Computers, like any technology, can break for a variety of weird and wonderful reasons. It's possible that there was a fault already present on the machine, and it just manifested when it did. It's pretty much impossible to tell for sure.

That Dxdiag is not showing proper graphics card details, which is consistent with your previous description of the issue. Sometimes, this is due to driver issues, which is why the agent went through that step with you. Sometimes, though, it's a hardware issue and ASUS will need to take a look at what's gone wrong.
