I have the same problem. I entered the zone, the quest changed from the part "find the objet" to "kill the rancor", then i left. When I reentered, all but one of the monsteres were gone, including the rancor. Monsters behind the rancor are still there. I don't remember if the rancor was following me and should have returned to its location when I left the personal quest zone, but I guess all monsters following me are gone now.... so I can't finish this quest either.
