  1. Just curious as to the state of the Republic side PvP on the Bastion? primarily in warzones, but any input is welcome.

You make a very valid point. I'll probably just abandon the node and go for damage / kills next time. Typically though, of the pvp i have experienced so far, if you are down that far, it's over. Team work breaks down and people just try to top damage, so much so that they don't even fight near nodes. The only teams I've been in that have turned the entire game around to win from a seemingly impossible situation are Republic teams. I don't know what it is. But anyway, in a poetic turn off events, the game after the one i described, a huttball match, i played the objective again. Ball runner. Me and this other assassin just dominated. I would run it 3/4 of the way with the sin cc'n people, until i get to the downward ramps to the end zone, where each time every opposing player there would jump on me, ignoring the other sin who's run to the end zone for a quick pass from me for a touch down. The score is 3-0 when the douche that started giving me hell after the first game, starts blaming his team (my opposing team) losing on having "useless players" from my guild. I quickly let him know that i was from my guild and i was his team's opposing ball runner... He shut up pretty quick, and his team seemed to quickly give up after that exchange Final result 6-0. medals earned by me and my fellow ball runner. 15 and 16 respectively.

So i was in a novare coast (is that what it's called?) match last night, the one with the 3 nodes. I was part of a losing team and spent the game as the sole defender of our only node. Now my node was not attacked once so my score sheet was pretty much 0's except for the defence medals and my objective score. We lost hard, 98-0 and after the game they saw my score, or lack thereof, and just unleashed on me. Well 3 or 4 did anyway. Should i have done more? I figured i was playing objectively and at least did my job. I didn't particularly want to leave the node undefended. Another assassin did come to the node and stood around for about 10 seconds or so, and i suppose i could've left it to him, but i figure knowing my luck he'll run off after i run off and we'll be defenceless...
  4. Teclado's post was a good insight into the sage, and a small insight into the commando. The only thing i would add is that you should play the class you like the idea and style/look of, regardless of being good or not in pvp. Reason being that in mmos balance can be quick to change, the class you choose that is the more powerful one now, but not necessarily your preferred style, may become the weaker of the two. I played another popular mmo where for a long time my prefered class was considered the weakest in pvp as dps. But i loved the style and the look of the gear, and even the rare proc based burst damage it had. The class was considered so bad that people would stop and inspect my geared out toon, then go out of their way to whisper me telling me how bad the class was and mocking me for playing it. Then a patch for the game came out that focused on making my class balanced, but what it really did was make those of us who geared up a laughable class insanely over powered. The day after the ppatch was released i easily fought 6 opponents solo, at the same time and ended the fight with half health... Point of the story... TThings change. Play what you love and be proud of it
  5. Qyzen is actually my prefered first companion on the Republic side. And he had to grow on me. Corso for the smuggler and Aric for the trooper are so 'meh', and I'm sure a lot of people love the little droid the jedi knights get, but all i remember of him is having him on my jedi when i first started playing, when the game first came out, and i would leap to a mob, and the little **** would grapple hook the mob back to him so I'd have to run back like a fool... Now my friend who plays a jedi now says he doesn't do that any more, but still... It's enough to make a jedi want to give in to the dark side just to crush that smug little canister body of his! The way i play with my shadow suits qyzen. As a shadow who loves the challenge of battle and has a real black and white view of the dark side... That those who have fallen to far to the dark side have to be killed, kind of like the star wars wiki description of the shadow. So this leads me to not be entirely light sided in game, but I'm constantly getting affection from qyzen that it makes him easy to like. I just got tharan who i instantly like for his quirkiness, but playing the way i do, almost every convo choice i make scores me a -1 with him... Ugh. Can't win either way...
  6. This was a great and helpful post. Thank you very much. You've Given me a lot to consider. I did look into the crew sskill bonuses that the consular's companions have compared to the other classes companions. They are pretty sucky, but it isn't exactly a deal breaker or anything . You've made a hell of a case in favour of cybertech, which i am planning to take on my smuggler character, and i don't really see the point in taking it on both toons. It does look like the way to go in the current state of the game. I really enjoy crafting in this game, but i just get increasingly bored with biochem as i level it. And i have massed a pile of pvp meds and stims from doing the daily and weekly pvp quests, so I'm a little hesitant to continue with biochem. I'm actually leaning towards archaeology, scavenging and slicing now, just to gather materials and make money while i level, since i can't seem to make up my bloody mind. I really appreciate the info though!
  7. I appreciate the reply. I've considered cybertech already and have decided i would do that on a smuggler that I've made. I'm more interested in opinions of biochem, artifice and i suppose synthweavings usefulness overall and for pvp. Though the 3 gathering skills does sound appealing.
  8. So i just came back after a year or so, and decided to start fresh. I made a jedi shadow and my focus is likely to be pvp, warzones and the like, at end game. When i first played, it was all about biochem. Reusable stims and med packs were considered the best way to go for any pvper, but after a small amount of asking around in game, and research online, apparently the best med packs you can make with biochem fall way short of the pvp med packs you can get. So is it true that biochem isn't the crew skill to go aany more? If not, what's the better crew skills for a shadow looking to pvp? I have been considering artifice, but it's not for any stat benefits. More to just fit in with a jedi story wise, and make my own crystals. Is artifice any good? Edit: one thing I should add is i am interested in making a few toons and having them all sync together crew skill wise...
  9. Why do people say the inquisitor story is good, and the consular is the worst? I've made both an assassin and shadow, and i don't think I've experienced a more bland story than the inquisitor one. Inquisitor Spoilers.... I played the inquisitor up to when zash betrays you and gets trapped in khem. But artefact collecting? People enjoy that?! If it weren't for being able to kill sith lords as part of the power struggle within the ranks, i would've dropped the character sooner, but that doesn't happen nearly as much as it should. I made a shadow because of how boring the inquisitor was, even though i made the assassin fearing how boring the consular was said to be, and the first planet was boring as sin. But after about half way through coruscant, i found it really engaging, and by nar shadarr, you actually feel like a jedi and I'm finding myself getting right into it... Inquisitor is the most underwhelming story so far, and I've played the bounty hunter and trooper stories. Both of which have commonly referred to as boring)
  10. this is a repost from the assassin forums. Just wanted to get both points of view... Returning player here, looking to level and Pvp my A** off. I have been watching a few videos on youtube featuring Assassins (shadows) , and a few of them have the star play in Darkness spec (kinetic). now please forgive the "noobness" of my questions, but... 1: isn't darkness (kinetic) the assassins (shadows) tanking spec? how does it fair in pvp these days? does it have killing potential, or is it all just for defence and node-holding, and huttball running? 2: How are assassins (shadows) in pvp, in general? are they in a good place? overpowered? underpowered? 3: What are the preferred specs of assassin (shadow) players these days? Thanks people
