What happened to crafted gear being BiS?

Remember when they announced how crafting would work in 1.2 and that crafted gear would be BiS? Now one patch later it looks like BW is doing a complete 180. Why its BW reneging on crafted gear being BiS?

Crafted gear is BiS in that you get a shell with 4 sockets. End-game gear has 3. You extract the mods from your Campaign gear and put them into crit-crafted armor and add an augment for it to be BiS.

You can R/E campaign gear as well and learn those patterns... then craft it til you get an augment slot and that'd be BiS.. Not entirely sure but I think the ones crafted like that are BoE so you could sell them as well.

That only applies to belts and bracers. The set pieces (helm, chest, gloves, boots, pants) you can only learn to make the shell (no mods, just appearance), but they still cost grade 8 blue and purple mats so I don't see anyone trying to crit craft those. The belt and bracers though you are right. They can be crit crafted to have augment slots and are BoE. They are currently the only way to get augment slots on belts bracers for non-Synthweavers/Armormechs.

Because you have selective hearing/reading? The entire quote was something to the effect that "yes, crit crafted orange equipment will be BiS in 1.2, however we will shortly thereafter (think they may have actually specified 1.3) be adding the ability to add augment slots to any item, however this will be done in such a way as to not devalue crafters.

 

Looks like that's what we got/are getting.

 

'Course, crafted gear is *still* BiS. Just not neccessarily orange critted gear. You still need the crafted augment kit to make your item BiS. And unlike the orange gear, the augment kit *is* tiered. And it takes about twice as many crafts (on average) to create an augmented item as it does to make a crit crafted orange.

 

Tiering, more crafts, more expensive mats, etc. = more profits. This seems likely to be BETTER for crafters than simply crit-crafting orange stuff.
