Well That Really Sucks!
Stupid, stupid, stupid!
Mallay thought to herself as she double timed it to Mannett Point. Luckily, Commander Tavus wasn’t angry with her over her latest outburst. Quite the opposite, he looked like he was trying not to laugh. He did tell her that he was a little surprised though, since her records show her to be a very thoughtful, intelligent, quiet individual who gets things done. She apologized to both him and Lieutenant Jorgan and assured them she conduct herself better from now on. That wasn’t going to be an easy task, especially when she noted the smug amusement showing on Jorgan’s face and immediately felt the urge to break it.
What is it about him that pisses me off so badly?!
She wondered. He certainly wasn’t the first person that annoyed her or treated the lower ranking, younger officers like they were stupid grunts. Maybe it was because she expected better treatment than that by now.
Does that make me such a bad person?! No, it doesn’t because at the level I've reached, I expect some amount of respect from my fellow officers and NOT to be treated like I'm an idiot that just got her first post!
Oh well, hopefully Tavus was correct and that they did find the stolen ZR-57 on Mannett Point. Then they would be able to leave Ord Mantell and she would never have to see Lieutenant Jorgan again!
Mannett Point came into sight as she passed a group of soldiers whose walker had been taken down. She stopped to see if there was anything she could do. The leader told her what happened and asked if she could take out some of the rocket gunners at Mannett Point. Since she was already going there, she assured him that it would be taken care of. She made her way to the beach where she found a shallow, sandy area to cross. The water only came mid-thigh there and she crossed quickly.
She would be rendezvousing with Wraith just inside the base. Wraith had breached the base but was unable to get into the secured area where the weapons were kept. Mallay would be helping her with that. She sighed, not knowing which was worse, creepy Needles, or Wraith, who seemed a bit cold and likely to quietly put a knife in someone’s back. Maybe after they got to know each other, they wouldn’t be so bad. At least the rest of her squad seemed alright. Fuse was nice, quiet and shy like she was so they would probably get along. Gearbox had been nice, very easygoing and despite the fact that he kept calling her ‘kid’ she liked him well enough. Commander Tavus seemed like a reasonable man, the type that wanted to get the job done and keep his people safe, even if it meant bending the rules a little.
Mallay already knew in her short experience that sometimes you needed to go outside proper protocol to get things done and was happy to be under command of someone who felt the same way. She had been under the command of a strait, by the book sort before and it was disastrous. He got the entire squad killed because he wouldn’t stray from his orders, even though there were signs of an ambush everywhere. The only reason Mallay survived was because she had been injured while scouting mere hours before. Her partner took the sniper out, but Mallay had been shot in the leg before they knew he was there. They are the ones who alerted their CO that it was an ambush and told him that they needed to revise their plans. He refused to deviate, saying he had his orders and moved the squad out. Mallay was still recovering in the infirmary when the news came in that her entire squad was gone.
Mallay brought her attention back to the present and found the rocket gunners near the entrance to Mannett point. She took out every one that she found and went on to meet with Wraith. She needed Mallay to enter the main complex and disrupt the force field generator, allowing them both to get inside the secure area. Mallay acknowledged her XO and left immediately. She encountered resistance getting inside, but nothing she couldn’t handle. She found the room where the generator was located. She had to pass through the infirmary to get to it and took pity on the unarmed injured, allowing them to go if they could do so quietly. The generator was well guarded, but a couple of stickies thrown in helped to even the odds a little and created some panic, making the rest easier to take out. She stepped over the corpses, took out the generator, and headed into the now unsecured weapons room.
She found an officer there and asked him to surrender. Wraith showed up then and when the officer refused to talk, ordered Mallay to kill him. She shrugged and raised her blaster up when the officer quickly changed his mind. He told them the bomb had been moved, but he didn’t know where.
Well, that really sucks!
there goes my chance of getting off this planet and away from that irritating Cathar anytime soon!
When asked about the extra security, the officer admitted it was for the three Seperatist Commanders, Saphrro, Vyru, and Bol, who were meeting there to share their data on the different Separatist organizations and movements. Wraith shot and killed the officer then and ordered Mallay in to kill the commanders. Jorgan came over her ear piece to confirm the kill order and asked her to download their data and bring it to HQ. She acknowledged the order and went in to the small meeting room where the commanders were having their meeting. She killed the one at the terminal, Bol, when the others shouted for him to wipe out the data. Saphrro and Vyru were better prepared, but she was able to eliminate them as well, taking minimal injuries. She downloaded the data Jorgan had requested and made her way out of the base.
It was getting late by the time she found herself heading down the main road through Mannett Point and she was feeling the fatigue from the harrowing day she’d had. She was wondering how Bella was doing and where she was when she heard her sister holler out. Mallay turned to see Bella running towards her and couldn't help but smile. Somehow, seeing Bella made things on Ord Mantell easier to tolerate.
