  1. But there is a better matchmaking where the teams have equal elo. Why did it not do that?
  2. We are told that balancing by ELO is the prime objective of the rank matchmaking algo. However, I just played in a match where that doesnt seem to be the case. I looked up the ELO of all 8 players involve Team A: Average elo = (1496+1416+1291+1140) = 1336 Team B: Average elo = (1406+1237+1150+1055)/4 = 1212 So theres a pretty big 100 ELO difference between the team which can be easily resolved by just switch some players. Not only does team A have the 2 highest ELO players, but team B also has the lowest player. This seems very unbalanced. If you just swap the 1291 ELO from team A with the 1055 ELO from team B, then both teams will have an average ELO of ~1270. That seems like a much better matchmaking than the one that actually occurred. Can the mods please explain more concretely how matchmaking actually works? Why are unbalanced teams so common??
  3. The vent is insta killing people and many classes are exploiting it to kite. If you are being tunneled in the Mando ring, its a legitmate strategy to constantly just run into the vents to try to kill people. The benefits of killing someone else in the ring outweighs the the chance of dieing in the ring yourself. If you cant fix the vent bug, just remove it fromt he ranked q. Ranked matches shouldnt be determined by insta deaths.
  4. I click the recalibrate button on a piece of gear, the button goes gray, and then literally nothing else happens. https://imgur.com/a/1wNQa8k No screen pops up, no potential amps to choose from. Literally nothing happens. I waited for 10 minutes, still nothing. I cant seem to modify anything on this character. No shells, amorings, mods, or anything.

    Whatever

Im happy to be shown wrong if someone can link a post from bioware saying they treat the first 20 matches differently from other matches. Otherwise, the argument remains that for almost all ELO systems, the change in ELO for any matchup only depends upon the current rating of the two sides, not on the amount of games played. If Bioware is implementing some weird system, i would like to see some proof. Otherwise, its reasonable to assume that they have implemented ELO normally. Anecdotal testimonies of getting large rating jumps early on doesnt prove anything. Unless you have documented the ratings all the players in the match, youre argument doesnt prove one thing or another. The only way to rigorously test this is to have a matches where two people are of the same rating but with different amount of games played. If their rating change from that match is different, then ill believe you guys. Until then, placement matches are a myth

Thats just your confirmation bias. The reason why it seems like your rating changes a lot during your first 10 matches is because you are lowly ranked at the start so any result causes a big shift. Unless bioware is implementing some weird elo system, it shouldnt matter if you have 100 games with 1300 elo or 5 games with 1300. In both cases your elo change should only depend upon the average elo of your team vs the opponent. Ive played ranked on and off for several seasons now.

    Whatever

If bioware is calculating ELO rating correctly, then all that matters is your elo vs your opponents elo. The only reason it seems like your rating jumps a lot during the first few matches is because you start at 1200 elo which is well below the elo of the higher ranked players in your match. If you end up exactly at 1200 elo after 10 matches, then its no different than a player with 0 matches played. A player with 1300 elo after 10 matches vs a player with 1300 elo after 500 matches arent treated differently. There shouldnt be anything special about the first 10 games.

There is no such thing as "placement games". You get a rating the moment you finish your first solo ranked match. It doesnt appear on your character sheet but if go to the leaderboards, itll tell you your ranking after the next 2 hour update. Placement matches are a myth. Try it for yourself if you dont believe me. Play 1 match, wait for the next leaderboard update and search your character name. The reason elo doesnt show up until 10 matches is because your elo doesnt count towards end of season rewards unless you have played 10 matches. The first 10 matches are no more or less important than the last 10 matches. For the last few seasons, the matchmaking isnt separating low elo from high elo players as much. There are still plenty of matches where 1600+ elo plays with 900 elo.
  9. First off, there is no such thing as "placement games". For the first 10 games, your rating doesnt show up in the character page but it shows up online on the leaderboards. You get a rating for every game. The reason the first 10 games dont show up in the character page is because you dont get credit for season rewards unless you play at least 10 games. Independent of that, the players with 1 ELO rating right now should not be considered 1 ELO rating for the matchmaking. They should be considered 1500+ for matchmaking purposes since that is their true rating.
  10. Recently, Bioware reset the ratings of wintraders to 1 and that is causing some issues in matchmaking. Since matchmaking is based upon average rating, players with ELO rating of 1 will end up with very good teammates to compensate for their low ELO. I was q'ing as a tank on SF (toon name is Rob-Stark) and got a match with an unbalanced comp. My team's ELO rating was (915 +1200+1227+1486), which averages to 1207 The opposing team rating was (1479+1297+1220+1). But the person with 1 rating was actually a wintrader. This dude was actually a platinum tier player in a prior season so his true rating is probably 1500-1600. So the true rating average for this team would have been around 1350-1400. Is there anyway Bioware can account for this rating loophole that creates stacked teams due to the false ELO?
  11. It depends on the game mode which is better. In solo r (or in matches without a healer), healing is better. This is reflected in the fact that mercs still are the best dps in solo r since they have the best overall self heal capabilities. While mara dcd are strong in solo, mercs dcd are still the strongest since most of solo is all-dps matches. In granked, mitigation is better since the most important thing is to survive the 5-6 seconds your tank and/or healer is stunned. Thats why maras reign supreme in g ranked. They have lots of decent but not overpowered, short-cooldown dcd that allows them to repeatedly survive for a few seconds while the healer is stunned. The mara DCD are not individually stronger than the best Merc or sniper dcd but they let you survive till you can be helped by the tank and healer. Merc dcds are good against uncoordinated play while mara dcds are good against coordinated play. That seems like a fair give and take.
  12. Why are some cooldowns allowed but not others? Can we get a clear justification for why sage/sorcs can still phase walk after the acid hits but sent/mara cant use force camo? It does seem unbalanced that some classes dont get to use their DCD for acid.
  13. They consider combat to be the burst spec since it does have higher burst than concentration. A 5 second window during and after precision does 100k+ damage. The comparable window for concentration does 80k damage. Thats why people run combat + sharpshooter for team ranked hardswaps and not concentration. That difference is marginal in regs but its pretty big in team ranked. Over a 8 second window, both specs are pretty much the same in pvp. While i do find it weird that they consider concentration to be a quasi-burst spec (its definitely a pure burst spec), im okay with them calling combat a burst spec.
  14. Swoosh, swoosh. Thats the sound of bioware sweeping this under the rug
  15. Looking at this post from 2013, Im guessing bioware knows about this and cant fix it http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=696897 Bioware is gonna sweep this under the rug again
