  1. My main toon is a Jedi Shadow tank. In PvP I keep getting attacked by a disk like contraption, which floats above my head like a halo and shoots fire. When I die, the dialogue box reads "defeated by scorch attack." How the heck do I defend against this attack? I have tried to track down the attacker and kill them but I cant find them in the crowd of PvP'rs I cant run from it and I have so far found no defense against it. What is this contraption? How do I avoid it? How do I escape it?. And lastly, how do I find the person casting it? Thanks.
  2. I like strategy and problem solving in a game. For example, how do you accomplish a task solo, with 10 lvl 55 NPCs and 5 Lvl 55 Golds? Of course it is impossible without the right tools-like land mines and local resources. The terrain should provide- sinkholes or quicksand; something for the player to maneuver around or to trap the heavy enemy and slow them down long enough to barrage the bad-guys with artillery, or simply to escape! I am tired of large groups of slash and smash characters with no plan. I want to do large dangerous missions, solo and solve for "x." Why is it the only way to kill an NPC enemy in SWtOR is to use a group in a group phase (Or Heroic 4)? Why cant I get some points for being ingenuitive and using terrain or hiding spaces? I am not talking about leveling up past the heroic 4-but using your head (at the heroic's lvl) to solve the problem! Why cant I be rewarded for figuring out the right combination of moves to beat their stupid algorithm, and why cant I have tools like landmines to maneuver troops into traps or for setting traps? I don't like groups-if I liked groups I would be outside in the real world instead of here on my day off. OK Enough whining, time to go back and get killed again, because I refuse to play well with others..
  3. Man I HOPE I am wrong about the game burning-and I hope EA sports pulls through. I like Star Wars, but the only way to save the game is to get new members to sign on and it looks like the Star Wars Fans are tapped out. Most of us bailed after the first three months. I don't know what it costs to support this game-but I am assuming at some point the costs of maintaining it will exceed the income it provides and the remaining stock Holders wont be happy about this. EA is not General Electric or GM or Microsoft they can fail stock holders know this and will run for cover. I really hope they don't fail though, because I loved almost all their products.
  4. They should have stuck with Xbox games MMOs are too big and expensive plus, Star Wars has such a diverse fan base it is impossible to please everyone; therefore it was bound to fail People are starting to ask themselves whether or not it is worth eighty bucks for a six month for a subscription to run around an artificial world chatting with 14 year-olds (NO Offense to 14 year olds) and shooting NPCs; what sold this franchise was a story concept with the illusion of freedom and the illusion of having an effect on the outcome. this is an MMO there can never be an outcome it doesn't end. it has a badly composed episodic story structure with no dramatic arch or climax-because to have that you have to have an ending. The art work is brilliant, but it is basically the same story and game over and over again. Personally I don't understand why people didn't see this coming. The law of diminishing marginal utility states, the first unit of consumption of a good or service yields more utility than the second and subsequent units. The rule states that a good or service should be consumed at a quantity at which the marginal utility is equal to the marginal cost I other words consumers are getting more and more bored with this game ever time they play it. Unless the magic internet fairy craps out billions of more $ to rewrite and create new story/game lines the game has to be doomed. And you can trust my analysis I got my Degree in Economics Now if you will excuse me I have to fry up these burgers for the lunch crowd.
  5. A story Arch : is like a climax in the action...Where Vader tells Luke he is the daddy...And generally there is a build up of conflict which may or may not be foreshadowing to let the viewer imagine what may or may be a head. This game is an episodic style, like a television sitcom-where the drama is less intense and more focused on action. It just doesn't feel like star wars to me. It feels like I am running around a maze shooting at Nazis in some first person shooter. The original post was meant to be amusing-because how can one corporation possibly please a group as diverse as Star Wars geeks? It feels like the dramatic climax in this story will be the eventual end of SWtOR... Personally I wish they would do a rewrite and make a more basic version focused on a decent story. And yeah I did put this in the wrong forum...big whooop?!?! MUST BE THE ALZHEIMERS...
  6. I just learned that on myself, I believe it stands for Massive Multiplayer Online....?
  7. It doesn't evolve though. If it evolved I would be intrigued. I want to see the game develop into something. Perhaps I missed it the first time through, where specifically does the game evolve in the story: I have played Jedi Knight and Cunsular all the way through. Where is the story arch where is the character conflict where does the game make me question whether my actions were just or not? Thanks for the reply.
