  1. I too was in a similar situation. I came from a WoW Rogue and was contemplating all three possibilities(Assassin, Operative, and Marauder) and after playing with all of them I think the Marauder fits me the best, I'll explain. I think the thing I liked most about my Rogue in WoW was that he was pretty fast paced with a good number of abilities. The Marauder to me definitely feels the fastest of the 3. My WoW Rogue was also pretty strong, when played well I could always have higher DPS which of the 3 the Marauder has. Finally I liked that the Rogue in WoW had a way to jump around in PvP(Shadowstep) which the Marauder kinda has in Force Charge. To me the Operative "feels" the most Rogue-like, but his DPS is very low and unfortunately I've been asked to heal much more often than to do melee DPS. I like having a knife and sneaking around stabbing people but the damage is just too low for me. The Assassin is pretty similar, only I think he does abit more damage than the Operative AND he has more survivability, but he probably feels the least Rogue-like. Other than having Stealth I don't see the Assassin as very much like the Rogue So for me it comes down to the Operative who feels very much like a Sub Rogue or the Marauder who feels very much like a Combat Rogue. I decided to focus on the Marauder because he will be my only straight DPS toon without healing or tanking trees and I don't want to be pigeonholed into healing all the time. Yes I do miss stealth, but not as much as I thought I would.
  2. Thanks, an endorsement coming from a long-time Rogue player means alot, I'll stick with my Sniper and see how he goes. Traditionally I haven't been a big fan of ranged classes, but I'll broaden my horizons and see how things go while secretly hoping they buff Operatives down the road(and give me another character slot to make one).
  3. I played a Rogue in WoW since Vanilla and while we did rubberband around alot I never felt severely gimped or severely overpowered in PvE. PvP sure, sometimes we were gods and sometimes we couldn't do anything, but for the most part the class felt like you could be competitive if you had skill. I would love to have a class like that in SWTOR, I have a Sith Assassin for stealth Rogue-like abilities and I have a Sentinel for dual wielding, but for some reason the stealth and knifing from the Op seems more at home, it's just a shame I won't be able to be helpful in PvE as melee. Now to decide if I should stick with the Sentinel or the Assassin for my melee fix, the Op will become a Sniper.
  4. That's really a shame, I just made an Operative because I love stealth and quicker moving stabbing gameplay, but he just seemed so much less effective than my Assassin who so far seems much more capable as a DPS Stealth class. I don't mind healing, and would like having the option, but I really want to play the Operative as a competitive melee character for PvE(with some PvP here and there). It's very disappointing that I'll have to reroll him as a Sniper to DPS. Part of me wants to keep him around and hope his Melee DPS spec gets buffed, but another part of me thinks that's wasting a character slot and I should just go Sniper and cut my losses.
  5. Even though my SW isn't too high as my Sentinel I already like his story abit more. The characters seem much better. Even though the JK has a good epic story it does seem like every planet is very similar so far. I was VERY on the fence about which to make the dual-weird DPS and which to make the tank. I ended up going with Sentinel and Jugg because I thought the Sent would look more elegant, but you're quite right it does seem to be overdoing it abit. Many of the moves I've seen look more like he's doing a solo show off routine than actually fighting, it's hard to explain but there seems to be no real sense of impact on many of his moves. I also prefer to be on the Empire slightly and figured I'd want a tank so made my SW the Jugg but I actually think I like tanking as a PT or Assassin more. I really wish I could switch them so I had the Sith Marauder and Jedi Guardian. I'm even thinking of rerolling the Sentinel to a Guardian but really don't want to go through his story again(I'm about level 30 on him). I now almost feel obligated to stay Jugg just to experience the different playstyle. I really wish I could just get another character slot and make a Sith Jugg and Marauder, just can't completely decide on which body types, I'm think 3 for Jugg 2 for Marauder.
  6. I'm pretty new to the game and have been bouncing all around with different characters trying to pin one down that I liked. I really really loved the Agent storyline but after getting my Sniper to about level 20 I was getting really frustrated with the cover mechanic and lack of movement. Because of this I rerolled him as an Operative and now I'm not sure which I like(or dislike) more. The Operative seems like a less effective version of my Sith Assassin. He does less damage than the Assassin and seems to have less survivability. . Do Operatives get more deadly as they level or will I be stuck as a healer? Do Snipers get alittle more mobility and fun as they level or will I be stuck in one place as a turret? I'm really on the fence about which one of these A/Cs to go with.
