So, instead of constantly switching to my 2nd primary on my Fighter, I thought I would swap the guns....but seems you cannot do that.....or is there a trick to it?

You can do it you just need a third gun.

 

Swap the heavy gun with something else, change your blaster for the heavy gun. Then put the blaster in the second slot.

 

And done! You now have the heavy blaster as default
