  1. These changes look good to me. It seems the devs looked at the problems with the current system and tries to fix them. Escpecially the stronghold requirement bugged me because I like to build my strongholds theme based. My Yavin Stringhold for example is based on tpombs and sith artifacts. However it means that I never reached 100%. A stronghold should feel like a home, not like some place with stuff litered around. The only question I would have is: A vendor was mentioned in the road map with completed conquests as a requirement. Any information on that?
  2. Did I say that Spain is poor or something? No I didn't. And I didn't mention anything about it's part in the EU. I'm honestly begin to think that you only want to read what you think I was writing and not what I wrote for real. I can assure you that there are more hidden motives behind this. There arent. I'm just trying to understand why the promise you are talking about wasn't realized as of yet. Maybe I should have not been specific and of course there are wealthy countries in Latin America. On the other hand there are countries like Venezuela where the inflation rate is high and a release may cause problems just because Star Wars is a brand from US. On the other hand Star Wars may not be established as a brand in a few of these countries. Contrary to public knowledge Star Wars is not known equally across the world. See the China example listet in my previous post. However, I can't make hard assumptions about that. Even you example WoW - the biggest MMO in the world - made only a relativly small attempts in Latin. WoW hasn't even servers for Latin America. Subscribers from Latin America have to use servers from other areas. I can only presume that the market there is not big enought - even for a juggernaut as Activision Blizzard. This is a fact. Facts are not racist, won't you agree? But by insulting me as a racist because I do not share your opinion or doubt what you claim - thousands of new players from 30 countries by doing a translation - only shows how single minded you really are. Oh and according to this Wikipedia article there are 20 countries were Spain is spoken. Don't get me wrong it's still an impressive amount, but it's not 30. And I wouldn't count countries where Spanish speaking people immigrated. After all, many Germand immigrated to the USA too during past waves and still immigrate today. The will probably speak German at home too. So would wou count the US as a German speaking country? Well promises made - especially in a forum - can be attributed to the Marketing department od EA/Biorware. You know how these departements work? They are more like leeches when releasing information as soon as the development departements or the managements (usually the latter) brings an idea up and start working on it. The information gets released and then something happens. The development funds and/or the resorces get cut. Or the focus of development changes i general (Management: "We have to develop a new expansion!"). Or you phase a problem which cannot be solved. These promises are remembered by the audiances and they are unfuriated if they are canceled. It happens to often in the Tripel A market. There were plenty examples in the last year alone. I'm a software developer myself (although not in the gaming industry) so I do naturally forgive such things a little easier. It happened to me often enought. When Bioware/EA dropped your translation in the first place they probably did so because the focus shiftet and they weren't sure the effort was worth the gain compaired to other parts of this game. This may be sad, but it's reality. Would I like to have the game available in more languages? Sure, if the normal content cycle is not broken too much by it. But I don't think it will happen in it's current state.
  3. Sorry, but I don't play this MMO just to learn English as a language. My post above should make that more than clear. The improvement of my knowledge of the English tongue is just a neat side effect. But I don't play the game for that. As a side note, I don't think that the Chinese language will replace English as the wiorld language anytime soon. But I digress. To come back to your 30 countries where Spanish is spoken ... that doesn't mean in all of these countries are potential customers. Lets be honest in most of these countries (especially in Latin America) people don't want - or are able to afford - the amount of money we pay for our monthly SWTOR fees. WoW can do this only by vutting these fees by a very high degree for these countries. People there basically pay near to nothing for their subscriptions compaired to the US and EU. If SWTOR would come with "our" subscription fees they wouldn't get much of their investment back and in the end that's what matters when it comes to new players. Their contribution to the cartel market would be minimal too. I mean no offense by that of course. I don't count the Spanish-speaking US citizens because they should be able to speak English. Granted that may be an inconvinience but that's surely not the main problem. China is a different topic. They don't have the brand "Star Wars" established there. That's the reason why the coming Han Solo movie will have it's name altered and the "a Star Wars story" removed from the title. For a theme park MMO like SWTOR that would mean death on arrival. By the way I'm pretty sure they thaight about their investments for the translations when they released them in the first place. Granted only 6 countries may speak it but I guess the boys and girs at Bioware/EU must have thought that there would be more than enought customers for their translation effort. And judging from the first few month after SWTOR was launched back in 2011 I tend to agree with that assumption.
  4. It's interesting that the focus on your answer was only on the last part of my posting. That was only meant as a side note in a way that maybe not everyone uses his local language client. And I can assure you I have no identity problems whatsoever. The reasons why I usually use the English client is simple: convenience. Most class and boss guides are written in English because thats the majority of the playerbase. Reading - and understanding -these guides is much easier if your interface is in English and you don't have to translate every skill / ability to your own language. And of course there's the problem with incorrect translations - be it intentionally or unintentionally. Maybe you heard from the "May the fourth be with you"? The origin of that was actually an (unintentional) error of a translation. Not to mention changing the whole topic of conversations just to lip sync which is often done in movies and TV shows and if I heard it correctly it's done in SWTOR too an some occations. And be the way: Comparing a game with relative low dialog/text like Star Wars Battlefront II and a MMO with heavy dialog/text like SWTOR isn't a good example. The first can done with a relative low amount of ressorces, the other can't. My TL : DR was more: Lack of resources in the development department. The resources that the SWTOR team has available seem to be prettly low at the moment. And according to the many threads here in the forums people seem to like more new story/group/pvp content. And it seems to be the focus of the development right now, even if the gaps between the updates seem to be huge compared to other MMOs.
