  1. I'm lazy so I just quote myself Anyways, closed beta reports have said that they improved animations and all on the latest build. The devs always said that they were placeholders, too. I don't mean that I believe it all, but it has me on the fence and waiting for the final outcome. In any case, this is going a bit off topic haha. Let's just say that we all seem to agree that the quests there are nice, and that it would be awesome if SWTOR would take note of it. Cheers.
  2. Yeah, and that's the problem. I saw it first hand in TSW beta, in the chat (I closed the general chat for what some players were saying/spamming, as I was thinking "wow, just wow"). Most people are spoiled, and don't like that kind of games. Heck, we have the example here with "spacebarrers", no patience at all, just the will to kill everything that is red and reach max level ASAP, then grind the same old content 92384 times to fuel the gear's mouse wheel. They don't really like changes, or to be challenged by content that they would see as something that is "wasting their time". You read my mind, I see TSW being another EvE (if Funcom doesn't screw it somehow), as there's a lot of people that really like FUN games. That doesn't mean that it's not successful, but just that it caters to a relatively small part of the total MMO population. Mainstream MMOs, on the other hand, try to cater to as many people as possible (that's why they try to copy WoW one way or another). Like I comented early, SWTOR tries to do this too, and many changes came during the beta because of that, reducing the game's complexity. I hope that this clears up what I meant Cheers.
  3. Read Uruare's post, there you have an example. If you need further examples of how to do it differently or see if it can actually be done, by all means, get a beta key for The Secret World's next weekend and play it for a while (just for the quests). Anyways, I still maintain my opinion that most MMO players don't like to think (or read, or learn...), so I guess that we'll never see this in any "mainstream" MMO. Intelligent games cater to a niche. Cheers.
  4. I agree. I'm not buying it right now exactly for those reasons, coupled with the sub & cash shop duo and the fact that I have the feeling that it will go the "AoC way". But even if it's not an MMO that I would buy right away, I found the quests to be pretty good and interesting and I think that that's something that should be "copied" by other MMORPGs. And heck, if you ask me about my perfect MMO I would say that it would be the one with Tera's animations, TSW's story and quest variety with a SWTOR twist on them (conversation choices and PC's VO), Guild Wars 2's world and quest handling (AKA dynamic), Tera and GW2's mixed combat gameplay, TBC WoW's raids, GW's PvP... Yeah, keep dreaming, hahahaha. Cheers.
  5. I agree. You don't even know how much I agree to this post. I was able to test The Secret World this last weekend and, while the game has many flaws (in my opinion), I really enjoyed the quests there. Specially the investigation ones. However, most MMO players don't even tolerate this kind of quests that make you (God forbid!) think. Anyways, having more of those quests for variety's sake is what I expected on SWTOR since the very start, instead of the "kill, kill 'em all!" (yeah, a jedi always killing everything that crosses his/her path, makes perfect sense...) or "pick/use X" missions that we have right now mostly. It doesn't require any amazing new tech or complex coding, it can (and could) be done with the tools that the game already uses. Cheers.

  7. It could be worse. You could have made some names from scratch (and triple checked them on Google et al. just in case) and still lose them. It has happened to me. And yes, I tried to reserve them once I knew what would probably be my destination server (sorry, I wasn't going to create placeholders on ALL servers two weeks ago and add to the problem myself, thanks, not that I should have to do that anyways). Well, I had to change them and that's all, but that doesn't mean that I'm not disappointed on how the name conflicts have been handled. On a side note, I could hold my legacy, luckily. Cheers.
  8. Ugh... Maybe I misunderstood it or it's a typo... I hope. Regarding the topic, I bet that's it's just going to be WoW-like RMTs. That is, pets, transfers, renames, race, sex and appearance changes (complete, not barber shop like), etc. Cheers.
  9. It has a lot to do with it. As some people have said, they don't have more character slots, or they have already rolled them on different servers. And even if they had, forcing someone to roll another character to get a companion on the first one is crap. Some people like to play just one faction, or to play just their main. However, in that case, if they don't play a character from the opposite faction THAT character is at a disadvantage and loses content (something that you didn't lose when you only had T7 and Kira, because you could still get the rest of your companions by playing your sentinel). It's their choice, yeah, but it was also their choice to lose a companion with the old system. Back in the day (beta), you were able to get rid of some of your companions if you wanted to. It was your choice, and there was no way to make a mistake (unless you didn't know to read) and lose them. BioWare changed it because they said that losing a companion could gimp people. You could always level an alt and use it's companions to make for it, as you'll have to if you want to get HK-51 if those requirements are true, but they chose to remove that feature so that everyone could have the same number of companions in any character. As you see, even if it's not exactly the same, there's more logic in that reasoning than what you seem to think. If they want to make it hard to get HK-51, I'll really like it. However, there's better ways to make it hard without forcing you to play a character that you don't want to. Cheers.
  10. I'm not new to MMOs, as the first quoted seem to suggest. When something like this happens and players are forced to join another server (as it's the case here, unless people want to stay on a dead server, which I doubt anyone would) there's usually a priority on who holds the name in case of conflict. It usually goes to the higher level character (that's why I used the level 1 example), and if they're both the same level it goes the the one with more played time. Trust me, it's almost impossible for someone to have the same amount of played time as you, unless you count just in hours. Now tell me that that's not more fair than screwing someone with a level 50 char over an unused level 1 char (it's an example, just in case you don't get it again). Some people like their character names, be it because it links them to other games, for RP reasons, or whatever. In any case, you can't say that because it doesn't matter to you it shouldn't matter to anyone. As I've explained there's more fair ways of solving naming conflicts, and no one would complain in those situations. Cheers.

If that's finally true and you need characters on both factions on the same server if you want to acquire that companion, it would mean that when they removed the ability to get rid of some of your companions "because it gimped the players who did it" they were wrong, right? Quite a contradiction there, and I hope that that pre-requisite won't be needed. Cheers.
  12. Yeah, because we're at fault that some spoiled brats demanded more servers at launch. It makes perfect sense to have to change your guild/character/legacy name because there's already a level 1 character, for example, with said name in your pre-assigned destination server. Screw all those that believed in the future of the game, pre-ordered it, got into Early Access and tried to get their desired names. They have no right to complain at all, how dare they! Really... Cheers.
  13. Thanks for the clarification, Joveth, but what about our concerns regarding guild/character/legacy names? I know that we're not "forced" to transfer, but you'll agree that we want to be able to play with more people, so it could be considered that we can really be forced to do so if we want to keep playing. Knowing this, it's not good if you end losing any of your names because of a random policy even after having been here since the first day. Cheers.
  14. It's better to do something right even if it takes longer that doing something quick and screw everyone. Didn't we learn anything from the hurries for getting more servers? Anyways, they've got plenty of time to think something better. Cheers.
