Temper, Temper, My Dear
Mallay left HQ and made her way to the refugee camp just outside of Fort Garnik. A Twi’lek named Mirru had gone to HQ earlier saying he had information for them about a bomb. Since a lot of refugees came to HQ claiming to have info in exchange for credits, which turned out to be bogus most of the time, the soldiers had chased him off before he got a chance to talk to anyone. However, with everything happening with the stolen ZR-57, Lieutenant Jorgan and Fuse decided not to leave anything to chance and wanted her to speak with Mirru while they went through Bellis’ field box.
Mallay was still feeling sick over Bellis’ getting killed while he waited for her and that was weighing heavy on her as she walked through Fort Garnik. She was also feeling embarrassed over Fuse and Jorgan hearing her little outburst to Bella while they were returning from Talloran and irritated at Jorgan’s overall attitude towards her.
What's his karking problem with me anyways?!
Then she sighed as she approached the camp,
Bella is right though, he does have a nice backside….even if he does act like he has a rifle jammed up it!
She spotted a small, pink skinned male Twi’lek at the far end of the camp. He appeared nervous as she approached.
“Oh, no…no you don’t, not again.” He stuttered, “didn’t you guys rough me up enough when I came to HQ?”
“Are you Mirru?” Mallay asked and he nodded anxiously eyeing the blaster at her hip. “Look, I'm sorry about what happened earlier, but my squad just heard that you had information about a bomb for us.”
“Oh, so now you want my help, well I might've been more willing before that savage beating I took.” Mirru told her, a look of greed coming over his face.
“Please, sir, a lot of lives are at stake…” she started, her temper rising.
“What about my life, huh? Things aren’t that easy here, it’s been rough for me lately….”
Mallay’s temper exploded, “Oh, it’s been rough has it? Well, let me tell you about rough! Since I landed on this lovely planet this morning, I got to see the transport I arrived in get blasted out of the sky as it was leaving, then the walker that was taking me to the Fort was taken down by a Separatist rocket launcher, killing the driver. I got to kill my way through Drelliad Village to find and destroy any remaining rocket launchers. After that, I got to fight my way through more of those karking Separatists to get to Fort Garnik where I barely had time to catch my breath before being sent to beautiful Talloran. Oh, and so much fun I had there, I got to kill even more Separatists to find that the man I was supposed to meet was dead. I got to tell that man’s wife that her husband was killed while he was waiting for me to arrive. Then I decided to vent my frustrations to my sister as we walked back here and forgot about my armor cam that activated whenever I leave the fort, so a couple of my superiors got to hear my embarrassing rant, including that ball busting Cathar, who the rant was about, that's been giving me crap since I met him. So you'll have to excuse me for not being overly concerned about how rough it's been for you!”
Mirru looked like he was about to wet himself by the end of Mallay’s tirade and she felt bad about going off on him like that. It wasn’t his fault she was in such a craptastic mood. She took a deep breath to calm herself.
“Hey, I'm sorry for going off like that,” she sighed, “and I'm not completely heartless. When I was in Talloran, I acquired some med kits that had been stolen from the fort by the Separatists there. I ended up giving them to a Cathar refugee in one of the tents at the other entrance to the fort.” Mirru stopped shaking when he noticed Mallay had calmed down.
“That's actually pretty decent of you, most soldiers wouldn’t care enough.”
Mallay shrugged, “Now, I was told that refugees got credits for their information, so I'm sure if your information checks out, you'll be paid.”
Mirru relaxed and told her of an ambush the Seperatists had for troop convoys coming to Fort Garnik. They had bombs with remote detonators along the road leading into the fort. They could hide in the hills and set them off as the convoys passed through.
“Thank you for telling me.” She smiled, then jumped as her Holo went off, startling her. It was Jorgan,
probably to tell the stupid rookie to hurry up,
“We heard everything Mirru said and we want you to act on it now!” Jorgan barked.
Mallay swallowed hard, “You heard the conversation, sir?”
“Yes, the refugee camp is outside the fort, Sergeant.”
“Oh, damn,” she muttered, covering her face with her free hand.
“Hey, is that the ball busting Cathar?” Mirru whispered, noticing her embarrassment.
“Yes, that would be me. However, I fail to understand why that is such a threat to Sergeant Lauren since she's obviously female and doesn’t have any balls for me to bust!” Jorgan replied, sounding a little amused.
Mallay felt her face heating up and figured it was probably the same shade as Mirru by that point when Jorgan went on.
“Now, Mirru, you can come back to HQ for your payment and Sergeant Lauren, you need to move out and take care of those bombs, double time it! Jorgan out.”
Mirru bade her good luck and she headed out to disable the bombs. They were not too difficult to find and Mallay used her rifle to vent out her frustrations on any Separatists she found along the way. Soon, the bombs were permanently disabled and Ord Mantell had fewer Separatists to worry about, and Mallay was making her way into HQ when Private Farn stopped her.
The private looked nervous and Mallay smiled at him and having sensed his crush on her, hoped that would calm him so he could get out whatever he stopped her for. Apparently, there was an officer making those serve under him bribe him for assignments. Those that paid, lived, those that didn’t pay up, ended up with assignments that were a guaranteed death sentence. Private Farn had just lost a buddy that tried to tell a higher up about Virk’s activities and was worried that he was next. Mallay, who detested corrupt officers, assured him that she would let her superiors know about what was going on. She promised to leave his name out of it so he would be safe from Virk until he was dealt with. Then she headed in to report to her squad and Lieutenant Jorgan.