  5. I know that it was posted in the first page of this thread, but if you mean World of Warcraft by Warcraft, than you are highly mistaken. They invest very much money - and development power - in this game and not just in the development of new addons but in new, huge content patches too. It could even be that they invest the most money in the MMO industry for that kind of stuff. If you ask me, neither the French nor the German translations were necessary or needed for this game - in both cases (the synchronizations and the subtitles). They only slow the development for new content down by a large margin. And the merge of the european English, French and German servers are just a matter of time and not the matter of if. However, I should note that I have experience with games like Star Trek Online which has basically only one server so everyone has to speak/write english. What happen there are that people tend to create French-Only, German-Only, Spain-Only, etc. guilds and/or groups and refuse to communicate in other languages than their own. So even that wouldn't probavly help that much. Oh and just to be clear: I'm a German myself and changed to the english version of the client shortly after launch of SWTOR. In general I play all my games in English. In my optionion English is the world language and should be spoken by everyone. And trust me when I say from my own experience that speaking/reading/hearing English will probably help in your job too because we all live in a globalized world. And I know many Germans on the German server who use the English client too. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if German players who actually use the German client are the minority. I can't say the state of the French version though.
  6. I started playing this game when it was released back then in 2011. I started on one of the german servers and affter the two server merges that happened I'm now on Tulak Hord, I build my characters - and their legacy - up to a legendary player level with things like the HK51 achivement completed, all datacrons collected and all chaarcter classes leveled to 70 including their class stories. One week ago I started a new character, this time on a completely new server - Darth Malgus. I noticed that all my legacy wide achivements are missing, including the datacrons. At least the missing datacrons are annoying to get again. Now I wonder what would happen if I transfered one of my characters - sag my Gunslinger - from Tulak Hord to Dath Malgus. Would my existing legacy be transfered too or would he be in the same situation as my new character?
  7. I was hoping for a little bit more of technical stuff like ... dual specc? As a main Jedi Sage Seer solo content is somewhere betwenn hard and annoying long. This would and help out so much because to respec every time and change the keybinds is just poor And I know I shouldn't complain as a Jedi Sage because we can do good DPS as a healer but ...
  8. I'm not quite sure if this is intended or a bug - or worse an exploit - but the mission "A Special Snowflake" from the Life Day Snowball Bomb rewards 325 CXP. Maybe it's only because of the double XP which are currently running, if you keybind the item and e.g. do normal PVE content (like the heroics on Alderaan for the weekly conquest) you can make two CXP levels in about 10 minutes, not counting the other sources. This seems to be a little bit much for ... just throwing shnowballs at NPCs...
  9. Is it just me or can anyone else not login right now? I get the "Unable to retrieve patch data" error and can't start the game from the launcher. Obviously my internet connection works fine and a restart of my machine didn't help My location is Germany like the pre-poster here having the same problem. Not quite sure if this is a bug or feature...
  10. I'm s subsriber of SWTOR since the game started but still play WoW mainly. Before you read any further: please note that this post is NOT meant to be a comparison between these two MMOs. Now last weekend I finished in WoW the riddke to get the "Lucid Nightmare" Mount. Basically it was a riddle from the devs which the community had to solve. They gave the first hint and the community had to solve it like a scavenger hunt across - mostly - the old world. An overview about it can be found hier: (not quite sure if I'm allowed to post this here...). This is not the only riddle which was released during the current expansion. I didn't do these riddle because I wanted the mount. It doesn't look that good compared to other more easy available mounts. The reason I did the riddle was not for the reward, it was für the jouney to get their. And I found out that I really liked it, even the labyrinth in the end. The devs there did something special which you can only experience during this riddle. This journey will probably stay in my memories during my whole WoW gaming career, one I will always look back positivly. But what has this to do SWTOR? Well, we had something like this here too. The original Shroud Questline and Digging (GSI?) released with the Rise of the Hutt Cartell expansion comes in mind. And to some extend the questline where you have to rebuild HK51. They began as a quest you picked up, let you literaly travel trough the whole galaxy, had personal instanced whoch special activities - e.g. not all combat, some with riddles to be solved or jump & run puzzels. And at least the first two mentioned each culminated into an awesom 4-man Heroic. The rewards their wheren't really awsome - with the exception of the HK51 companion (this one is still superior as the HK55 companion in my optionion). The reason I did these quests was not primarily for the rewards, but for the journey. It is a little bit sad that most people playing MMOs nowadays only want to do large questlines if the rewards are awesome. Wouldn't it be awseome if there would be a new side activity aside from the current storyline where you can but not have to progress? It would probably make the world of SWTOR so much larger... The reward could be maybe a special mount or title or maybe some special item. Nothing fancy just something your have in your inventory and/or in your character screen where you can remember what special journey you traveled? In my opinion it would make this game so much better. But what di I know, after all I'm just a meatbag
  11. I have to agree, the Lucien set seems a little bit wierd right now, at least in comparison with the KotoR comic series. That's kind of sad because I always liked the artwork of Lucian's jedi clothing a lot and looked forward to see it finally released in SWTOR with a cartell pack. We can only hope this will fixed and/or the preview may not the final result of the armor in the upcoming pack. PLEASE fix this Bioware!
  12. I guess it was mentioned before, but I would like to have a nexu cat mount.
  13. Well,it looks a litte bit like the Robe of Marka Ragnos, just without the chains. I would like to see something like this too in the CC store. Would look cool an a Jedi charracter...
