Lokun
My question is for anyone that has leveled in the shield specialist tree. I was just curious about how much damage can you do in the shield spec. I hate to compare it to WOW but I always rolled a PVE tank and when I did play the occasional PVP match-up I ended up doing more damage than half the team. I know that it's often dependent on gear, but has anyone tried this? Or should I just be on the safe side and pour my points into tactics/assault or even a hybrid build? Aaoogaa
Full shieldspec is amazing (31/8/2). Once you hit 50 you either have access to DPS oriented PVP gear or tanking PVP gear. Yojack's semi hybrid build gives up to much survivability to make the PVP tank gear effective and if you wore the DPS PVP gear your survivabiliy would suck even more compared to the increased DPS output. All to have gut which for shield spec is a sub par ability.

You don't need the dot for HIB due to the dot applied with stock strike.

Your post for and againt gut is confusing to me.

Simple math is your friend here. She will help you with your confusion. Allow me to show you. Gut = 15 second dot with no CD and 2 ammo cost Stock strike fully talented = 9 second dot with 9 second CD and 2 ammo cost Global cool down = 1.5 seconds This math therefore shows us that I can gut 6 people in the time it takes me to stock strike 2 and prevent them from capping for an additional 6 seconds. Conclusion: Gut is far from sub par when you want to prevent a node cap

I'd sooner live an extra 15 seconds and stop THOSE cap attempts as opposed to gutting someone and dying, allowing their teammates to cap. Survivability > Gut anyday. The discussion I was having was in regards to Gut being sub par in a pvp setting. Not in a Gut vs Survivability setting. Now, to your post... Gut is not our only dot. It's just our best one. You can take every single survivability talent in the shield tree and still get Gut. All the shield chances, all the shield chances with ammo regen, absorption, DR, defense, debuffs to enemy damage and hit chance. Every last one of them. So, Gut vs Survivability is not a discussion that needs to be had. Edited December 15, 2011 by squoke