  7. Good to know I'm not the only one. I do love alts in other games but this one is really making me rethink my decisions on what race/gender/faction/AC/preferred animations for every so many of my characters. I think the only ones I'm sure about are the ones I'm not even really playing(Female Mirialan Commando and Male Human Sentinel). All the other ones I'm all over the place! Which faction to have a ranged tank? What race for the Sith Jugg? What gender for the Bounty Hunter? I've kinda decided to stick with my Jedi Sentinel just because he is fun and is the highest. He may not stay my main, heck, he may not even stay in my main faction once I decide, but I really should just go until I unlock Legacy. Around what level is that?
  8. Is Merc considered decent DPS? I am relatively new to the game and made the mistake of making both direct damage classes on the Republic side. For some reason the look of most of the Marauders I've seen hasn't appealed to me that much, for some reason I think Sentinel look better with two lightsabers. I ended up choosing Gunslinger over Sniper because I wasn't really getting into the cover mechanic much but I knew I wanted to experience the Imp story so I made him an Operative, now I'm kinda unsure. The cover mechanic to me just seemed kinda clunky and slow. Maybe it gets better as you level but the initial experience for me wasn't that amazing. That being said my Operative DPS isn't stellar either, is the Merc similar to Operative DPS or better? If the Merc does better maybe I'll make a Merc for both DPS and healing and give the Sniper's cover another shot.
  9. Thanks everyone for the replies. This is exactly to reason I want to really focus on one of them for now. I don't mind jumping around or having a bunch of alts, but I do want to settle down on one and unlock Legacy. I've kinda narrowed it down alittle, I think... Right now on Republic side my Sentinel and Gunslinger are the furthest along and most fun, I may stick with the Sentinel since his story seems alittle more epic and he's 2 levels higher. On the Empire... I'm really torn, Powertech and Juggernaut are slightly higher but the Operative is pretty close and I find all of them fun. Since I like so many classes I'll have much to keep me busy so right now end-game and PvP aren't major concerns but in other MMOs I was a big raider and I did enjoy PvP at times, so that may be a factor eventually. I've also deleted a bunch of characters once I got them off of the starter planet because I decided another race would look cooler or that I should've chosen a different gender. I think there's something wrong with me! Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice.
  10. Hey all, I played SWTOR abit when it was in beta and until recently didn't have enough time to fully commit to it. I did the friend trial about 2 weeks ago and picked up the game when it expired. During the trial period I rolled pretty much every class to get a feel for them and I'm now having the problem of liking too many of them! Out of all the ACs I've tried I'd say there are maybe 2 I don't feel too attached to, the Sorcerer/Sage and the Commando/Merc. All the other ones I'm having a ton of fun with. Right now I have all ACs sitting around levels 15-20 and just cannot decide which to focus on and get to 50. I've never really had this problem in other games. Eventually I would roll alts but there was always one that really stuck out that I could decide to be my main. So far this is what I've got and my impressions of ones I'm debating: Jedi Sentinel: A ton of fun, I like melee abit more than ranged and he feels fast paced. I like the dual-wieding and overall feel of this class Sith Juggernaut: Also alot of fun, he feels pretty powerful and his armor looks intimidating. I typically play DPS but I did tank Black Talon(as much as you can at that level) and it was fun. Imp Operative: I do like the stealth mechanic and I LOVE his story and I like the idea of sneaking around and stabbing people. Only issue sol far is that right now his DPS is alittle on the low side. Sith Assassin: Also stealthy fun, his story isn't too engaging yet but he does seem pretty strong and does have the option to tank if I ever want to. Imp PowerTech: I'm really shocked that I like this guy. I'm not as big a fan of ranged but he kinda blends ranged and melee well. He also seems strong and can tank. Rep Gunslinger: Pretty fun, he does alot of damage and his story so far is funny and interesting. The only negative I see is he's not AS mobile as some of the other classes but he's still fun Rep Vanguard: Even though she's a mirror to my BH she feels kinda different in a good way and I do like her story. So that's where I stand, my problem is I keep leveling them almost together. Every night I sit at the character select screen for a good 10-15 minutes debating which class to log in and play. I tell myself "Ok, I'm sticking with this class till 50, or atleast till I unlock Legacy." and then the next time I play I choose another character. I have 4 characters on each faction because I still haven't figured out which faction to stick with. My server(The Shadowlands) seems to have a good community on both sides, but it doesn't really matter too much to me which faction I end up. If there's anyone who has been in a similar situation or anyone that has any suggestions or advice to picking a class and sticking with it please let me know. I'm enjoying this game but my inability to stay with one character is making me crazy.
