Developer Update: Heroic Space Missions

Space missions get a lot of hate on the forums but there's actually a surprising number of players who enjoy them, and play them often. Assuming no one likes something just because you don't is pretty short-sighted.

 

I dunno.

 

I used to do them a LOT, there was never many others doing them at the time.

Are there any plans to offer a more tie fight style flight sim to the game.

 

By this I don't just mean 3d space which should have been in the moment space was discussed. But also quests and follow on missions where having completed a b and c it comes back in tour 5 or so and with cool effects such as joining the secret order of the emporer.

 

A game that came out in 1994 shows what could be done in an MMO today. And this would add much to the options once you hit level 50.

There is nothing "heroic" about any of the current space missions. Same will be said about the new ones. At the best, so-called space combat in this game is nothing more then a pretty arcade shooter. Might as well be "Space Aliens" or some other type of arcade game. Probably about the only thing about this game that really disappoints me is the current (and future) space game.

Why continue to keep the same rail space mini-games most players hate?

 

I'm sure BioWare has heard/ seen the many comments against the way space is now. Yet instead of spending time working to change it to a free roam, dog fighting pvp space where players actually control their ships, they're now adding more of the same type missions. Then heroic space missions where you need new ship items just to compete and their prices are ridiculously high.

 

At this point and time BioWare is desperate just to keep the small current amount of players they have and instead of trying to lure more players in, they continue on their same path.

 

Makes little or no sense whatsoever.

I was fairly satisfied to read that, too. Anything more innovative than what we currently have will be BETTER than what we have. For now, my hunger is abated.

No you didn't mention the proton torpedo hits. Did we mention that no one has proton torpedoes because they've been broken.....well since release?

 

I don't mind space as it is in TOR, never did, but hell when I read that proton torpedoes would likely be required for these missions I just got scared.

 

I do hope that they fixed them because the way they worked made them completely useless.

How accurate is this information?

For me I can wait for a full JTL if I know for a fact they are indeed working on a swtor version of it, but what drives me insane is lack of information. Say a Developer comes on and says here we have some space heroics for our current space rail shooter, but we are still very much working on a complete overhaul of the space setup. My posts would hold a entirely different tone. From one of anger to one of Ok well they are still working on a JTL version of swtor, so ill just have to be patience. Lack of word on this subject is just not cool, and frustrating.

I loved space missiosn at the beginning but realized they were mostly for immersion. They worked well in that respect but it was something I didn't want to repeat over and over and over. I don't do them at all on my alts because they're not very practicle in it's current state. Anything to add mroe interaction and replay value would be nice.

What vastness?? What floating?? That vastness consits of 4 different locations and that floating is driving on rails. Please stop trying to sell lead as gold. Make a real space combat or just let it be and fix the bugs. My companions lightsaber is still sticking through her body when it is holstered, Taxi disappears in mid flight,

 

Give us more mini content. Nar Shadaa has casinos with no purpose, all the slot machines with no use. Put in mini games. Then you have chairs, stools, benches everywhere but you cant sit on them?? Give us pod racing. So many things that could make this game better and all you guys give us is some polished old content.

 

Are the devs really lack that much imagination?

I absolutely hate them... and i do them over and over and over again, because they are easy XP and easy money. And some of those pilot outfits are cool, so i have to do a ton of missions for those...

 

I know that Biowares metrics are showing them that players "like" the missions since they are playing them alot, but most are like me, using it for cheap xp and credits but dont really like doing them...

 

I find them a mindless act of repetition and endless frustration since i cannot choose where to fly...

Unfortunately all that means is: something is coming in 2014..... maybe.

 

And nothing else. :(

 

It could be co-op on-the-rails, it could be some sort of guild ship combat, it could be JTL........ or it could be none of those things.

I've pretty much completely given up on them now, but like you I did a lot of them whilst actively hating them.

 

I didn't mind them intially, but the way they tied them into a GRIND really got to me.

 

Although it would be better if there was score system........... but frankly it would be better still if so many didn't just BOT them forcing Bioware EA to nerf them because of it. :mad:

More hideously overpriced gear to grind another couple of missions of rail shooting repetitively.

 

Be still my beating heart! \sarcasm.

 

I play the space missions whilst levelling and even I find this boring.

 

Also as other people have said your new favourite feature is an...ammo counter seriously? An ammo counter that's the best you could do.

Were going off the rails eventually and will have a proper Space game/. You will have to watch the recorded live stream from the devs to hear it. The devs stated it would be a while though. Can I guesstimate next fall of 2013?

You can guess but chances are you are wrong, "soon" means 6-9 months minimum, the kind of words they are using to describe the timeframe I would say 2 years.

I'm always astonished at how obtinately they refuse to make a decent space game. It doesn't have to be a full-on space sim, but we need to be free to go where we want. Space should be every bit as developed as planet surfaces. When I played Galaxies, I enjoyed just flying around the space zones, exploring, parking by some asteroids and looking out the windows of my Y-8, or what have you.

 

I mean, the best selling Star Wars game of all time was a flight sim (Tie Fighter, if you're wondering).

 

You can't make a Star Wars game without the STARS.
