Hallo! My name's Cypher from the Jung Ma server, and I'm a web designer from Canada (eh?).

 

I'm looking to make a site to catalogue the visual looks of TOR's moddable equipment, relying on community submissions of images and items.

 

This is my progress, questions suggestions and comments thread. The site is currently accessible - but not finished! Here's where I'm looking to the SWTOR Community to throw in their two cents into this site. It's a weekend project being worked on by one person - but it's growing! Even just a post here saying you took a look makes me smile.

Hey guys. I made a thread about the "Containing Malicious software" thing and Dulfy said that the site is fine but the ads on the site where causing the issues. She has brought the issue to google's attention to get it unflagged. Just so you know.

 

Well this is interesting. I think I'm still going to keep working on this - from looking around, there was quite a few features the Dulfy site was missing that I'm trying to add - things like belts and bracers, all the new types of armour that are coming out, and the older orange armour from heroics and class quests.

I can't wait. One of the things I've wanted is a fashion site so it will be easier to choose what my toons are wearing. I was thinking of making one myself. But hey, I'll submit stuff if you get yours up and running.

Hehe, sweet. I've had a lot of people who are interested in submitting - I think it will be ready for private submissions within the next two weeks.

I've now got a basic visual display of outfits up, and got a thumbnail upload working.

Next step is cleaning up the visual display, then creating the galleries to go with them.

I've now got the visual display of outfits done (aka you can add them with the form.. and other people can see them on the website now).

 

Next step will be adding the galleries to the outfits.. I plan on adding two: one gallery showing the default items, one for colour-matched outfits players have made with pieces from the set.

So.. out of all the suggestions I've gotten so far, the one people have liked the most is the random name I had for testing XD

 

The site will be called "swtorista". Domain purchased and all.

I can't wait for this. I adore being able to pick and choose pieces to go into a full outfit and it's a sad thing that TOR-fashion hasn't been touched in months. I've always wanted to submit to it but it seems to be something of a lost cause now. I will for sure be submitting to yours once it's up. Can't wait for it, the site looks amazing so far from all the previews!

I'm assuming you must not have a host yet, because it should come to a host landing page and say something like "There is nothing here" with the hosts graphic on the page. However, it is showing as literally a blank page. As in, my google chrome is saying that it doesn't exist.

Yup, that's what you should be seeing. I've got a host, I just have to.. "hook it up" to the domain. I'm being lazy instead. I'll get a landing page up soon =)

 

Thanks for the excitement about this guys ^^ Makes me want to work on it.

 

Next step is to do some cleaning up of the submission forms (there's 4 different ones!) for better user experience and cleaning up the individual outfit display pages (for example if a field is blank not having it show up, and not having commas show up at the end of a list XD).

After that is make a better homepage... and then it will be ready for public viewing and hosting!

I'm getting excited about this. I was never a fan of how Tor-Fashion was just kinda all jumbled together and you had to just scroll through the mass of images and names hoping to find something interesting. (also praying it was for your faction or class) Having it all organized and searchable as you've shown us is a marvelous idea and I would be more than happy to submit as many sets as I can! I'm going to sub to this thread so I can keep an eye on this project and help whenever possible!

Just read a little bit but yeah, I'm one to say I can't wait to see this ready and working.

Like I originally said, major props to tor-fashion for existing at all.. but dannnnngggg filters are awesome. You'll be able to filter by every single option listed on the original post (see the first page form screenshot for a more visual idea).

I think I'll be setting up a thread in the next week or so so people can start submitting pics like you just did. At the moment I can't share the fancy form I use to put info into the database because it isn't very secure (aka you could add in a set called "***** *** ********'s Set of *****" with a 6MB image of a donkey attached) - but I could start collecting info/sets from you guys and start putting them in myself here and there.

Swtorista.com now has a landing page. Granted, it's just the test data that me and a guild member have been putting in for fun (aka Rev's Super Pants), but you're welcome to poke around!

 

Still working on cleaning up the data, last night I hustled the files over to the proper domain and worked on a logo. I also got Lightbox a workin' for the two gallery types.

 

The logo is a gear (representing customization) and part of the Republic symbol w/ purple to represent the Empire side of things (red's not my thing!). If you're curious about the design, I uploaded my messy logo sheet with a handful of variations: http://swtorista.com/swtorista.pdf

May I suggest making individual pieces searchable as well? It's great to have a full set, but honestly the full sets usually aren't that easy to get. Plus, allowing individual pieces to be searchable means that the person can select the pieces for how their toon looks. As well, add where to find/how to get the individual items, and how much they cost.

The way I figured it, it would be easier to set up the database and searches based on outifts rather than individual pieces. It would also mean a lot less maintenance.

 

For most sets, the how-to get each piece is exactly the same, and described in the "category" field. If individual pieces have seperate instructions, there's a special description field.

 

For the basic image uploads of the outfits, it would be nice to have individual pictures of each piece without the full set.

 

Another thing to help look for individual pieces will be the "item slot available" filter.. for example, you can show all outfits that include a helmet, or all that have a belt.

 

You can also submit unique items (like the Nihilus Mask) by themselves (it's still an outfit.. just an outfit with one item).
