Space Mission Guide

Just a correction the statement about comm relays and the bridge:

"The Comm Relay is on the bottom of the enemy station on the station assault missions and is always a bonus objective."

Is not actually true. It is only a bonus objective the first time you destroy it in a specific mission each day. If you re-run a mission on the same day and destroy it each run, the first run will give you the standard xp for blowing it up (500xp) as well as bonus exp and credits (around 3k) but any subsequent times you destroy it you just get the 500xp and no bonus objective credit.

You can get the bonus exp once per mission per day and that's it, sadly.

Since it takes 4 days if doing all space dailes at 50 it better be worth something(altough I doubt it).

You can get them much faster since there are some of the higher end quests that give multiple fleet commendations just for completing the mission even after you've done the daily. You can grind them out for "free" credits and legacy exp as much as you want while building up a large collection of fleet commendations.

5 commendation for 10 min mision? Hardly fun. But yes, if you're so obsessed, you could farm one per day probably.

how do I repair my ship and get more missiles?

During a mission there is no way to "reload" missiles or repair damage to your ship (Your shields will regenerate if you stop firing, but not your hull damage). To get more missiles you have to get the higher tier missile bay items for your ship (and you can get the better tier armor for your ship to be able to take more damage).

whenever i leave a space combat mission, by winning or losing, and i go to my next one, my armor is still damaged

im asking how to repair this damage

Report bug. Or you might want to mess around with graphic settings, because it's only thing you have avaible that could affect game performance. Or you might want to switch your armoring on ship, now that I think about it. Would makle sense if you have grade 2.

For me sometimes if I've finished last mission with damaged armor, at the begining of new one companion will espess his fear of ship exploding, so I'm guessing thi is when armor gets repaired, from technical point of view.

Most of the missions are between 4 and 7 minutes, but yeah...if you aren't mental for the space missions it would be painful :)

But last one that gives 5 commendations is 8 min + something, + loading times gets close, and yet I think it's most efficient one for farming(unless you have trouble with it :p)

That shouldn't be happening, every time I complete a mission my armor, shields and missiles are always fully reset when I enter the next mission.

*nod* I have a spreadsheet somewhere of the credits & xp & commendations / minute for each mission. I leveled my bounty hunter primarily just farming space missions :D (yes, I am slightly "off")

This is based on my own observations, but anyone with a low-end video card will have a very hard time completing the last 3-4 missions. If this is the case, you can try getting the 5 epic crafted upgrades (shameless plug for Cybertech :p) and buying all the trinkets from the commendation vendor. They will make things somewhat easier, but you'll still have to time your cooldowns and work a lot harder than someone with a good video card.

I updated my video card the other day and discovered that one of the huge perks of having even a medium-range, fairly current video card is that you can cheese space missions. I'd thought I just sucked at targeting things fast enough or avoiding damage, but it was the lag. Now, my cat could probably sweep the mouse across the screen and blow up everything.

Obviously, don't go out and spend money if you don't want a card upgrade otherwise, but know that you can save yourself a lot of frustration just doing the highest missions you can comfortably complete. You'll be able to buy all the trinkets anyway. The epic chests contain either a grade 22 modification (mod, hilt, etc.) or epic piece. They're random, so not worth the frustration if you can't easily complete the higher missions.

One tip for those struggling with either Hydian Way or The Impossible Sector, i.e. the missions requiring you to punch through minefields: use your EMP Generator (the trinket which does a lot of damage to both enemy and friendly targets) in the middle of minefields. It will not hurt you, but it will blow up 50+ mines at once (I think my record was about 80-90). In the last mission, you can use it twice. This allows you to use all your missiles on enemy ships and bonus objectives, so you'll end up taking less damage and you'll have more time to just fly around with the shield trinket up if you need to regen.

From the perspective of a solo PvE player, how essential is it to do the space missions in order to level up to 50, given that not all MMO or RPG players are into any form of action-based space combat etc?

