on a scale from 1-10, how is asassin dps?

DPS is not really an issue .....well for deception anyways. For most of us that play the class it is the fact that we're glass cannons yet jug, merc, sniper and any pseudo skank tanking class that are out there make playing this class completely moot! Really why play any class where i do huge dps but die quickly when i can play a merc and do huge dps and die rarely!

All things being equal it shouldn't matter what DPS class your playing the outcome should be relativity close if not a tie. What that means is if I could have a simulated computer controlled character for each class pit them vs one another the out come should be close to a tie. Factor in skill and gear and now you have a competition where the outcome of the fight isn't determined by the class but by the player.

 

Think of it this way SWTOR should be more like NASCAR stock engines, about 800 hp around 3450 lbs

Stock DMG target Goal (Burst or sustained) both achieving overall goal going about it differently Burst shouldn't do more then sustained and vise versa)

 

Instead what we have is more akin to Heavy weight boxers going against Welter weights and light weights the odds of winning when going outside your weight class exist but are in most cases unlikely and in most cases not fun especially when you factor in the lame Que system where your now pitting not just one Heavy weight boxer that someone might be able to overcome through player skill but, your instead your pitting them against three or four. Now that match becomes an exercise in futility and at that point what the &^%&^ is the point of playing!

In both they are middling.

 

In PVP (though this is opinion, because anything about PVP is opinion based, almost by neccessity) they are also middling. They do decent damage, decent burst, are very good at 1v1 (only scoundrels are better), can stealth out and defend nodes for a really really long time by themselves (again, only scoundrels are better), have a taunt, and can stealth-cap opponents nodes. In ranked, the stealth out ability is also very very useful for being able to H2F. They also have decent defenses (especially if you spec into force speed dcd).

 

Anyway, all things considered, they are in a good spot. They aren't the best right now at anything, but they are probably the most well rounded class right now.
