  1. I don't think it's specifically Yoda's teaching, but it's one that was generally taught by all the Jedi Master's in his era. You're right though, in earlier times it was seen as more acceptable for Jedi to have romantic relationships and even marry and have children, depending on how far back you go
  2. Glad someone brought this up... if you haven't read the Tales of the Jedi: Redemption series of comics about Ulic Qel-Droma, most definitely treat yourself to it if you at all can. It's really the only story in Star Wars that has consistently moved me (and this is quite a feat). He's the tragic and unassuming figure, which is so central to the spirit of Star Wars; the story really evokes a remarkable pathos to the fallen hero who is turned against his friends, defeated, broken, but ultimately at least partially redeemed.
  3. There's been lots of interpretations of the nature of the force throughout Star Wars lore... though I think your explanation is pretty similar to what ol GL would say. I'm not hardcore into canon though... I'm always open to seeing where they go with an alternate interpretation of it. Though I wouldn't be surprised if this "balancing act" of the force gets characterized as futile or too dangerous (thus validating the view from the movies), and is instead used as a catalyst for the eventual split leading to the first of the Force Wars.
  4. That's also what Dave Filoni, director for the Clone Wars animated cartoon, said: "I can specifically remember being in the theater during The Phantom Menace and watching Darth Maul ... split apart, and I literally thought, 'Ha ha ha, that's so no one can bring him back to life.' Because Boba Fett could come out of that sarlacc pit a hundred different times and a hundred different ways, and I bet you George never intended that to happen." I've said it once before and I'll say it again: guess he has to eat his own words now Star Wars, especially the EU, became increasingly fantasy-based despite the prequel efforts to "sci-fi it up" with talk of midichlorians and some such. And I mean, EU writers have taken pretty huge creative liberties in the past with disregarding any kind of realistic cohesiveness of plot in favor of more of a blank slate approach where anything can happen (even if the result can end up coming off as incredibly contrived). But that's part of the beauty of it. It's like a soap opera where the most popular characters always manage to come back for one last story arc... the principle is the same. It's entertaining, and I for one am looking forward to seeing how they explain and integrate Darth Maul into the story again.
  5. Honestly, I'm excited for this. And the interview/behind the scenes vid only did more to stoke that feeling! Sure, it's one of those awkwardly obvious plot devices where a character who was very clearly supposed to remain dead, rises from the grave (most people attribute this phenomenon to the characters popularity... I can't speak to that, but I did read that George Lucas ordered it himself) but I think it will create an interesting and deep enough situation to remain thoroughly enjoyable. Looking forward to seeing what happens in the finale!
  6. As much as I'm not really fond of Grievous as a character (there are so many others I'd be tempted to argue a case for out of sheer fanboyism) I really think that he is the most destructive non-force using character out there, as depicted both in the movies and beyond. HOWEVER, though he could probably take on the most Jedi and other elite forces at once and still wreck havoc, I don't think he'd win in a straight up 1v1 fight with many of Star Wars' more crafty fighters. His fights tend to play in the sequence of "create spinning saber wall and stalk forward, clash a few times, get out-maneuvered and take a few hits, then create some kind of diversion and run away"
  7. Haha, so basically if they just kept them strictly in this new era. Does anyone know if ol GL's problem was with Wookie Jedi, or Wookie force users in general? That he famously vetoed Obsidian's plan to make Hanharr able to become a dark side force sensitive in KotOR II, suggests that he was against Wookie's with Force Push/Lightning and lightsabers in general Though I can sort of see his point. "Master Jedi, if you will kindly oversee the introductory diplomatic ceremony, w-" "RRrooowrrrworrrrowowwwwWWWWWR!" .
  8. Not only that, but the Tho Yor (the pyramid ships that picked up the Dai Bendu monks and various tribes/races) also picked up the Wookies as a race to transport to Tython... now I could be wrong, but I got the impression that these were all supposed to be force-sensitive races, opening up the possibility of many Wookie Jedi (or "Je'Daii"). Though I suppose the Wookies could always undergo some event that deprives them of the ability to channel the force, Rakata-style. But moving on, what does everyone think of the new setting so far? Personally I'm thoroughly enjoying it, even as a EU lore fiend (though IGN wasn't so impressed). I like how they seem to be settling down even more towards a fantasy-themed aspect of Star Wars, in the dress, the names, the general feel of it. It's not the "Star Wars" we all know and have grown to love, but it has it's own personality and I'm liking it.
  9. "How could Darth Maul be alive?" Well, he WAS cut in half. However, Dave Filoni, director for the Clone Wars animated cartoon, had this to say: "I can specifically remember being in the theater during The Phantom Menace and watching Darth Maul ... split apart, and I literally thought, 'Ha ha ha, that's so no one can bring him back to life.' Because Boba Fett could come out of that sarlacc pit a hundred different times and a hundred different ways, and I bet you George never intended that to happen." Well, apparently he's got to eat his words. (especially considering that Darth Maul is being brought back on the specific instructions of George Lucas) http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/10/12/star-wars-clone-wars-darth-maul/
  10. Great comics! Keep 'em coming! One idea: do one that features a class companion standing on a counter while you're browsing wares at a vendor. Or milling about aimlessly at the ledge when you step onto an elevator. Little things like that, that companions do and people notice but don't really talk about!
  11. Please, please, not this. Capital worlds, yeah maybe. But Tatooine? Alderaan? These planets are a pain to get through as it is, nevermind doing it for the 5th or 6th time.
  12. Even allowing time for bugs to be ironed out, please tell me there is more to it than this
  13. I disliked this change too at first... Especially since I tend to change my hotkeys in mid pvp to better react to specific situations (ie changing my + button hotkey by my mouse hand from the interrupt skill to the throw huttball ability) and then next thing I knew, I had totally scrambled my skill bar because I didn't know the drag and drop system had changed. So I'm standing there like an idiot trying to figure it out, and get killed. Very annoying. However, later on while rearranging many stacks of crafting materials in my inventory, I noticed the new system, once you're used to it, is better for moving many things around quickly. Even so, I find the old drag and drop method more intuitive, and just like it better. Additionally, as others have said, things that aren't broken being "fixed" (and essentially being downgraded to be less user friendly) is a big concern for me. I hope it doesn't become a common practice.
  14. ^ Yup, that's pretty much what led me here. Still, interesting ideas.... my favorites so far: Kashyyk Onderon Geonosis Ryloth Felucia Dantooine No Endor or Yavin IV moons please... they don't fit the timeline (Endor hasn't been discovered yet, Yavin IV could have a storyline but it is supposed to be forgotten I think... though fighting Massassi through old Sith ruins would be cool I admit.)
  15. That's one thing that crossed my mind too, yeah. I don't see limiting the length as a good solution though, and if people have a preference option to turn them off it sort of defeats the purpose as well. Hmm. I think it'd work fine if there weren't already ridiculously long titles. Maybe if only certain titles were usable that way, and those ones happened to be the shorter ones? Also, another solution to the terribly long name problem is, maybe you could swap a title suffix in place of the character surname on your nameplate, rather than in addition to it. If they did that, I think implementing it might be worth it