Is there an optimum level at which you should start doing space missions and do you need to invest in ship upgrades before doing even the easiest ones?

You can go all the way to 50 without doing a single space mission easily. The space missions just give you some extra buffer for exp and credits.

For the very first escort mission you can complete it without any upgrades but that would just be making it harder on yourself than it needs to be. The credits you'll earn from the daily / quest itself will more than offset the small expenditure for the tier 1 upgrades from the fleet vendor.

I started doing the space missions around level 16 (right when I got the ship).

You don't have to even touch them, you can easly outlevel any planet just doing normal quests, space combat is just way to relax, do something different and still get some exp,

Still, you'll get between level to half(or maybe less at later levels) for doing first mission and then daily when new space battle becomes avaible(and they do that based on your level), so you might want to do them, no minimal level.

First mission is easly doable without upgrades, following two too(*), you'll always get information about recomended level of upgrades before each mission.

* next two are doable without upgrades, but you'll be hard pressed for missles in both, so I would recomend upgrading at least this part of ship. Or whole, since it's not so expensive and helps a lot.

Someone told me there are some level 50 purple chests to buy at the fleet badge shop ... Anyone bought some ? what kind of gear ? purple level 5 ?

I actually bought it out of curiosity and was pleased with the reward. I got a level 50 artifact helmet which matched my class.

Doing space missions will give you a financial and exp edge compared to not having done them.

Part of the reason I put this guide together, as well as the videos, is to limit the 'need' to have the best ship upgrades. As a cybertech this time around (compared to beta) I did find the space missions a good deal easier. I actually kept my old space gear for the last two Grade 3 missions (Hydian Way Blockade and Drexel Sweep) instead of using my artifact upgrades.

Power Converting - Your first purchase with Fleet Commendations should be the Power Conversion Module. This thing is awesome. Since your shields won't regen when your blasters are firing, you should power up your blasters any time you are firing them. When you let off to regen shields, switch power to the shield generators. In this way, both your blasters and shields will be much more powerful. Its a great item.

How do you switch between the modes during a space fight? I have yet to get this as I didn't know how to use it. :p

It adds abilities to your hotkeys:

1 = Increase blaster power

2 = Increase shield power

Please note that these can be toggled on and off, so basically you have three different modes to choose from: Normal, increased blaster power and increased shield power. The currently active mode is indicated in the lower left corner of the screen.

Was quite fun to run those once in a while, but after reaching lvl 44 space mission is probably the best way of gaining credits so far in terms of time efficiency. The station defense one gives something like 9k credits with both bonus objective completed(fighters and shield generators destruction) over 5.5 minutes, well, 6 if you count loading and so on. And it's quite easy to do with all level 3 upgrades, except blasted related ones - EW pod makes it quite simple to survive and you don't really need more than 80 missiles here.

Pretty much made me stop caring about prices on GTN :D

I am sure this is posted somewhere, but where do you spend the fleet commendations to upgrade your ship?

On fleet where you buy ship upgrades, or at selected few planetary ship parts dealers.

Arhenaar interception? best thing is to watch for enemies coming from the front, and have grade 2 ship upgrades from a cybertech person

now, you CAN do this with only grade 1 ship upgrades, but with the grade 2, it becomes very easy, ya watch for the little red dots to appear ahead of ya and just mouse over em as ya fire blasters, takes em all out in one or two shots with the grade 2 upgrades

once ya get the converter this mission becomes cake, ya just have to get used to watching for those red dots all over the place on your screen, since it seems like they try to draw your attention away with ships comin up from behind right as the dots appear

the dots in this case are enemy interceptors, in case anyone is wondering at this point

On the frigate ships there is a radar dish on top, is that the shield generator? There seems to also be a target in the core center of the ship thats blue, i think you need to fire a slavo of missles to hit it.

I have some bonus missions to take out shield generators and can never accomplish it
