  1. Hallo neue Star Wars Spieler! Es tut mir leid, mein Deutsche ist nicht toll, und ich habe kein Deutsche tastatur. Diese ist das Englisch forum. Oben kannst du fur Deutsch klicken. Gluck!
  2. Will the fights be inordinately difficult though? For example, after I have run a HM FP a dozen times, vastly outgear it from beating through NiM Ops, will I still struggle in those HM FPs, or be getting spiked? I have played tanks in other games, which no matter how much you outgeared the content you continued to require perfect play to be successful.
  3. I have looked over the threads and know more or less how people regard assassin tanking. Even with the extensive coverage assassin spikiness has, I still have a few questions. Is it correct that primarily in hard mode FPs the problem isn't major, and with a solid set of gear can be overcome? Or should I expect to regularly die in hard mode FPs as a result of assassin spikiness? Like, I can finish the content, but die often? Really I am interested in this question for all content. I know story mode's won't be an issue, but what expectations should I have for HM FPs, HM Ops, 8m NiM Ops and 16m Nim Ops? Please, frame answers in somewhat lay language, not "60% more likely to die than a juggernaut" when I know that could be the difference between a 2% Juggernaut chance of death to a 3.2% chance of an Assassin death. Should I always expect a death in HM FPs? Several? In HM Ops? Should I expect to have to have flawless play that stretches and digs at my imagination to complete NiM content? Thanks
  4. You seem to have mistaken me for someone else, and mistaken my intent. I have never contributed to this thread until the post you quoted. I wrote only to help describe a sometimes confused concept of probability. Still, probabilities are numbers we use as models of the world, be it the real world or a video game world. In fact, precisely because the world of SWTOR is so limited and the numbers so direct and clean (being coded unlike the real world) that probabilities are in fact a powerful tool for modeling outcomes. As you say, all the probabilities, equations and modeling in the multiverse won't add up to you not being "one-shotted" by 5 small attacks as 1 big attack given one specific instance. They will however help to understand in any given instance what chances there are of which outcomes. It is because the game uses a random number generator that this is so helpful. We can't know what number the little wheel will stop on, but the probabilities allow us to create a set of undesirable outcomes and a set of desirable outcomes. We can then decide how we will prepare for these many outcomes, and be aware of how quickly the the tide can turn. Hopefully this information will be of use to some who are interested in the mechanics of the game and how to understand them and use them to more powerfully influence their own chances of success. Your lack of interest does not make these tools less useful.
  5. This is a commonly misunderstood problem. Taken as individual chances to avoid/mitigate an attack, each attack has the same chance to be a full hit. However, the chance that you do not mitigate at least one hit becomes very small with repeated attempts. This is expressed by 1-x^n=y. 1 being 100%, x being the probability of a full hit, 'n' being the number of attempts, and finally 'y' being the chance that you fail to mitigate any hits. The greater 'n' the closer 'y' approaches 100%, but will never reach 100%. Another example I shamelessly stole from the internet: Suppose the chances you die from a skydive are 0.1. If you repeat this 10 times, the chances you die from any one of the dives is 1−(0.9)^10=0.6513 So even though the probability of dying on a specific dive does not change, by repeatedly skydiving you are increasing your overall chances of dying. So if someone says they will skydive once in 2011, the chances that they are alive (not counting other factors) in 2012 is 90%, but if someone else dives 10 times, the chances they are alive in 2012 is just 35%.
  6. Thanks for the input guys. My assassin is lvl 46 atm, and I have a Juggernaut I started who is at lvl 26 to get an idea of the play-style difference. I really enjoy the Juggernaut, but there is some ineffable quality about my Assassin that makes shelving him for any appreciable amount of time impossible. Maybe I am just a glutton for punishment. So, starting out with the 55 HM FPs, what should I be focusing on for gear? I have seen that the 66 crafted are better than the 69s I am going to see dropping initially anyway, so should I focus on acquiring those first to mitigate (see what I did there?) my difficulty entering HM FPs?
