My latest game suggestions...what would I change if I could?

Lets say I took over the helm, time and money was not an issue.

I would make one staffing change (terminate one single person from the development staff that I feel is responsible for the vast majority of the bad design decisions made post F2P launch), try to hire one specific person I have in mind that is perfect to replace that person, shut down the game and relaunch using a new engine. I feel the rest of the team, including the community team is superb.

Almost all of the games problems, IMO, can be traced to the awful engine being used.

A few other notable changes....

Subscribers would be given an additional reward for every month they are subscribed, retroactive. They would have the ability to choose physical rewards or CC. I would also tweak the F2P/Preferred system to make it a bit more appealing, and add a "Veteran" and "Legend" access tier if you have spent at least 750 and 2000 dollars, respectfully.

All flashpoints, heroics and the like would have solo, story, tactical, hard and nightmare modes, and they would all get a pass for the sake of consistency.

Game would be balanced so solo play without a companion would be possible, but would be very challenging. Players would receive a small in combat health bolster to assist when companion is not present. Out of combat health and pool regeneration would be drastically increased to reduce down time.

All Champion level mobs in the game would have the ability to disable companions (chance roll), and Elites would have more temporary companion disable abilities.

Aggro range would be adjusted to drop off rapidly when you overlevel mobs.

Craftable droid and trainable animal companions would be introduced to the game. Also, all crafted pots would level with you similar to healing pots at present.

A mod crafting tier would be added, 194 blue mods, trainable, that would RE to 198 purples.

Personal speeders would receive two more speed tiers, and all speeders would have multiple speed level capability.

All in game cutscenes would get a pass, including all landing and take off sequences.

All character models would be upgraded, and more options would be added to character creator, including body types, height, tattoos, scars, starting gear and weapon. Cybernetic would have droid appearance gear options.

Companion gifts would have casting time drastically reduced, level 7 and 8 gifts would be introduced, and all companions would gain influence from story questing, crafting and all flashpoints/heroics, even if just a standard reward at the end.

Influence would have a toggle to disable it if players wished.

Companion mastery would be implemented, whereby I would have the ability to train companions to master one role. Also, a "sidekick" system would be implemented that would allow more customization of a companion that has reached level 50 influence, allowing the use of individual gear as in the past.

Hooks in Strongholds would be removed, decoration would be free form, along with the ability to change colors and patterns. Priority travel kiosk would be added, as well as a weekly kiosk. All stronghold nameplates will either get a close button or be added to the UI editor.

Personal Cargo and Legacy Storage would receive the ability to unlock 3 more tabs each, and a Legacy bank would be added that allowed all characters in legacy to share a common credit pool.

Alliance storage would be introduced, allowing deep storage (no graphic) and withdrawal for a small fee. Also, alliance strongholds would be treated like Strongholds, with limited decoration ability.

Level sync would be optional, rewards would be disabled entirely for grey mobs.

Starfighter would have PVE and on foot PVP combat/capital ship combat added using generic toons, ala Battlefront 2, and Hangars would become strongholds, allowing decoration and the placement of kiosks and the like. Your ship would be parked in the center.

The current PVE starship combat feature would be rebuilt to allow group play either on board (turret and repair play) and/or multiple player ships in the pipe.

Alliance crates would provide 10 CC for each kit turned in.

Server events would provide CC rewards to encourage participation in lesser utilized features, which would rotate over time.

The game would have a hard mode, where you could toggle a setting that reduces your level by 3 levels at all times. Rewards would be substantially increased with this setting.

Small one and two room strongholds would be introduced that are not part of the current prestige system.

A racing system would be introduced, similar to the boost system used on Ziost for individual task racing. Rankings server wide would be kept, as well as unique prizes offered. Track would change, so there would be at least 5000 different track combinations.

Akiva would be added to the game, for the purpose of providing a place to play Pazaak. I would also add Mustafar and Geonosis to the game set up like Maanan.

Gravestone would be added as a new stronghold like player ship, with the ability to replay key battles in your storyline, repair the ship over time (with visual evidence) and limited decoration ability.

All player starships would be rebuilt so they could be decorated inside and out without breaking quests.

Nar Shadaa nightlife event would become a regular game feature, with rotating rewards.

All heroics for Makeb and Illum would be restored.

All prior animation timings and triggers would be restored. Effects would not fire until animation is finished or as animation is playing. Also, many AoE abilities would be restored to pre 2.0 performance, with longer cooldowns to prevent regular rotation use (with the ability to reduce cooldowns in spec), and almost all stun effects would be removed from PVP.

Every single leveling action will receive a pop up that summarizes the effect of the level increase, which can be disabled using the UI editor.

More colors would be added to the UI....green, red and purple. Colors could be set for each individual character.

Legendary players would be given two in game perks....the ability to set speeder travel as a "phase out, phase in" feature, similar to Makeb, and the ability to summon group members on the same planet/instance to their location.

GSMs would be introduced for other types of reps and certs, and random material/slicing/data crystal cases would be added as more common winnings.

