Welcome to the eleventh match in the first round of The BattleZone! Here we pit thirty-two of history's greatest Jedi and Sith against each other in a tournament of epic proportions.

Our previous match saw Darth Malgus barely overcome Obi-Wan Kenobi in a battle that destroyed the entire East Wing of the Senate Building.

Our next match pits the deceptive Lord of Betrayal against the mighty Sith'ari in a terrible battle within the Throne Room of Onderon's Royal Palace.

Battlefield: Iziz Royal Palace

Character Bio:

Darth Traya: (This bio assumes that Darth Traya was once known as Arren Kae)

The former Jedi Historian Arren Kae fell to the dark side of the Force after finding a Sith Academy on the former Sith world of Malachor V. There she learned of the Insidious Force theory, a belief that the Force was an insidious entity that threw countless lives away in attempts to preserve a balance within itself.

After learning the full scope of the dark side, the newly christened Darth Traya went out in search of Wounds in the Force in an attempt to use them to put an end to the Force's influence. She would find two powerful individuals to unwittingly aid her. The first was former servant of Exar Kun Darth Sion, and the lost Jedi who would be known as Darth Nihilus.

Together they formed the Sith Triumvirate, a faction of Sith reborn from the ashes of Darth Revan's Sith Empire. But their alliance of hatred was fragile. In time, Traya's students turned on her, casting her out and taking command of the Triumvirate.

Forced into exile, Darth Traya adopted the alias of Kriea, and went in search of one who could facilitate her revenge. She came across another exile, a former Jedi named Meetra Surik. The two formed a close bond, but they were thrust into the center of galactic events.

The two exiles traveled the galaxy, the former Sith Lord manipulating the young Jedi over time as they worked to stop the Sith.

Through her manipulations the Dark Wars came to a head at Telos IV. Kreia's former student Darth Nihilus had been led into a trap, and he was cut down by Meetra Surik while Kreia had reclaimed the mantle of Dark Lord of the Sith, and awaited Surik at the heart of Malachor V.

In one final battle, Darth Traya was defeated by her greatest student. Before her life ended, Darth Traya told Surik of future events, predicting the fall of the Jedi Order and the Republic itself.

Darth Bane:

Once a lowly miner, the Sith Lord who would institute the Rule of Two started as a simple student in the Korriban Academy of the Brotherhood of Darkness. Bane excelled as a student, surpassing every other student in a very short time. His progress brought about the rumors that he was possibly the Sith'ari, a prophesized perfect being.

Darth Bane eventually discovered the Thought Bomb ritual, and tricked the remaining members of the Brotherhood of Darkness on Ruusan to use it. As Bane escaped, the Sith were caught in the blast and their spirits were imprisoned within the Thought Bomb.

Bane then began the Rule of Two, an Order of Sith Lords that would grow stronger with each generation, eventually culminating in one final, impossibly powerful Sith Lord that would destroy the Republic and the Jedi Order.

He began the Rule of Two with Darth Zannah, a promising disciple. Years harsh training and nurturing of her natural ability for Sith Sorcery culminated in their final battle on Ambria. In accordance with the Rule of Two, Darth Zannah bested Darth Bane through her strength in Sith Sorcery.

Lightsaber skill:

Darth Traya:

Darth Traya was well-versed in lightsaber combat, displaying a well-rounded knowledge of each lightsaber form. She displayed skill in Shii-Cho, Makashi, and Soresu. She was also capable of using the Force to wield three lightsabers telekinetically.

She was also a proponent of the rare form of Trakata.

Darth Bane: (Henceforth, this analysis assumes that Darth Bane is as he is a short time prior to his death)

While a student at the Korriban Academy, Darth Bane earned special instruction from Blademaster Kas'im, spending countless hours honing his skills in lightsaber combat. When Darth Bane was encased in his orbalisk armor, he adopted an all-out aggressive style of full Djem So mastery.

When he was no longer afforded the protection of his orbalisk armor, his style was radically changed. Darth Bane still favored an aggressive assault, but he incorporated defensive maneuvers and feints. His style was unpredictable and complex, incorporating Juyo, Djem So, and Soresu into his fighting style.

Darth Bane is also an excellent unarmed fighter and brawler.

Edge: While we can say that Darth Traya has a trick up her sleeve, she is no warrior. Her skills in lightsaber combat are not great. Darth Bane has mastered lightsaber combat to a far greater degree than Traya has.

