New Smuggler Questions

Hello all:

 

I am new to SWTOR, but experience MMO player, however I have several questions about Smugglers:

  • Apart from Cunning and Endurance, What other stats should I promote with gear?
  • What crafting specialities should I get to favour the Smuggler?
  • What type of gear, as an smuggler that aims to specilize Gunslinger (Weapons, protection, etc.) should I aim for?
  • Apart from missions, how do I get commendations? are there another way to get them?
  • I play in Red Eclipse (EU-PvE) and still in Ord-Mantell, Any hints or tips?

Hi,

 

Below Cunning and Endurance it depends whether you specialise into DPS or healing, DPS tend to favour crit and power, healers crit and alacrity (although most end game healers I know don't rate alacrity as it just burns out their energy/ammo/force quicker). Gunslingers can only DPS but Scoundrels can do either.

 

Any crafting skill is of some benefit to any class, personally I think cybertech, armstech or armormech suit gunslingers although most players believe armstech is the worst of the crafting skills for end game.

 

You'll find you'll drop gear through your missions for any slot, so it's unlikely you'll have much more powerful weapons than your armor. If you have credits or commendations to spend then upgrade your weakest equipment whatever it is.

 

There are no other ways to get planet commendations but there are different type of commendations, daily and Black Hole commendations for end game level 50s and you can find other threads on them. You can also earn fleet commendations which you can use to upgrade your ship or unusual items from the other vendor at fleet.

 

Other hints: the game is relatively simple and easy while levelling, keep your companion geared as much as possible by handing down your cast offs as you improve your gear (although not all will use cunning as you do). Most people prefer customisable gear (orange border) as it can be upgraded relatively easily with planet commendations - keep an eye out for the rarer slots that can be filled such as wrists, belts, hands and feet.

I'm not going to jabber about what I don't know, but I can say this:

 

Armstech is very good for Smugglers. We have the best Armstech companion bonus in the game, with a +5% chance to crit when Corso crafts Armstech items. So, especially if you're a gunslinger (who wants two barrels every two levels), I recommend Armstech/Scavenging/Investigation.

 

Commendations can be gained through missions or, rarely, as random green-quality drops. They're more likely to drop in group content (heroics and so forth). Heroic mission turnins that award commendations can be repeated daily.

when you hit 50, you'll want 30-35% crit chance and 70-75% crit multiplier, once you get that you can just stack cunning and/or power..... On my gunslinger I put cunning in all my augs..... I'm around 40% crit chance and 74% crit multiplier and my cunning is really high... But thats with Black Hole gear...

 

Remember Cunning gives you base damage + crit chance where power just increase your base damage...

 

So IMO, it's best just to use cunning in your augments instead of power...
