weapon_x
I've already been on Taris for over an hour using this stupid scanner. Is the part even here anymore? The way this game is developed, I have a distinct lack of faith in the developers, so for all I know, they broke the quest somehow. The excavator needs to have some kind of an arrow to point in the general direction now. Most of the people that want HK already have it, so you don't have all the people pinging away for it anymore, leaving you basically to yourself to find it. NOT. FUN. I've already googled it and the part is not in any of the usual spots. Edited January 1, 2013 by weapon_x
QuintessaSHeera
Sadly, my friend and I were having the same problem. We weren't as interested in HK when everyone else was doing it (and had real life issues that kept us from playing). When things were less hectic for us and we could go find him, the excavation of random parts was taking so long that we just kinda gave up on it. That..and we didn't want to have to run Foundry on Hard. I guess it's just one of those things we'd LIKE, but don't NEED enough to make more than a medium amount of effort. An hour of searching per planet is enough for me personally...
ckoneful
I spent no more than 15 minutes on each planet completely solo. It's already easy enough to find, just use your head.
BradTheImpaler
Yeah I finally got it at last yesterday. The hunt was part of the fun though (except for having to run the blasted Foundry, I guess). It also forced me to start a Republic character (Jedi Consular) to get the part on Coruscant. It can take some time but if you're smart about it you'll find each part before long.
Kalfear
LOL, get a buddy and you find them all in under 10 minutes All you do is scan and move How much easier could it get?

Rorichan
Ummmm... there is a guide on the HK quest out there by Dulfy. With hints and everything on where to find the parts. Doesn't take that long to be honest.
Eurynamous
Why not do it like the rest of us did. I was able to do the whole thing solo, mind you I am in camp/bh and my companion was in full rakata. It's not hard, easier yet with a friend to watch your ***. Mistress_Ivi
Done it on 2 alts on the PTS, with a friend each time. 2nd time doing it... 3 hours looking for it on Kaas - not even kidding. Annoying? Heck yeah. But the first alt, we found all the parts within 10minutes each time. The temple, 2nd scan! I do think some kind of flagging that lasts an hour (you/group can see) would be nice... red for zip, green for close. Nothing uber easy. or the ability to upgrade the freaking thing! Seriously, some of us will pay 100k to upgrade it, since we can't afford the mill to buy the unlock :|
ItchyThePenguin
It's not a matter of being too easy or too hard, it's a matter of being boring and uninteresting. The quest objective could just as well have been "Press you x button 40 million times to receive the parts" which would have been equally uninteresting. It's a shame, because the quest line started off so promising with the theoretika wreckage which was superb. Maybe I'm alone in this, but I actually enjoyed scanning for the components. . . BobaScott
Spent 45 min on Taris by myself the other night - it was really late, no one else was looking. Used dulfy's guide and another two guides I found, methodically searching. Eventually, one by one, three other people randomly show so we are all looking. Scanned all around the spire and never found it after another hour. Perhaps we all managed to miss the very few pixels we needed, but I am convinced something was wrong. TheIronMonkey
I think the conditions have changed a bit. When HK started there were lots of people searching, so it was easy to show up and with a group of searchers find it quick. Now, in most cases, you find yourself alone and it is quite a big area (DK and Hoth mostly). After a while it does get pretty boring. I don't trust the green circle, I think it does not measure the 25 meters right. Would like to know if some people have found it accurate. Even using a pattern, it can take quite a while or a few seconds. Possible changes : - make search cycle quicker - have the scanner give you a direction to search towards, lets say NW of you) - have a few (2, 3) locations spawn at the same time so that you have a better chance to find it. In all, I always found it crude that there are no hints to decipher for this. Is like go look everywhere. To me scavenger hunts should be about deciphering clues to locate something. (forgot to mention I have done the whole thing 6 times already)... Edited February 20, 2013 by TheIronMonkey
nninjacoupe
The quest is just fine. I like the fact that it took time and i didnt complete it in a day. OddballEasyEight
Why should you have any easier a time finding the piece than the rest of us who went around finding it as well? Group up and go look just like everyone else Ok, that was pretty ignorant... He already said it was easier before when everyone was looking for it, but now almost nobody is looking for the parts, meaning you have to spend more time (on average) finding it, so making it a bit easier (not just handing the parts to you, but maby making the area they appear in smaller) would only be fair to those of us who have to solo it now. DuckimusPrime
I spent no more than 15 minutes on each planet completely solo. It's already easy enough to find, just use your head. How do you use your head to find a part that is located in a pretty well random location? And its location changes everytime someone finds it. All Dulfy's guide (and every other one do) is pretty well point out a location where it was found once. Doesn't help at all for a person coming along at a later time. ShmickB
It's not that it is easy or hard, despite some of the chest-thumping by people above. I started the quest last week and can empathize that solo searching is very tedious. I spent 2 hours on Taris by myself before someone else in my guild responded that they needed parts too. Even with 1 extra person the speed of searching is so much greater. Either that or my luck completely changed and stayed good for 3 planets, because we found all the Pub side parts within 15-20 mins on each planet once we teamed up. *Sarcasm about the "luck"thing* I know a lot of us want to be self-reliant but this IS an MMO and the mission DOES say Heroic 2+. I think the point is to get working in teams. I am lucky to be in an active Guild so eventually someone else was bound to respond. Maybe the OP, and others in the same boat who aren't Guilded, should advertise in chat at Fleet for a partner who also wants HK?
TheIronMonkey
IMHO, the initial "everybody has to go get it" rush is over and the trickle of searchers today will be the way it is for a long time to come. Most searchers these days are dedicated, while those not so inclined just purchase it with cartel coins. As somebody stated, some of us are not on very active guilds, so you have to find people as you go. When I am in Hoth every couple of hours I see 1 person asking "anybody for HK". I have gone as far as helping somebody search when I don't even need it (I kept the scanner). It is just boring. It there were clues to decipher the location, or some mental quest, but it is just luck of the draw. I know what them "logical minds" with a plan mean. You start at one end and scan in a pattern. That means you might get lucky on the first 15 secs, or on the first 2 hours, depending on where you started. I don't see the entertainment value there. If I wanted to gamble, I would be at the casino MMO... All I say is study the flow of searchers these days. Maybe reduce the area a bit, or add a couple more spawn points. Doesn't need to be easy, it is just super annoying right now.