However, Traya does have a broad knowledge of the specific natures of each lightsaber form. But this is unlikely to really aid her in a pitched duel between the two. Darth Bane gets the edge.

Physicality:

Darth Traya:

At the time of her death, Traya was over fifty years old. The detriments of age have taken their toll on her body. However, her age is has not really had an affect on her power in the Force.

Darth Bane:

Near the time of his death, Darth Bane was nearly fifty years old. However, age had no real physical consequences for the Sith Lord. He was very strong and muscular. Despite his size, Darth Bane was fast and agile.

Darth Bane also possessed a very high tolerance to pain. When equipped in his orbalisk armor, this pain was used to fuel his rage and power.

Edge: The edge should be fairly obvious here. Traya has been affected by her age far more than Bane has. Bane remains in excellent physical condition. He's strong and agile, while Traya remains an old woman, reinforcing the fact that she is not a warrior. Bane gets the physical edge.

Mentality:

Darth Traya:

Darth Traya was a natural manipulator. The Dark Wars became her own personal game of dejarik. Whole battles were the product of her manipulations. Many men and women were manipulated by her, becoming pieces in a game that would end with her own death.

Traya manipulated all those she encountered, using them as tools in her own game. Each move was calculated, its intended effect always occurring.

However, Traya was a very hateful woman. Both the Sith and the Jedi were objects of her hate. Even the Force itself became something for her to hate. Those who relied on the Force were held in contempt, and objects of her condemnation. Her hate even extended to droids.

Traya also adhered to the some of the basic principles of the Sith. Survival of the fittest and standing on one's own two feet were heavily focused upon by the Sith Lord. However, Traya did not condone random acts of violence.

Darth Bane:

Darth Bane was a devout believer in the Sith ways of rule of the strong. He believed equality among Sith to be a lie, and that the weak held the truly strong back. This belief made Bane see Lord Kaan's Brotherhood with disdain, seeing the Sith as fools.

Darth Bane was unquestionably adhered to the philosophy of the Rule of Two. He fully believed that the apprentice should strike down the master in single combat. When he believed Zannah was incapable of doing this, he sought the secret of immortality, for he knew that he may not live to see the end of the Jedi. His trek for immortality was a failsafe in the event that Darth Zannah was incapable of securing the mantle of Dark Lord of the Sith.

Darth Bane saw honor and glory as a fool's prize, and he saw an honorable death as something completely meaningless. He also did not believe in merciless slaughter without provocation, seeing such a thing as barbarous. However, he was more than willing to kill when he had to, or wanted to.

Edge: Even though Traya is an excellent manipulator, it is unlikely that she will be able to manipulate Bane in this contest. Bearing that in mind, they are both willing to kill when necessary. An edge cannot be given to either combatant in this instance.

Force Powers:

Darth Traya:

Darth Traya studied many of the most dangerous abilities in the dark side, and mastered many of them to the fullest of her abilities. She was a practitioner of the powerful Force Drain. She mastered this ability to such an extent that she could utterly destroy the final three members of the Jedi Council. The masters were left as absences in the Force.

She was capable of using Force lightning, Force Choke, and Force Scream, as well as a host of other more passive abilities.

Darth Traya displayed a mastery of Dark Healing to the point that she could revive others from near death. Her most prominent display of this ability was to kill a dozen Sith Assassins instantly.

Darth Traya also displayed a high-level mastery in Farsight and Shatterpoint. Through these abilities, Darth Traya was able to see the end of the Jedi Order and the Republic several millenia later.

Darth Traya could also use the Force to render herself invisible, and conceal her presence in the Force.

She was also a very powerful telepath, capable of communicating with others lightyears away. She could also influence the minds of others to forget her existence.

Darth Bane:

A dark side prodigy, Darth Bane quickly mastered the many abilities of the dark side. As a student, he was able to summon a weaker version of the deadly Force Maelstrom. As he grew in power, single bursts of his Force lightning could kill instantly, and leave the bodies charred.

Darth Bane could also summon incredibly powerful Force Waves. These waves could utterly destroy anything in their path. Building collapsed, and bodies were nearly annihilated.

Darth Bane could feed on his pain, increasing his fury and power above the norm. He could also feed on the pain of others to further increase his power and abilities.