  8. "This game will fail because it is not exactly the type of game the OP wants to play and is not a fan of people in general, especially Star Wars fans." Nothing to see here folks, move along." I don't speak computer you have to actually write it out , or I have no idea what you are attempting to communicate. Thanks for the response.
  9. First this MMO will fail, because Star Wars Fans are schizophrenic geeks who have no concept of what they actually want. The kids between the ages of 10 through say 14 want action, the 14 through 28 year olds' want action and story, with some PvP and us old bastards who where THERE at Grauman's Chinese Theatre for opening night in 1975/6 (cant remember the date) want a story driven interactive game where we don't have to deal with the other geeks. The developers attempted to do too much and please everyone-now the thrill is gone and the gamers are leaving, all because we are socially awkward ***** who basically hate everyone and everything. My point is, this not bioWare's fault. It is our fault for wanting what technology is unable to provide. All I wanted was a damn Xbox game with the illusion of freedom; 365 degrees of movement-like Grand Theft Auto, with multiple story lines one each for the dark side-Light Side and neutral, and a cinematic movie style with a dramatic story arch in the style of Star Wars. I never actually wanted to run around building crap and "chatting" with you people: Because people suck. What I wanted was a game that pushed my decent little Jedi Character farther and farther to the dark side by posing moral question that have no light side outcome. And then when he falls, I want to have a story option that allows me to Redeem myself-or stay dark side. I wanted to be manipulated into going dark side-I wanted to see the character and the story evolve-like in the KotOR I and II.. Choices in the game are too cut and dry. In real life good intentions sometimes have dark outcomes. I know this from experience I fought two wars and I can tell you sometimes you mean to do good and you still end up doing bad. In philosophy we pose these questions to students with thought experiments-like the Prisoners Dilemma, or Garret Hardin's Tragedy of The Commons, Or that lifeboat conundrum, that I can't remember the names too at the moment-because I am old and senile (somebody out there somewhere will know the title and correct me)-allowing the group to make choices and then showing statistical outcomes and letting the group figure out the the consequences. In this game all you have to do is allow for the possibility that good intentions may have bad consequences and then let the story evolve from there. You get the much needed dramatic arch if you are Light Side, If you are dark side i think you are basically screwed; I cant think of a way to manipulate a player into going light. A good start is to attempt to make me care about the characters. which is difficult because most Star Wars Geeks are cynical *****s who basically hate everybody.
  10. "I want an xbox version that makes me feel like I am apart of an episodic story line, has a dramatic story arch and a conclusion that reflects the moral choices I have made." (ME) All you did was take Star Wars Galaxies and improve it. Other than that, your game so far has been tedious. I feel nothing for the character I created, and I feel nothing for the characters and NPCs I interact with, (AND I REALLY WANT TO FEEL SOMETHING FOR THESE CHARACTERS and NPCs) there is no story and there is no story arch-YOU NEED A DRAMATIC STORY ARCH-WHICH REQUIRES A CONCLUSION. And lets face it you cant have a conclusion with an MMO! There is no sense of impending dread, or ominous sense of doom, BECAUSE THERE CAN NEVER BE AN ENDING. I play the game with the soul purpose of building a character, so I can watch a story unfold-and I am getting to the point where I simply don't care for your story, because there is no ending! I don't feel like I am interacting with the story or apart of an epic struggle. I feel like I am watching a theatre students crappy play, where all the characters represent the author, and it is like I am listing to some ******e talk to himself for an hour. Also the game is too difficult to get through, and I feel I am wasting my time building a character just to watch your idea of a Star Wars Movie. This sucks! I want an xbox version that makes me feel like I am apart of an episodic story line, has a dramatic story arch and a conclusion that reflects the moral choices I have made. This should give the player a feeling that they were a participant rather than an observer. So far I feel like an observer. You cannot have that with an MMO! Not unless you incorporate episodes into the game and hire a team of writers and designers to program it. Tell your corporate Masters that you will eventually go the way of Star Wars Galaxies, because geeks like me will get tired of the never ending quest with no point and eventually the people who stay will grow up and get jobs and cut your service. Like I am cutting it when my subscription ends. I am not trying to be rude, or impress you, I am simply trying to get you guys to go back to what you had with KotOR. It was a true art form, it was interactive and fun. It incorporated concepts and philosophical quandaries I could use in class. Now you have a never ending run on sentence, with no thesis, no works cited page, and point. Thanks, but I am done with your service as soon as the subscription is up.