  7. Ok, so I have been following the threads lately about Shadow/Assassin spikyness, and I understand that in all end-game content they are more spiky than guardians/VGs. However, at which content tier does this cause a significant problem? For example, guardians and VGs aside, are Shadows in isolation able to tank HM Flashpoints or HM Ops? If Shadows were the ONLY tank, what would that look like (outside of NiM). Most of the threads I see are in regard to end-game progression such as NiM Ops. I have seen a number of threads where folks have said that outside of any NiM difficulty Shadows are fine (granted spikier than their counterparts, but perfectly viable without having a perfect itemization, perfect execution, perfect healers and perfect co-tank). So, is that accurate? I am drawing close to 55 on my Assassin; will I find myself pulling out my hair, and questioning why tanking is so difficult? Or will I, with appropriate amounts of effort in itemization and learning the fights, be able to continue forward relatively unhindered by shadow tanking issues outlined in these threads? Finally, if the case is that shadows are...ahem..."fine" until NiM Ops, what can I do if I wish to sintank those for my guild as well. Simply outgear the content? Struggle regardless of my efforts? Use a certain kind of build or itemization which is overall sub-optimal but will allow me to progress and -somewhat- bypass sintank issues? Thanks any and all who take time to share their perspectives, but please stick to the facts. All the rhetoric that gets thrown around in these discussions often distracts from clear answers and clean, honest opinion.
  8. Useful in small forums (see what I did there?). Just popping in to say that I am still leveling an assassin tank, but coming from WoW I had done a lot of theorycrafting and work on min/maxing tanks from Vanilla up through MoP. I have found you, Kitru and Keyboardninja, to have a refreshing and earnest theorycrafting and sharing style. I'm not as mathematically inclined to build and test models, but do not have trouble following the explanations you provide around your models. In addition, you provide your methodology, so if I really want to take an afternoon (ya its that bad for me) to slog through it, I can. I rarely encounter folks so willing to share, and so able to be lucid and concise. Thanks for your contributions.
  9. Do you hear yourself? Those people, in reality, are your peers. The disenfranchised are, by definition, lacking something. Whether that be maturity, experience, money, emotional control, etc. It's hardly appropriate to cast a critical eye over them. If you truly believe that they need something which they are lacking then take it upon yourself to attempt to educate them in a respectful, patient way. Be glad that your faculties serve you so well. While this is sometimes true, what I am most amazed by is this: that a staggering number of people who are apparently offended by posts they would describe as whiny, ridiculous, pointless, or the pathetic mewlings of the "frothing rabble" whom apparently everyone knows are "idiots," STILL read those posts. Its like going to a rave and being offended when someone offers you alcohol, or going to the doctor and being offended when he asks you to remove your shirt. You knew what to expect when you went there. And if you didn't, then learn from your mistake and avoid these things that offend you. These posts usually have titles which are dead giveaways like "SLICNG CHANGE IS STOOPID, FIX OR QUIT" or maybe "OPRETAVIE ARE OP." Those folks who don't deal with disappointment and frustration as well as you all apparently do, these posts are cathartic and help them feel a little relieved. Just like you they love the game and want it to work well. Adopting a superior attitude to cast a blanket of negative connotation does not make you interesting, and what you posted has little relevance to the discussion. WY U SO BAD?? ZOMG.
  10. The truth is, most people in the country (and probably many who play this game) aren't amazing at making themselves well-understood, or expressing themselves in clear ways. Does that mean their viewpoint should be disregarded? Because that is what the OP claims and what you seem to be supporting. Its a service. We pay for it. We can demand a quality product or choose not to pay for it. A large part of the community is telling Bioware that if their product doesn't pick up, they will stop paying for it. Their inability (or choice, who knows?) to express themselves in a way which does not meet with your standard has nothing to do with their perspective and viewpoint being recognized. Nor does their choice of expression have anything to do with the validity of their argument. I doubt anyone doesn't have problems with the game's bugs, instability, or other hair-pulling frustrations. How dare you deign to criticize people for sharing their feelings in the way in which they are most comfortable? One of the great things faceless internet forums has brought us is the ability to share in immature, ridiculous, or any other kind of attention-grabbing way without having to suffer the same kind of social ridicule we would if we conducted the same behavior with our neighbors. What's more one could even make the argument that it takes behavior exactly like this to even get anyone to pay attention to their viewpoints. I know from experience that well-thought out and presented arguments are not taken seriously very often. And if you want to be noticed in the bustling, confusing, and oft-changing internet community you have to make a splash/stink/to-do/hubbub etc. Maybe it's not the most dignified way to make an argument, but it is the best way to ensure your ideas are heard. If I want to convince one person I speak quietly with well-thought out arguments. If I have to reach an entire crowd I start yelling in clipped language that is straight to the point. How this can be difficult to understand escapes me.
