  1. Take a look at what Turbine does for its free to play games. Both Lord of the Rings Online, and Dungeons and Dragons Online, have a very good free to play program. Over the time that I have been playing the game, they have likely gotten the same amount of money from me as they would have if I were subscribing (perhaps a little more even). Why? Because I don't have to worry about not being able to play the game I paid for when I am unable to afford the subscription in a particular month. How do they do it? In LotRO's case (which would fit a little better than DDO's), each zone is purchased separately, with some available for free. Most classes are available, but those which came with expansions are purchasable. Cosmetics, some classes, zones, consumables, emotes, and various things of the like are in the store. The bones of the game, however, like races, quickbars (AHEM), and skills, are in the game. I really did want to come back and finish my class quests. I expected to have access to what I purchased. Maybe a class or two might be locked out, a few character slots less, but not near as locked down as it is now. I even would have dealt with having to unlock flashpoints. Restricting basic parts of the game like quickbars only serves to make you look money-hungry. My suggestion is that you take a look at successful free to play games, a long, serious look. What Turbine has done with those games has breathed new life into them and into their community. The games have grown. Looking at the route you're going with SWTOR, I don't really see how it changes anything. In order to truly play the game, you still have to be a subscriber, or pay a ridiculous amount of money for things that should be part of the game. You won't end up bringing in as much new blood, and thus new money, as you would otherwise.
  2. All depends on your personality, really. If you want action, yeah, it'll be boring. If you're playing a consular because you want to play the diplomat and the sagey force user, it is spot on. Lots of history and lovely jedi-mumbo-jumbo. You get to do some fun things in a couple of cutscenes that just had me grinning. Personally, I love it. Been running side by side with a knight, and have found the knight's quests to be kind of boring. So, I think it's all a matter of taste.
  3. *chuckles* Mine is Nightstar. Figured it was generic enough to be ok on most of my characters. Plus, it kind of has a sappy background. My dad got me into D&D years ago when I was in high school, and the first character I made was Aryanna Nightstar. Funny thing was, I had no idea that his favorite character's first name was Nightstar. Dad would have adored this game, and he passed away a couple years ago. So, Nightstar it is.
  4. A friend got me them for Christmas a couple years ago. You can get them at thinkgeek.com though. http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/japanfan/c50f/ Do a search for lightsaber chopsticks on google. You'll find some Dooku ones too. They really DO work best as hairsticks though. I'm great with chopsticks and these are just too slick for most foods.
  5. Won't be there. I have company and we'll be playing some Left 4 Dead. Another night though for sure! Hope it's a great success!
  6. If I can be there, I will. This Saturday afternoon/early evening I'll be out at a local Ice Festival, and will have company after that. If I can sneak some time to login and say hi though, I will be there. Most likely on Saayata, maaaybe Lillari. In general, /say is probably the best means of communication, though in large groups that can get a little awkward. I believe I read somewhere that /say is cross-faction, which is faboo. If you want a quiet conversation with a small group, there is always party chat, and there are always whispers for one on one. /say allows everyone to get in on the conversation though, and lets wanderers see what's going on so they can stop in if they like. It can just get overwhelming trying to follow all the conversations if it's really busy!
  7. Ooooh. I'd be interested to poke my nose in on this. Thursdays are my RP nights in DDO, I could easily multi-task and have both windows open I think. Thurs-Sun are usually good for me after about 8pm. Our chat channels are RPRepublic and RPEmpire, but it looks like a lot of folks are on RP as well. I just actually see people talking in the former more often.
  8. Fantastic Musketeer garb. Love it! Hmmm. This one is actually a little old, maybe two years or so. There we go, a more recent one. Maybe a year ago. Aaaand, to show off my geekyness. Yep, lightsaber chopsticks. They work much better as hairsticks.
  9. I'm with you completely. It's a pain in the rear to have to go through pages of threads to see if there is anything new on your server. I'm on a relatively quiet RP server and would like to see more going on around it. In order to build community, you need to have a place to get together. In DDO, before I even got onto the server I ended up staying on, I felt like part of the community because I was chatting with people on the server forum, getting a feel for the place. It encourages people to get to know each other, to make connections, to have server events and such. It encourages the forums to be used!
  10. For Kath Hound, I've started RPrepublic and RPempire. Both are OOC channels to meet, chat, and organize.
  11. I'll keep an eye out for ya! *grins* Should get some friendly rivalry going with Saayata.
  12. Hey all. Starting to get some activity on the channels I set up a few days ago. Republic side: /cjoin RPrepublic Imperial side: /cjoin RPempire They are both ooc channels. So we can get to know each other and coordinate RP and such. Pretty please with sugar on top, spread the word. Can't have rp without others! So, join, say hi! Get some friendly chat going. I look forward to meeting you all! I'm Lillari and Xandre on the Republic side, and Saayata and Amaile Imperial side. I'm pretty friendly, so feel free to say hi!
  13. I was thinking about setting one up, since no one had mentioned one. So, OOC channel to coordinate, meet people, and generally chat? Or com-like channel like one of the other servers has? I'd personally prefer an OOC channel, since I prefer my rp face to face, but the other could be fun too. When I get on in a few, I'll create the channels. RpRepublic & RpEmpire work, or does someone want to get fancy and give em a better name? EDIT: So, I was a little slow. I'll still make these when I log in, but feel free to use or not if you'd prefer the other.
  14. None of the above. But, Fellowship of the Golden Night member from Thelanis (Magarette, Nuadia, etc) here.