I may add more later, but that is my list for now.

Couldn't you just necro an older thread rather than create a "new" one that absolutely reeks of all the old ones? Think I'll need a red pen for this.

I would also tweak the F2P/Preferred system to make it a bit more appealing, and add a "Veteran" and "Legend" access tier if you have spent at least 750 and 2000 dollars, respectfully.

You'll probably take offense, but the only title springing to mind here is "Entitled".

Game would be balanced so solo play without a companion would be possible, but would be very challenging. Players would receive a small in combat health bolster to assist when companion is not present. Out of combat health and pool regeneration would be drastically increased to reduce down time.

Playing without a companion is the only way to make the game slightly challenging. In fact, most people are telling us to do this if we want a challenge instead of trying to Balance™ the companions. And you want to give people a boost for playing without a companion?

All Champion level mobs in the game would have the ability to disable companions (chance roll), and Elites would have more temporary companion disable abilities.

MORE CC? In THIS game?

Aggro range would be adjusted to drop off rapidly when you overlevel mobs.

Or just sidestep them. It's not that hard. There are pretty few place where you can't just go round the mobs. and if you take away the aggro range (bear in mind that you will easily start overlevelling mobs on your starter planet), then you will remove any threat on any planet for people levelling, even if it is their first time. Why not just remove them altogether? That'll help with immersion.

Craftable droid and trainable animal companions would be introduced to the game. Also, all crafted pots would level with you similar to healing pots at present.

We don't have enough companions? You want more? This might have been a nice thing before KotFE, but people are complaining about levelling influence with more than one companion now.

And if the craftable pots level with us, why not just craft low level ones and not bother trying to level your crafting. What about the other crafts - can Armstech craft a blaster that levels with you? What about Armormech? The levelling is far too easy, let's destroy crafting as well? (Also another immersion point, you don't just pick up a hammer and get to call yourself an Armoursmith).

I'll get to the rest after my coffee (maybe)

A mod crafting tier would be added, 194 blue mods, trainable, that would RE to 198 purples.

You might have missed the Livestream, and I'll give you the benefit of doubt, so I'll quote Eric here -

New Information:

Crafting

•Skill increase to 550

•New Materials

•New craftable Gear and Mods

Personal speeders would receive two more speed tiers, and all speeders would have multiple speed level capability.

It's been mentioned a few times before, but the 110% speed limit is probably about as fast as the Engine can handle. Having thousands of people going faster than this would probably cripple it.

Finally, some things I can get behind (if you take out the level 7 and 8 gifts.) Always wondered why you don't get influence by giving the crew something to do. Kira - "You finally trust me to do something" should mean you add some influence.

Influence would have a toggle to disable it if players wished.

Is that while making companions useless by giving you a boost if you play without them?

Companion mastery would be implemented, whereby I would have the ability to train companions to master one role. Also, a "sidekick" system would be implemented that would allow more customization of a companion that has reached level 50 influence, allowing the use of individual gear as in the past.

Sounds like the companions of old that they just got rid of. What would you do if you levelled up a character to be your "sidekick", only to have them removed one way or another through the KotFE story?

Hooks in Strongholds would be removed, decoration would be free form, along with the ability to change colors and patterns. Priority travel kiosk would be added, as well as a weekly kiosk. All stronghold nameplates will either get a close button or be added to the UI editor.

Yes and no - the hooks are probably tied in to the engine, but we could use some mission kiosks in the strongholds, or at least the Guildships.

Personal Cargo and Legacy Storage would receive the ability to unlock 3 more tabs each, and a Legacy bank would be added that allowed all characters in legacy to share a common credit pool.

I'm totally behind this.

Alliance storage would be introduced, allowing deep storage (no graphic) and withdrawal for a small fee. Also, alliance strongholds would be treated like Strongholds, with limited decoration ability.

Sounds pointless if you already have Legacy storage and, hopefully, a wallet.

Level sync would be optional, rewards would be disabled entirely for grey mobs.

So why go there? You would remove any reward for helping out lower level players/guildmates?

Starfighter would have PVE and on foot PVP combat/capital ship combat added using generic toons, ala Battlefront 2, and Hangars would become strongholds, allowing decoration and the placement of kiosks and the like. Your ship would be parked in the center.

You like your strongholds, don't you? While having Capital Ship fights sounds fun, you mention that it'd be like Battlefront (haven't played it myself, so this is a guess). If it's like Battlefront, why not just play Battlefront? To add this in would create competition for a game they already have, so wouldn't be very likely.

The current PVE starship combat feature would be rebuilt to allow group play either on board (turret and repair play) and/or multiple player ships in the pipe.

Might be good, but I wouldn't play it. The PVE Starship is more of a mini-game, and we already have GSF for multiplayer.

Alliance crates would provide 10 CC for each kit turned in.

Server events would provide CC rewards to encourage participation in lesser utilized features, which would rotate over time.

Translates to "Give me free money". Why would they give away something that they are charging you for to keep the game alive?