Darth Bane was also capable of enhancing his speed with the Force to the point that he could deflect torrents of rain with his lightsaber to keep himself dry.

He possessed the ancient scrolls, texts and holocrons of several long-dead Sith Lords, and studied their contents at his leisure. He learned the thought bomb ritual, essence transfer ritual, and how to create his own holocron.

Edge: A difficult category to call. Darth Traya has displayed a high-level mastery and knowledge of the dark side, but Darth Bane has as well. Darth Bane has shown incredible raw power with Force lightning and Force Wave, yet Traya has shown similar power in the more advanced areas of the Force. Because of this, Darth Traya gets a slight edge through her knowledge and ability in the esoteric.

Thoughts: I should probably make a general rule like 'no insta-kill/insta-win abilities' like Vitiate's mind control or Traya's Force Drain. This was one of the reasons Nihilus was excluded as he can insta-kill practically anything.

Who will win? Who is truly superior?

When did she wield a double-blade with one hand?

During her travels with the exile, she wielded a dual blade, according to 2-3 separate canon sources (no conflictions either)

A green one, to be precise.

Edit: She was also proficient in Trakata, something to note in the bio aswell.

OK what have we got here, a chump? Good good. Jk jk. :D

I'd like to think that Traya is the favourite to win, and I can see her winning simply by being better. So I'll see what the opposition has to say and make counter-arguments when necessary.

Well, I think we can all agree that Bane is the better duelist, but Traya has a few tricks up her sleeve.

So really, it just comes down to how the lightsaber skill comes into play, as this could very well be a purely Force-based contest.

Upon realizing that Bane wields Djem So, Traya will ensure he is not in a position to engage her. Though if she is she can fall back on Soresu.

I see this fight panning out in a similar manner to the Duel on Ambria - accept Traya will do better. :D

Well, the battle takes place in the Iziz Palace Throne Room, so there are pillars and such for ducking behind.

We'll find out what happens once the debate gets underway.

This is a tough battle. However, Traya has no way to fight bane using a lightsaber. Bane has shown time and time again that dual bladed or single bladed lightsabers have no effect against him. Soresu wouldn't be much of a help, as bane is well versed in it and could beat Zannah, who was a master of Soresu. I think bane could overpower Traya simply because of his physical strength (btw are we considering Traya has only one hand or both?)

Traya's shatterpoint certainly comes into question, but due to the unpredictable nature of Bane's form its unlikely that she could use it effectively against him (Does anyone know to what extent Traya mastered shatterpoint?)

If force drain is out of the question, then I'm not sure how Traya will win. Bane is very powerful, his lightning able to leave bodies as charred husks, and he has shown the ability to collapse entire buildings.

Honestly, Traya is powerful, but she is no combat expert compared to Bane. I doubt she would be able to escape engaging in a lightsaber duel, and even if she does, Bane is more than capable to use force attacks against her.

I largly agree with omega on this one. I think it comes down the physical and combat capabilities of the 2. While Traya may be more powerful in the force and can use that to her advantage I do not believe bane will let it come to that and he is more then powerful enough to defend himself against force attacks and act in kind, she may hold him off for a bit but with his affinity for force speed and his general force power in general I think he is just powerful enough to close the gap and force a saber fight, one in which Traya will hold against but not long enough to truly make a difference my money is on Bane.

Force drain out of the question? Force drain is not out of the question. Force drain is very much on the cards.

Traya mastered shatterpoint to an exceptional degree, allowing her able to see 'fractures' in far reaching events. I expect she'll be able to pinpoint fractures in Bane's fighting style which would give her the opportunity she needs to break any lightsaber engagement she may get caught in.

It will also allow her to dampen any advantage Bane's unpredictable fighting style might present and she will able to quickly calculate the nature of his style and adjusting tactics accordingly.

That said I don't see Traya getting caught in a lightsaber engagement long enough to be disarmed or defeated, a well placed Force-based attack will break any such engagement.

And concerning Bane's Force powers, his Force lightning can be caught with a lightsaber, and his Force wave, while potent, is no match for Traya's wide range of esoteric abilities.

How will Bane fare against an opponent who can drain his Force energy, render herself invisible, heal herself from mortal injuries, perceive any and all his weaknesses and attack him with multiple lightsabers from all angles?

Badly.
