New raid armor art going into gambling boxes.

There are already enough really good looking orange and purple sets in the game to customize your look with, if you try to find them on the GTN or get them via drops. In addition, they will be adding orange shells to simply buy in the cash shop.

I understand that you must lose set bonuses until attaining campaign gear to fully utilize orange gear, but that will also become easier as the months continue to pass. If you are into raiding, you should probably have 4 pieces of campaign gear by now or pretty soon. If you're not into raiding, then you don't need the set bonuses.

If you PvP primarily, getting 4 pieces of WH gear does not take more than a month or so, simply doing the daily and weekly mission. With the introduction of a new PvP tier set on the horizon, WH will become very easy to get, like BM is now.

Nobody needs to buy anything in gambling boxes to get cool looking Star Wars armor, get around the current endgame gear. With very few exceptions, there are ways of putting together unique looking orange sets in each class.

Oh, okay. Hey, everyone, crisis averted because we already have all the custom gear we could ever want. /sarcasm off. Arunav, we already know every piece of custom gear that is available in the game because there is so little of it available and we can see it all on websites such as Torhead. And If we had all the custom gear we wanted, we wouldn't be pissed off about this issue would we? I guess you're one of those who thinks that if you're happy with the current state of affairs, then that should be good enough for everyone. We're not willing settle for just any "unique looking orange set."

Sounds EXACTLY like how they have done STO. These irritating boxes will drop off of kills, but you can't open them without first heading to the store and paying real money to get a key to unlock these boxes[\b]. They will either have crap inside them (Most often then not) or they will have that *one* piece you have been looking for like crazy that nobody has.

It's a money trap and quite frankly, should be illegal IMO.

Then it looks like i'll be vendoring those boxes because I WILL NOT spend RL money for vitual items in a MMO! I paid for the game disks and am paying a monthly fee, and that's all the RL $$$ that EAware is getting from me.

Honestly, if you don't like the idea of buying a box that you don't know what the contents will be, don't go to the cash shop and buy the stuff. Problem solved.

Pretty much this ^

Remember, kids. It's only a video game. Yeah, we all want those ultra-rare or cool looking items for our toon, but they're not worth eating Ramen noodles for a week or spending the rent money.

That must be why they took out like 80% of the orange gear that was in the game at Beta. We didn't NEED to customize our characters. After all, we're not supposed to be unique or interesting or different. We're all supposed to be completely unspecial and exactly the same. There were dozens of really cool looking sets that were in Beta that "mysteriously" disappeared at launch. I'm willing to bet that we will see them in these "new" boxes.

come to think of it... HK was in Beta too...

man I can't wait to pay for stuff 4 months from now that I tested out 11 months ago...

I talked with Jason Attard (Senior Game Balance Designer) about our plans for endgame armor appearances as well as appearances that will be available in the Cartel Market.

He said that we definitely intend to continue releasing new armor appearances for players doing endgame content. Explosive Conflict and Terror from Beyond were always intended to share the same appearance, just as Eternity Vault and Karagga’s Palace do, and our next Operation will feature a new appearance tier. We have no plans to stop the creation of appearances for endgame content.

The first season of Cartel packs will draw heavily on preexisting armor appearances that haven’t been used for player-wearable equipment thus far. They’ll include some new models, but we did not draw on endgame content appearances for them.

That is the most lame explanation I have heard from CS so far. Second only to the explanation for no PTR character copy in 1.4.

Eternity Vault and Karagga's Palace shared the gear tier - it was the same Rakata gear that was dropping in both.

EC and TFB are two different tiers so the real reason why it was "always intended to share the same appearance" is that the art team is focusiing on cash-grab-f*ck-EA-casino-armor-sets while rehashing the old armors for subscribers who get screwed.

And that's only the beginning. Even if you are paying subscription money you will have to pay tons of money for the cash shop gambling garbage to look cool.

Also you all should know by know what "definitely intend in future" in Bioware's mouth means.

ummmwut? My level 40 Knight has been wearing an orange set robe with hood since halfway through Coruscant and I have a least one or two others in my bank.

That being said, yes more diversity and more items with hoods would be nice (Jedi and Sith) I've only found one orange set for Sith that has a hood.

Nice that you seem to have conveniently forgotten that EV and KP both also drop Columi, which happens to be the same tier as Rakata (and therefore shares a skin). Black Hole = Tionese, Campaign = Columi, Dread Guard = Rakata. Seriously, get your facts right if you're going to throw a hissy fit.

If they start putting anything in gambling boxes that you can't get any other way that will be the end of the game for me. That's the primary reason I left STO and I will leave any game that follows that example.

If they do put stuff in gamble boxes, there better damn well be an alternative way of getting it, even if it's just buying the item outright on the store. If they don't, I'm done.

I agree with you B. I so agree with you.

TBH, if they don't fix 1.4 I may be gone before this is implemented. My Rogues and Hunters are calling me.

