West/east coasts are respective to America. The Harbinger is a pretty good North American PVE server. It has a healthy population. Welcome aboard!

East Coast indirectly refers to the eastern timezones (EDT, ADT, NDT, BRT) of the american continents (i.e. cities like Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec, Halifax, Atlanta, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, Miami, Havana, Santiago, Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro, etc.). Well, that's what I always thought. If I'm wrong, please someone correct me.

If you're looking for a nice PvE East Coast server, I'd suggest to you Jedi Covenant. So many players (hundreds) rerolled there over the last month and a lot of them created new guilds that you could join. I hope we'll see you soon in Jedi Covenant.

I'm pretty sure this is exactly right. And I'd second the suggestion of Jedi Covenant. I'm one of the hundreds. ;)

Hi new player! Welcome to Star Wars, The Old Republic.

Your first choice as a player is which server type you want. You have a choice between PvP, PvE, RP, and RP-PvP. I suggest googling those terms to determine which one is best for you. This website has a pretty good overview, and it's also posted below.

Then you have to pick which server. In the coming weeks there may be some misinformation out there about which server is best. People are understandably desperate to recruit new players for their own servers.

If having a large population is important to you, the best place to see server population trends is http://www.torstatus.net. Look for the servers with the highest phi value.

US http://www.torstatus.net/shards/us/stats

Europe http://www.torstatus.net/shards/eu/stats

APAC http://www.torstatus.net/shards/apac/stats

Having said that, "wars do not make one great" and population isn't the only thing that's important. You probably also want to get an idea of what the social atmosphere on the server is like, or the PvP warzones, or the raiding progression.

1. Check out posts for that server in the SWTOR forums. Do the people that are posting seem like people you want to play with? Are there events going on that you'd like to go to?

http://www.swtor.com/community/forumdisplay.php?f=309

2. Google the server name and see if there are external forums for that server. These are forums that aren't moderated by the folks at SWTOR. If you're interested in RP servers, definitely check out http://www.swtor-rp.com

3. Find the social media outlets for that server. (Facebook, twitter, you tube). See if they're active and what's going on.

4. Get an idea of what guilds are like on that server. Even if you aren't interested in joining a guild, they are part of the social climate. (http://www.tortools.com/quiz and google are your best bets)

At this point, you may consider looking at everything skeptically. There has been a hint that there will be some sort of server consolidation in the future, and people are going somewhat buggy about it.

Good luck, and may the Force be with you!

Paige