The game would have a hard mode, where you could toggle a setting that reduces your level by 3 levels at all times. Rewards would be substantially increased with this setting.

Rewards shouldn't be increased. The challenge is the reward. Maybe add a title if you complete the story on "Hard Mode", but nothing that will make the game easier (more XP will just overlevel you even more, better gear will just make the game easier, nullifying the Hard Mode challenge).

Small one and two room strongholds would be introduced that are not part of the current prestige system.

You REALLY like strongholds.

To be continued....

Akiva would be added to the game, for the purpose of providing a place to play Pazaak. I would also add Mustafar and Geonosis to the game set up like Maanan.

Adding new planets just to play Pazaak? Seems a bit much. Why not just have it in the casino on Nar Shadaa?

Gravestone would be added as a new stronghold like player ship, with the ability to replay key battles in your storyline, repair the ship over time (with visual evidence) and limited decoration ability.

How many Strongholds do you need?

All player starships would be rebuilt so they could be decorated inside and out without breaking quests.

Making your ship a stronghold too?

Nar Shadaa nightlife event would become a regular game feature, with rotating rewards.

It isn't a regular event?

All heroics for Makeb and Illum would be restored.

I can't remember any that are missing, but there are more than enough Heroics. People are complaining about having to redo the old content as it is.

Maybe if we have the Heroics simlar to OPs with a Heroic planet(s) of the week, with each Heroic on that planet giving you one of each alliance crate (4 total), would save people grinding the same ones over and over and getting tired of them.

"Bring back the old tracer missile effect" and "Nerf sorc in PvP" - Just add it to the million other posts about it.

Every single leveling action will receive a pop up that summarizes the effect of the level increase, which can be disabled using the UI editor.

This might help people when they are levelling up, teach them their class better. Wouldn't be much use though, especially when you can just switch trees. Would you get retroactive popups telling you about every change that would have happened if you had been in that tree all along? That would be toggled off right away.

More colors would be added to the UI....green, red and purple. Colors could be set for each individual character.

Yes, I'm in for this. We need more customisations for the UI colours.

Legendary players would be given two in game perks....the ability to set speeder travel as a "phase out, phase in" feature, similar to Makeb, and the ability to summon group members on the same planet/instance to their location.

Use your fast travel - pretty sure there's a travel point next to every speeder (except Nem'ro's palace for some reason). Get a guild with a ship, you can summon. No legendary status needed. Done.

GSMs would be introduced for other types of reps and certs, and random material/slicing/data crystal cases would be added as more common winnings.

Slot machines? Everyone loves a good RNG. TBH it's about the only credit sink in the game, but I don't know how many people would stand by it for days on end just to get stuff you could probably buy on the GTN for less.

Phew, I need more coffee.

My theory is that engine limitations aren't the reason. I think the real reason is that faster mounts would allow us to jump some of those tantalisingly close gaps, canyon tops, and so on that we currently fall into if we try. (The Ziost hotrod is the primary clue - it is able to clear huge distances. While that may be a special property of that machine, it got me to thinking about jumping on speeders, and I realised that the distance covered in a jump is a function of speed - the faster you go, the further you jump, and there are places where a +110% speeder gets you *almost* across the gap, so a +120% or maybe +130% would do it.)

  • 1 month later...

It's been mentioned a few times before, but the 110% speed limit is probably about as fast as the Engine can handle. Having thousands of people going faster than this would probably cripple it.

If the engine of an MMO that came out in what....2012? can't handle faster than 110% travel speed then it probably needs to be replaced. Just saying, when I much older game like WoW has speeds up to 300% you should probably be able to compete or at the very least make the environment interesting and engaging enough that trying to cross vast distances isn't so tedious.

Because the new Battlefront is a joke when compared to the old Battlefront and has done away with ship to ship combat like he's talking about. It's now just a reskinned Battlefield game.

Honestly, I'd rather them just scrap this iteration of the game and rebuild it on a better engine and with a less.....crap look. It would not bother me if they made it look like the later Clone Wars show or Rebels if they were hell bent on not having "realistic" graphics. But there are things that need to be addressed in the presentation of the game that I feel really hinder it's appeal.

Movements while in combat are pretty bad, most planets look awful when you go to land on them, armor has gotten better as the newer stuff doesn't look as though someone just took a tiny image in paint and increased it's size. Some of the voice acting should be redressed, some of the things my Sith Warrior says just sounds forced and monotone like they were being forced to read the back of a movie case. Speaking of classes, companions need to be revisited and given a small tune up. At the moment I choose my companions based on which one says the least stupid things in combat which means I usually go with Treek or the Nexu. Bioware is usually pretty good about making me like or dislike the side-characters but in this I just don't and when I have to take one it usually results in a groan and heavy sigh.

I have no feelings about the mechanics per se as I play by myself and everything works well enough for me to get my enjoyment out of the game. My main issues are all with the appearance and presentation of things which I feel they gave little or no credence to. I've played a lot of MMOs and this is the only one that I've liked but had serious issues with in a way that makes it sort of love/hate.

Sorry to reborn the thread xP