You shouldn't have a problem putting together an armor set and avoiding the gambling boxes.

And by putting together, it might indicate taking pieces from multiple sets to achieve a certain look you value. If you take what people have done with their WH and Campaign armorings, there are some really great and unique looks that people have come up with, no matter the class. This will only get better with the addition of the shop.

Heck, it's like going to the movies... Do you know what you are going to get? The correct answer here is 'a movie', not 'a 2 hour+ long movie' or 'a movie that I will really like'.

I worked at a movie theater. You'd be surprised how many people ask for their money back if they thought the movie was bad, sometimes after watching all the way to credits. I agree with your overall point that this shouldn't be the case, but we live in an entitlist society anymore.

No, that is irrelevant. Both EV and KP were released at the same time (ignoring the 1 month delay for KP bosses) and in the 2 highest difficulty levels both were dropping the same gear from the same tier. In every MMO I know a new raid = new looks. To be perfectly honest Tionese / Columi / Rakata sharing the same skin was indeed a bit of a slack which was cut at the time because they were all released at the same time, not awaited for months.

According to your logic Campaign and Dread Guard gear should have the same skin as Tionese/Columi/Rakata because story mode TFB and EC drop Rakata.

Black Hole is the same tier as Campaign bar set bonuses (Tier 2).

Hazmat / Dread Guard is Tier 3.

The bottom line is - it's not cool that new tier of gear, exclusive to the new operation for which we waited for months doesn't have new skins. It's a slap in the face of subscribers because the gear design team is busy with designing **** for the cash shop gambling boxes. And a slap in the face requires an appropriate response.

I think you may be in error - the bottom line is SWTOR is not in good financial shape and needs the cash shop to keep it going. Would you rather the game shut its doors or developers work on what's necessary to keep it afloat, possibly even expand it significantly going forward?

Get used to paying for most cosmetic things you'll want in SWTOR. While I don't doubt there will new raid armor in the future, the best looking shells will be in the cash shop. And some of those, both for purchase and in boxes, will launch in about a month.

Also, it's been stated most anything in the boxes is art that was in Beta but was not released.

paying money on a random event or outcome of a event is gambling imo, this is a video game and minors may play. its irresponsible considering how gambling can ruin peoples lives and imo should be if it isn't illegal. its indeed muddy water

on the other side, all workforce will now be only doing bug fixes and premium content.

I'm paying a subscription and until F2P goes live it's a subscription game. Should I accept that the money I pay is going into development of features I won't get? No, i won't.

FYI I won't spend a single penny on the cash shop and if the game dies because of it I honestly don't care. And stop with the emotional blackmail. it's EA management that put those people in this position. Not me.

It would be like the pvp champ gear boxes I'm sure. I opened 60 and no armor.

After the "good" old champion boxes I honestly don't want to see anymore of that in the game. It's ridiculous, imba, purely luck-based...

What they should (and prolly will) do is they will put the all items individually in the Cartel Shop while making the gambling boxes an alternative for less money. You can gamble - pay less than you'd pay normally but have only a chance to find some random item. Don't remember now but don't they have that in Battlefield Heroes? You can buy all items individually for sick money or you can get yourself cheaper but random weapon packs.

This is the funniest thing I've read in some time.

Let's say you like those Quaker Chewy granola bars while you don't do anything but play TOR and complain about how it is the worst game ever. Man, Chocolate Chip is a damn fine flavor, and you eat only Chocolate Chip. You do know Quaker is taking some of your money to make that S'mores flavor other people prefer, right? Or, wow, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip is the bomb, someone somewhere said. And someone else might buy all three at once, because they just can't help themselves.

And you know that the grocery store isn't selling to you at cost, right?

Do you pay taxes?

How do you manage to leave your house with the necessity of everything you participate in strictly needing to benefit only you?

You're paying roughly 50 cents a day to access servers to play a video game. You aren't owed anything in particular.

It's LA/EA/BW's product, and I hope it's around for a long time to come with the new F2P model, with some sweet Star Wars stuff to purchase in the cash shop that will fund bug fixes and more new content.

And, yes, you can certainly still quit and feel free to do this instead! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHA-_Bxisochttp://

No. You're the one that is missing the point. And that point is that there are certain armor appearances already existing in the game that a lot of us have been wanting custom versions of, but they don't currently exist in the game in custom form. The devs asked everyone to list the armor they wanted custom versions of in a thread on this forum and said they would see about adding those custom versions to the game. Now we're being told that, yes, they are adding the custom versions we asked for but the only way for us to get them is to purchase a gambling box for a random chance. This has absolutely nothing to do with simply finding a unique look. It has everything to do with getting the specific items we have been searching for without having to gamble real money for them. It has everything to do with us telling the devs what would make us happy and the devs, once again, screwing the pooch and alienating more of us with their misguided gambling scheme.

If you are really interested in keeping players from leaving this game, do you really think belittling their complaints is helpful in that regard?
