I've been playing MMORPGs since 1997 and have done my fair share of "OMG THIS NEXT ONE WILL BE THE BEST EVER!". I did it with Shadowbane.....(we know how that one ended up) and also with Warhammer (worst one ever!). My concern is that I have now done that with SWTOR.
Current Issues that need fixed:
Stun Wars-
PvP is not engaging. The only skill involved seems to be in timing of resolve vs usage of interrupts and your stun. I believe the vast majority of players do not like the way PvP is designed around the stun approach. This needs a drastic fix. How about something like....when your resolve bar fills up completely, you are given 30 seconds of stun immunity?
Zero World PvP
The biggest let down of the game. Warzones? Ya those don't get boring. We were kind of promised world PvP with 100v100. Anyone that tried Ilum knows it was a slideshow with anymore than 20 people. There was no objective or purpose to the PvP. The wheelchair circling for weapons crates was possibly the worst idea I ever saw. Instead of just removing the Ilum quests, there needs to be some kind of event that destroys the entire planet. We need to cleanse our memory of this terrible planet.
Low amount of end game
The two end game operations are fun! Interesting boss mechanics and a nice story line to go with them. Whats the problem then? Well, they are too short and on a weekly timer. If you went through on 8 man hard, why bother trying for 16man hard? Or even nightmare? the gear is no better. Is bragging rights worth it? Not to most.
Crafting
We all know the issues with crafting. It looks like 1.2 is going a long way in fixing this.
Space, or lack thereof
So, despite being on "rails" the space portion of the game was fun. The 30th or so time you do the same space mission, not so much. This is where the game could really shine! This is Star Wars, right? Lets get some large scale space battles. We all know Ilum was a tremendous failure....so how about world SPACE pvp? Control of a certain star system by either faction leads to PvE bonuses or crafting bonuses? This would involve the destruction or "taking" of space stations, large capital ships, supply points, etc....
I'm very hopeful that there can be changes to bring the game to be more engaging. My fear is that the devs are not working in a direction that the community is interested in that will keep the player base going. The game hasn't been out for very long and already boredom is setting in.
I did pay for 6 month subscription. Kind of foolish, I know. However, I did cancel my subscription and took my time in giving very detailed feedback to the customer service department as to why. I will continue to play until my paid time runs out. Lets hope over the next few months the changes will be grand enough to make me want to re-subscribe (as well as many others!)
