Developer Update: Warzone Arenas

Thanks very much for taking the time to respond, and for the informative update. I was a bit cautious about Arenas at first but I'm looking forward to them the more I hear about them.

I have to say that it's a little worrying about the specialisation. A guildie of mine is one of the best Guardian Tanks I know but his current spec is 22/23/1 which would presumably put him in as a DPS. It would be great if people did not have to give up specs that they've decided suit their natural playstyle to conform to the matchmaking system.

His stance might put him into a tanking roll. At least I would think it would.

Are there going to be any measures in place to prevent 'fight-clubbing' in Ranked arenas?

I can guarantee people will form 2 groups and Queue together, leaving if not put together and re-queuing.

As the 'fight-club partner teams' will remain of a similar ranking, the chances of them being put together will only increase as they gain ranks and make the process easier.

The match making system takes the spec into account and locks it down for the duration of the match.

Stances are never looked at and can be changed while ingame. Moreover, some classes dont even have stances like Scoundrel.

I am curious to see how they solved/ will solve this problem.

Can you answer the questions about ranked pls????

He's not gonna bother.

- Higher ups told him not to answer anything about it. Even though he stated he'll answer all questions regarding his blog.

- He hasn't anything in defence.

- He thought we would be happy removing content instead of improving content.

Whatever the reason, he's determined to remove Ranked 8v8 than doing what the community wants. And that's to have two different PVP gamestyles, objective and deathmatch both in competitive PVP.

No, but he does look at his keyboard while he goes through his 1-2-3-4 rotation. ;)

Just kidding, Musco is actually a joy to have on your Arena team, he holds his own. :rak_03:

Tell EricMusco that I will be waiting for him in Outlaw's Den tonight(PoT5 Server) at 11:30PM Eastern.

I challenge him to a 1v1. If he looks at his keyboard, I should easily be able to defeat him.

Or if he prefers the hoth starship graveyard, I will face him there as well.

Hi Devs,

Can you please explain how Warzones will work with no ranked? Will PvP Guilds be able to queue a full group of 8 for normal Warzones? Previously you could only queue a full group for Ranked, but in removing that, will you be opening this up for Standard Warzones.

I see two major problems with both answers.

Firstly: No, you will not allow a group of 8 to queue for normal warzones.

What is the point of PvP guilds practicing, playing and queuing for warzones then, if they cannot run a full ops group? Have you not then completely taken away any incentive for PvPers to participate in Warzones?

Secondly: Yes, you will allow a group of 8 to queue for normal warzones.

Won't this just encourage PvP guilds to stomp all over PUG groups, and essentially see any unguilded players completely dissuaded from playing normal Warzones?

I really like the look of Arenas, however I would greatly appreciate a response to the above, with attention to detail on how you will be mitigating the fallout from removing Ranked Warzones. Hopefully you have a solution to both of the above, because neither scenario is ideal.

Personally I think you should LEAVE Ranked Warzones as a part of the Game, thus allowing 8v8 Ops Groups to continue to queue against each other when and how they please. You can still roll out everything you intend to without causing a significant negative impact on the PvP community at large.

Hey Sammenn and Scriffle,

Alex is not intentionally dodging your question nor are there looming higher ups telling him not to post. The truth is he answered your question in the blog itself:

"We are sad to see it go but the truth is that because of many factors not enough people played them and we didn’t support them well enough, so they are going away for now. Getting eight friends together and hoping another eight people are doing the same at the exact same time AND your two teams were equally matched was a nightmare for the players. It is possible that Ranked 8v8 Warzones will come back at a later time if we can solve some of the problems with them and if the population is there to support them."

We will now be focusing 4v4 Ranked Arenas, but as the blog says that doesn't mean Ranked 8v8 Warzones are off the table forever. But not until we can solve the issues around them.

Just like cross-server pvp was not 'off the table forever'?

Too soon?

Thank you for your response. Is Alex telling EricMusco about my 1v1 challenge in hoth starship graveyard or Outlaw's Den at 11:30PM Eastern?

Any PvPer that looks at his keyboard during an encounter deserves to be punished.

Tell EricMusco that Coffee will be waiting for him in Outlaw's Den and if he decides to battle it out on hoth to send me a PM on the forums.

I've been really curious about the new tier of PvP gear.

Is the new tier something only available for players with "x Rating"? or will it be like the Partisan/Conqueror tiers? Will it have to same expertise as the current gear? Where will the tier fall in relation to the current tiers?

Thank you in advance.
