Yet another "help me pick what to play thread"

Lol, very sorry to make one of these, people are probably sick of seeing them.

 

I am a returning player who last played during the beginning of hutt cartel expac. As far as I'm aware, several new abilities and what not have been added since then to all classes, and I'm a massive sucker for spell visuals. Am curious as to what class/discipline now has the coolest looking abilities since I plan to pick what I play and enjoy off of that alone. Thanks.

I don't know. What do you think looks cool?

 

Sounds flippant, but really, maybe you don't think that lightning looks cool, maybe you think it's the coolest thing in the universe. (If the former, avoid Lightning Sorcerer, if the latter, you have no option.)

 

Alternatively, try them all and see what you like the look of, then stick with that.

Rather hard to answer that, but i suppose anything that looks flashy is quite nice to me.

 

I have a level 20 lightning sorc already and while the lightning effects are quite nice to look at, there comes a point where I feel like there's a lack of diversity. Every lightning spell seems kind of the same if you understand what I mean. I dont know if this is something that improves with some of the later abilities from 50+ but this was the original turn off for me when I was thinking about maybe continuing the lightning sorc. Another class ive already taken a look at would be the merc and I highly enjoyed DfA but again, that felt like the only "flashy" thing in their kits up to a certain level (since I never bothered to cap out max level). Perhaps I should revisit both of these and get them to higher levels?

It's worth playing all eight stories (four on each faction) if for no other reason than to get all the class-related shared buffs and special Heroic Moment abilities, but also to see all eight stories.

 

If you like setting things on fire *at a distance*, then the Assault Specialist discipline of Commando works pretty well, although I prefer Gunnery (which corresponds to Arsenal for Mercenary). And of course with Commando, you get the added bonus of, um, a Honking Big Gun.

 

But in the end, yeah, play through all eight stories twice, once on each class (once on Commando, once on Vanguard, etc) so that you can see how they all perform, both in terms of story and basic gameplay, but also animations. Then pick the one you liked the most and carry on from there.

Okay, you've already tried two of the examples I would have brought up (Lightning Sorc, Merc "Death from Above"). The others that come to mind for me are:

 

Jugg Warrior: Force Push and Force Choke (two classic sith abilities)

 

Vigilance Guardian: Force Push and Vigilant Thrust (I like the animation and the sound. has real oomph to it). You don't get Vigilant Thrust till L58 though.

 

And both have Force Leap, another classic ability

 

Otherwise, I really can't think of any. Gunslinger I'd say has some pretty fitting moves. Including his regenerative animation.

 

I'll tell you what looks wrong to me: A sniper spraying Suppressive Fire (not that it keeps me from doing so!). And yeah, the JC puny rock hurling, or barely perceptible ground shaking, is less than awe-inspiring (though again, one of my defaults). And BW also decided to show AOE affected area with a silly circle containing your faction’s emblem in the middle (it does have the benefit of a more accurately depicted proc’d diameter).

You know, surprisingly i gave the sentinel/marauder a try and thought it was insanely nice. The lightsaber animations were really well done.

 

The dual lightsaber throw that Marauders & Sentinels have is probably the coolest looking ability in the game. The animation is also slightly different depending on whether it is a Marauder or Sentinel.

Yeah I was mostly playing around with my sentinel since I dont have a marauder yet. Hes only 27 so far, but by far the best looking ability to me seems to be the cyclone slash even though I heard it's absolute dog poo in pvp but atleast it can still be used in pve. The way it has your lightsabers leave very glowy aftertrails is just wow. I do like the story of the SW better tho, so if the marauder equivalent is anything similar, I'd probably roll one of those over the sentinel.