  11. OP, just some food for thought. You compare the player base to spoiled children and then equate Bioware to the parents? Bioware is a business, not the guardian of the player base. Ridiculously false analogy, because Bioware in no way takes responsibility for the rearing or public displays of the player base, as a parent would for a child. Weird choice, really. Second, Bioware is a company offering a product that they presented in a particular light. When Bioware gave a release date, and followed through, they were claiming "Our game is ready, come enjoy it...for money!" Of course players were excited and quickly paid. The truth, however, is that the game was not as polished as one could hope. While the argument has been put forward that "all" MMOs have had similar problems, and so Bioware shouldn't be judged too harshly, the truth is that precisely because so many MMOs have experienced similar difficulty that SWTOR should have done better. The list of problems can be researched as easily as you did. The number of patches required, common problems, etc. Given how many MMOs have existed and been thoroughly fleshed out and taken apart and studied from every direction till Ragnarok, Bioware should have been able to provide a more polished product out the gate. Customers know this, and so when the product that was advertised, and that they have paid for, isn't up to snuff...they complain. Third, they complain on the FORUMS. The very place where players are invited to come and share their thoughts, feelings, angst and anger. You're claim that the player base who is upset with these items should not complain on the forums is like getting upset that someone filled a comment box at Taco Bell to say "Your tacos were awful, honestly thought it was rat meat." Why have a comment card? Why have game forums? It's not as though players are protesting outside the Bioware offices, or attempting to have LucasArts shut the whole project down. They are voicing their complaints in the only real way they can be sure it will be heard by Bioware; the company's forum. Finally; the arrogance! This adopting of a superior attitude because you are apparently more willing to accept manure when steak was promised. Congratulations on having small expectations and lacking the strength of character to raise a cry alongside you're betters. The only conclusion that I can come to is that you think this will buy you brownie points with the community, with Bioware, or that your post will assure others of your intellectual. emotional, and ethical superiority. Given this, you are clearly a despicable boot-licker of the worst kind. I honestly can't imagine that you thought your little diatribe would result in anything but backlash from the community. I really hope you are a young person, because naivete on this scale would be tragic in an adult.
  12. Guys, this is the first push of a brand new game. There are schematics out there better than what the vendor offers. Also, moving forward the vendor won't offer items that are so powerful. Right now they are creating a base-line as their entire community starts the game. Crafting has a certain drop rate, which in many cases is low, and as such is too rare and under-used by max level players at this point to support the gearing required for hardmode OPS. If the vendors weren't selling that high level gear do you think that you or many of your friends would be geared for hardmodes? As more people start crafting more seriously and the few rare schematics begin to trickle out into populations, so that you can realistically find them in a reasonable amount of time, the vendor gear will begin to fall behind. Of course this is with content patches etc. TL->DR: New game is new, all the parts take time to balance out.
  13. It's a 5% damage reduction, not a 5% accuracy debuff. Powertechs get the accuracy debuff with "Oil Slick," a 20% reduction. The Dark Charge buff reduces incoming damage by 5%. On average, all things being equal, and not counting buffs, Assassins have roughly 5% higher avoidance, but also higher shields, and absorption. They are more likely to dodge an attack, AS A BASE VALUE, but also more likely to take less damage from a connecting attack. Summary: Assassin Tanks will tank your face off.
