i am going to drag all the chars with the ships to the casino once the plague is over, for the 5 free tokens + 25 thou to get some pretty weapons if I can't get customs :(

Maybe I should go load on coffee and run my Trooper through Coruscant and Taris... I dunno. I can maybe do it in 10 days... Definitely not Doc :(

I was browsing through the vendors yesterday, selling some stuff, and I noticed that you can now get char customizations for Reputation that is connected to shopping for CM packs.

Once again, I would rather pay CC directly into changing my companions, rather than go in a weird round-about way like that and get in the end something that I did not even create. Oh, well.

I'll throw in my support of a system such as this, though I can see why this might be an issue in the long run - it's (likely) more data per character for the server to store and reference when needed. Instead of, say, a string of characters for your PC's settings, and then a list of affection and which customization number is equipped per companion, you now need a string of PC-like values to determine how each character looks (with some exceptions - I don't see them doing this for M4, Blizz, etc.) in addition to affection levels and such. As it is, they already have issues with keeping your companions in cutscenes respecting the following:

-Unified colors (some cutscenes they do not have their colors unified)

-Helmet hidden (some cutscenes show the helmet anyway despite your settings)

-Dyes not showing on armor (some cutscenes, such as on the ship, don't show the dye color applied to their gear at all)

To be honest, I'd much rather see them fix those issues first before even thinking about tackling a "customized companion."

While helmet in cutscenes is annoying, I am, again, more interested to have the feature that applies to 99.9 % of the time than the 0.1% of the time in the cutscene. Unlike the helmets, the Custom Overlays never glitch atm, but I do not know how they track those, if it is different way they are storing the info on the companion looks. The PC appearances that were changed never glitched for me. If custom overlay is more robust than 'on the fly' changes, I would be Okay with the ability to create a custom overlay for a character. Edited by DomiSotto
