He will cast it right AFTER the knockback and this is when you would want to taunt it off. As for the death, defeat message is not always reliable (sometimes it would show the damage it dealt to someone else rather than yourself), you got to be sure you don't have the DoT (which ticks for around 8k damage) he puts on you before Gift of the Masters and you need to be topped off after Gift of the Masters. I am assuming that you have aggro issues if you are afraid when you don't have backhand/crushing blow. Being in hybrid allows to generate more damage, therefore more threat. So this might be because of your gear and/or rotation (accuracy is vital because you cannot afford to miss an attack). Also, you lose part of your migitation from your barrier and shield. So yes, your survivability is affected by your build. As for the main topic, set bonuses are free bonuses. Why throw them away? Would you rather not wipe all night on tanks in ugly rakata look or wipe in awesome looking gear? PS: Never heard of (17/22/2) hybrid build lmao

You are supposed to tank swap once Firebrand casts "Incinerate" on the tank. That debuff reduces the target's armor by 100%. Having the tank that was on Stormcaller to swap after Incinerate will make the fight go more smoothly since he only receive regular damage from Firebrand. Hope it helps.
