The thought first struck me when I was doing {Heroic 4 Savage Skies} for the first time with my Jedi Consular, Saruka. Our group was fighting mobs and I noticed one had a white lightsaber! I found it odd that a mercenary with no Jedi training could wield one effectively. If that wasn't weird enough, I later saw rogue Jedi and Sith in {Heroic 2+ The Specialists}. Another heroic on the empire side depicted a Cartel Force-sensitive Warrior mob.

 

My question is simple: Do the Hutts have Force-using organization serving them? Was Toborro trying to form one? It would be nice to know more about this(would make interesting RP, too)

Having force users serve the Hutt Cartel is problematic, IMO.

 

If they are light siders, they should be in opposition to pretty much everything the Hutt Cartel stands for.

 

If they are dark siders, why are they serving Hutts rather than overthrowing and/or usurping the power of their weaker masters?

 

I'm not saying it absolutely can't be explained, just that there seems to be some significant roadblocks to having adherents of either aspect of the force follow Hutts. I suppose you could make them 'gray' force users, but the whole concept of gray force users itself contradicts established lore somewhat.

Force-users switch sides all the time. It stands to reason sooner or later some would find mercenary work preferable to the desire of typical Jedi and Sith. They have unique skills, so they'd be valuable as assassins and enforcers. It's just a matter of having them like credits more than enlightenment or domination. If a Force-user left their respective order at a youngish age, it stands to reason they'd be less adherent to any particular ideology/more open to a life in the underworld. You probably wouldn't find Masters and Darths willing to make the transition, but weaker rejects and exiles would use their Force-sensitivity for a bit of prestige or notoriety/getting people to take them seriously.

In the Inquisitor storyline, Harkun offers a pair of acolytes an early departure from Korriban and freedom from having to become Sith in exchange for them killing the PC. It's possible that mercenaries like the one you mentioned could come from similar situations.

Also, not all Force-users are handed over to the Jedi or Sith.

 

Rakkataki, Echani, and a few other races all have 'traditional' force users, Rakkataki with their Witches, Echani with their warrior training. They don't get shipped to the Jedi or Sith, but instead are taught upon their own worlds their own traditions. This is where the Dark does not Equal Sith, Light does not equal Jedi thing shows up. Many force users simply aren't discovered as well - look at KOTOR 2, where a majority of your crew ends up being force capable, but having never been taught properly. These people might have found it themselves, and trained on their own to learn.

 

Plus, lightsabers aren't actually a jedi/sith only weapon - the only reason they mainly are is because it requires the force sensitive reflexes (due to seeing briefly into the future) to avoid hitting yourself, which is very dangerous when your weapon can cut through you in one motion. In the EU non-force users wield the weapons just fine if they've trained enough - it's just described as being very weird, because you feel as if the blade itself has no weightat all, so you can easily lose track of where it is.

 

This means any force sensitive could train themselves in lightsaber use - they would naturally have the foresight and ability to keep track of the blade like a non-sensitive couldn't.

 

TL;DR: Force wielders who are unaligned exist. Many might make their way as a mercenary, or join up with the Hutts or other gangs.

Your thinking of things from a jedi/sith standpoint. What we know as "Lightside" is defined by the jedi same with the darkside. Its very similar to how society will dictate what is "beautiful" and what isn't.

 

So a force wielding mercenary may use powers that draw from the lightside of the force, but might not have a jedi like personality. We often get confused because we have tied lightside and darkside to personality types and to emotions, which is not accurate.

The Hutts have deep pockets, perhaps even a Jedi or Sith could be swayed with enough credits. Or perhaps they honestly believed the Hutt Cartel would win, and wanted to be on the winning side.
