The first patch broke the slicing skill.

The second patch broke exploits.

The third patch broke more exploits.

Eight hours every time, at least, to resolve... NOTHING of the game itself. I don't care about exploits. I care about trying to play and if i can't harvest anything and Bioware is more troubled about the exploits... we've a problem. How many players are affected by the exploits? And how many about the lots of bugs?

More work for the players please.

Youre kidding right?

this does HELP EVERYONE..

you ruin a servers economy you might as well wipe the server..

it affects everyone..

just as real life economies do..

if there is too much money on the servers then items get inflated

making it so those that did not cheat cannot afford anything..

fixing a dupe and removing the ill gotten gains from the server is always a TOP priority.

if it took them a year of beta and close to 2 week into the launch to fix this simple exploit i'm not sure how you can tell people with a straigth face that they are monitoring it ....

We never saw this dupe in beta.. 9 months tested here and not once was any dupes exposed even on the shady sites..

So, these "millions" of credits are out there somewhere. Umm...haven't seen the GTN prices move on bit over this. For those that think that "too many credits" in a game economy ruins it, I think this pretty much debunks that idea. Game economies are a closed circut and as such are not relevant to the natural laws of an economic system. Those millions are not in circulation they are only potentially in there. IF there were to be circulated then and only then would it have a fleeting impact and then only for the briefestt of periods.

I disagree. A piece of orange gear that was 5K creds three days ago is now selling for 50K creds, VZ server

"The economy is so RUINED it will never be as intended anymore"

Hello,

This game has sufficient money sinks that any inflation will be temporary as long as the source has been addressed. In one month's time, the effect of these credits will be dissipated. It is simply not possible to obtain and distribute enough money in a couple of weeks to ruin an economy forever. Just like a bumper crop harvest, the food is eventually eaten, and the next season sees apples return to usual prices.

I think that the correct response on this issue would be the following:

  1. I would expect exploiters to be temporarily banned. I have a problem with the opinion that somebody should be pertinently banned because of a critical issue that was an oversight on the developers / testers. It's not one person's fault. Temporarily banning players would ensure that the credits will not be spent, laundered (buying lower value items and selling them again), etc.
  2. The customer service reps go through the purchase/sell/credit logs (you have them, right?) and have specialists remove the items / credits / upgrades / gear / recipes / crafting / ANYTHING that was a result of using dirty credits.
  3. Move forward by implementing some "ALARM" ensuring that this type of fast credit gain cannot occur. You can measure income rate per minute very easily. If you get millions of credits in a few minutes, something is clearly wrong, and that can be tracked. I've implemented systems similar to this before.

You might think that somebody should be perma-banned for this, but in reality it is not entirely their own fault. The nature of MMOs is that there should be safeguards against fast-gains as they're usually an indicator of cheating. We could go in to discussions similar to: "You're saying it's my fault I got shot because you left a gun out", but that wouldn't be helpful here, we must deal with it and move on.

I'm sure BioWare will not let this go unhandled, unpunished and unresolved. They clearly know about it since they've patched it now, the next thing to watch for is letting us know what is going on (it'll come soon), and then we can all go back to playing the game we like so much.

Really? Is that why the people looting high level chests were banned?

You can tell the folks that have never played an MMO/experienced economy exploit vs the ones that have in this post. Economy exploits can absolutely ruin a game by destroying the economy. In an MMO the economy is very important and if millions upon millions of credits are allowed to flow into the game due to an exploit this early in the game it can have a very detrimental effect.

I for one am absolutely in favor of BW taking whatever time they need to fix this. If that means rollbacks, so be it.

OK there are a number of ways, limited only by intelligence, that someone with a lot of credits can change the economy.

An example ;

I have lots and lots of credits.

I buy every single auction put on the GTN for X material under a price I determine.

I put them all back on at that pre determined sell price.

I monitor the GTN and continue this.

I have now cornered the market in X

I now repeat for Y

With billions/trillions I can do this with any product I wish.

The rich guy gets richer and everyone else pays inflated prices.

This is just one simple example.

That doesn't work.

I, poor gamer, put x material to sell for... 100 credits.

You, rich boy, buys my x material and all the x material there's on the market. Then you put it a... 200 credits.

Then, i, again, poor guy, put my x material for... 100 credits.

Rich guy buys all x material on the market.

Put x material at 300 credits.

I put it a 100 credits.

And go on and on and on... and the rich guy doesn't get more rich.

Bad example.

The real question is, how badly have your economies been hit? All the prices on my server have remained essentially the same. And probably will. Those who used the exploit should be smart enough to not be obvious with the spending of their credits. If suddenly you see that all of the Ice Gems are being sold by Rich-Guy at a 300% price increase, you know what he's been up to.

actually that does work. since when people buy up all the 100 credit ones they'll be forced to buy his and he makes this money back 3x faster. The only way this wouldn't work is if there a unlimited supply of something that has a higher supply than demand, in which case he wouldn't choose to corner the market on that item in the first place.

You know, at this point the only real way to fix the economy is to remove every single credit in circulation and reimburse players with a level-specific amount of credits for each character they have. For example, give level 20s 50k, level 40s 300k, level 50s 700k, etc.

It is unfair as all hell but it is also the only real solution.

I doubt they can come back from this, damage is done, economy was ruined with the way slicing was, now with this aswell happening for weeks already. Nothing really being rare and easy to get hold of anyway.

Economy was dead before launch, didn't stand a chance.

Hot fix it, permaban the people (who obviously know they are exploiting an unintended game element), and remove the credits from the economy.

Hammer time...and bring it down HARD AND SWIFT.

If the credits are spent, transfered, used or laundered into other things and then sold again, then the cash flow will be semi impossible to trace easily without crazy amount of time put it.

I doubt even half the exploiters will be punished or banned and even then most of them have spare account ready too go with there new credits.

Congrats on having lots of fake money? What will someone do with it...retire? LOL. Sure it might imbalance the in game economy, but I can easily enjoy a game without ever looking at an auction house.

People who play these game to amass virtual fortunes make me LOL. Get back to me when you do it IRL.
