Help A Newb Make A Decision

So I've been playing this game for about a month now. I've put quite a few hours into it in that month and am now at level 45. I'm on my first "toon" and this is my first MMO. Around 5-7 levels ago i realized the nar shadaa event was going on and that i could get a rancor. I love the starwars universe and the first time i saw someone riding around on a rancor i was like "I must have that!" So I've been farming money mostly through flashpoints and dailies and have put over 500K into the slots to no avail(rancor wise). All this money i could have spent on my character instead just gone :(... Anyways so about the decision I have to make....

Before I even knew about the slots/rancor mess I would occasionally spend my planetary commendations on the really expensive artifact/prototype case/box things. Once I spent like 36 commendations on one and when i opened it it had a sweet robe and I was psyched until I realized my marauder couldn't wear them. They're called Supreme Inquistor's robes and they look really sick and I had planned on making an inquistor so I put em in my cargo hold until then.

Well after losing all my money chasing this rancor I started selling all my stuff on GTN and discovered to my amazement that those robes are pretty rare. I saw someone selling them for 3 MIllion creds! So my dilemma is whether or not I should sell the Supreme Inquistor's Robes on GTN to continue to fund my rancor chase. I know that I'm not even guaranteed a Rancor with 3 million creds and it would really suck losing these robes and not getting a rancor. What should I do!? Does anybody know how much those robes are actually worth on GTN? Is the rancor too much of a long shot? If it weren't my first toon I'd just keep sinking money in but at this point I am way behind on purchasing all the abilities I've unlocked over the past couple of levels. I don't know what to do. I really really want a rancor...and I'm gonna b bummed to have dropped so much money to walk away with nothing. But I also really like these robes....GAH!

No, you should not keep chasing the casino Rancor. Gambling in this game is very, very, very rigged against the player. This goes for the slot machines, the cartel packs, the dye packs, everything. DO NOT GAMBLE.

What you should do is learn how to make credits in the game, then use those credits to buy the things you want on the GTN, getting exactly you want for the price you're willing to pay, all without gambling. You can start to learn how to do that on the Crew Skills forum.

Thanks for the responses. I've figured out that you should buy things from GTN when possible. But certain items can only be had through events....and yea I could save up for the dathimore? rancor i think its called...but the kingpin one looks cooler imo....idk. Also, a question about the crew skills to gain credits. Don't you pretty much need multiple characters to properly craft items worth selling on GTN?...or no? And in general how much are people putting into the slots to get the rancor does anybody know? I read somewhere that somebody put in 8 million credits and still didnt get one. Thats nuts.

It's random. You might get one on your first pull (people have), or you might blow 10 million and come out with nothing. Regardless, if you're not at max level with decent gear and companions in 140 or more, or if you're not absolutely swimming in credits, then you have no business gambling - you can't afford to lose what you almost certainly will.

Pro-tip: The rancor doesn't move any faster than the cheap 20k mounts. And it really isn't that cool. Get something cheaper and more sensible and don't worry about all that nonsense until you've made some more progress.

Sell the robe, use the credits on much more useful things (certain legacy unlocks for example). The Rancor on the GTN is pretty pricey at the moment but if you are prepared to wait a while Bioware will release different colours (reskins) in other packs and the price will plummet - exactly what happened with the Varactyl on release

If you really want the event rancor, go for it. You could even use some of your CC (if you have any left) to buy a pack and toss it on the GTN for a quick few 100k creds (300-400k probably).

Dulfy posted a small guide about it: http://dulfy.net/2014/06/09/swtor-festival-of-splendor-event-guide/#What_are_my_chances_of_winning

Just remember to use the Smuggler's Chips instead of making the mistake of going with the Kingpin's.

According to her calculations it takes roughly 2.3 mil credits to get the rancor on average.

I got mine with less than a million spent, but some other people still didn't get it after spending much more than that (there was a thread about it on the general forums a few days ago).
