  1. Many of us have been waiting most of the year now for paid character transfers, yet, despite the fact that we KNOW there is a character transfer system, BW/EA continues to give zero priority to giving us the ability to correct a problem that resulted from their having too many servers in the first place. They're more concerned about nickel-and-diming people who can't or won't pay to play, than they are about getting more money from those of us who not only subscribe, but ARE WILLING TO PAY to be able to move our lonely, forgotten characters from whatever server they wound up on, to whatever server the toons we re-rolled to get off of a dead server ended up on. Well, if the only people they're concerned about getting money from are the F2P community, then maybe those of us who've been waiting for paid character transfers should join the F2Pers. Perhaps then we'll get some service.
  2. It would be REALLY NICE if, when the group finder queue pops, you'd get an AUDIBLE notification, so that if, for example, you're taking a leak, talking to your girlfriend (or boyfriend), putting the kids to bed, or whatever, you don't miss your chance, and have to wait ANOTHER hour or two.
  3. Oh, and on a related note, here's another suggestion to allow 16 character slots per server, instead of only 8.
  4. When searching the Galactic Trade Network for schematics, we should be able to filter out schematics we can't use (either because of level or because we already know them) - optionally, of course, in case we're buying a schematic for an alt or a friend.
  5. My only concern about married companions in the family tree is that you're assuming all of a character's children are the offspring of the married companion. My first toon, a juggy, married Vette, and they've got a daughter, but he also has a daughter and a son with Jaesa. How do you propose linking that in a family tree that supports married companions?
  6. I have a character, Cör, who is the "father" of my legacy. So far, he's got a daughter with Vette, a daughter and a son with Jaesa, and a granddaughter from Vette's daughter. Unfortunately, I'm just not especially thrilled with Cör, and since we're limited to eight characters per server, I'm considering deleting him. It's great that I'd retain any legacy unlocks associated with the character if I decided to delete him, but as the "father" character, it would be nice if I had the option whether or not to have him deleted from the "family tree."
  7. Not even a standard merge, but an OPTIONAL merge. What about the people who elect not to transfer? Or the people with toons on the "select servers" who are currently unsubbed? Seriously, it's an example of a fuster-cluck at its finest.
  8. To clarify my standing, I should add something I neglected to include in my original post: I'm HAPPY that BioWare is FINALLY addressing the server population issue, and I'm HAPPY that they're addressing the needs of those people who were SO dedicated to their dead server that, knowing that their server was dead, and with no announcement (until somewhat recently) that they might be able to transfer to a more populous server, that they just continued playing on the same dead server. I think it's GREAT that they're taking care of one segment of their subscriber base. What pisses me off is that it appears, based on their own official statements so far, that those of us who were proactive enough to REALIZE that our servers were dead, and, not holding out hope for character transfers or server merges, decided to CUT OUR LOSSES and re-roll on more populous servers, are either NOT going to be able to bring our orphaned characters into our new fold at all (unless we're particularly lucky - which I won't be, since my original server was PvP, and my new server is PvE), or, IF they eventually open up the process to allow more choice in the transfer destination, we'll likely have to PAY to remedy what was BioWare's ****-up in the first place. There's a huge difference between transferring servers because you've got a friend (or friends) on a different server (yeah, make me pay for it), and transferring servers to bring your orphaned character(s) to join the character(s) you had to roll on a new server in order to actually experience the game as an MMO (no, don't make ME PAY to fix YOUR MISTAKES).
  9. I gave up on SoAP long before I heard that they were actually planning on making character transfers a reality, because **I wanted to play on a server with other people,** not, as you seem to believe, because I'd heard transfers were coming, and figured I'd just move my toon(s) later. It's not my fault, nor any other player's fault, that BioWare GROSSLY overestimated their drawing power with this game, provided WAY too many servers to begin with, then gave us a game that would lose, what, about a fourth? of its subs within the first six months. Am I entitled to something? F**k yes! For $60 up front, and an additional $15/month, I'm ENTITLED to play the MMORPG I paid for, not a glorified single-player game where you have to spam general chat for an hour if you want to do a [HEROIC 4] mission, and heaven forbid you should want to actually do OPS! A friend suggested that if EVE Online can manage their 400k subs on one server, then why couldn't SW:TOR be hosted on just a handful of servers. Now, while I like that idea, I realize that EVE gets away with it because they've got 7500ish different star systems, with multiple planets, moons, and space stations in each system. You're not going to have the system lag of having 500 people in the same place as you at the same time. I'm not suggesting they should move the entire SW:TOR subscriber base onto a handful of servers, as my friend (and others, I'm sure) think they should, because I don't wanna fry my computer trying to zone into Imperial Fleet when there are 300 other people there already, but I don't think opening character transfer up to something a little more than "people on these 10 servers MAY transfer their toons to THESE 10, pre-determined servers, if they so desire" is going to kill the system.
  10. So... I think we pretty much all agree that BioWare had way too many servers to begin with (and still has). People were getting upset that their servers were dying, because low population means nobody to group with, nobody to craft the things you need, and nobody to buy your crap, either in person or through the Galactic Trade Network. Then we got a ray of hope: BioWare announced that in addition to developing the 1.3 patch, they were working on enabling character transfers. There were few details, so speculation ran rampant, but at least it seemed that those of us who'd left characters behind on dead servers might be able to unite one or more of those toons with the toon(s) we'd re-rolled on servers WITH AN ACTUAL POPULATION. For my own part, I speculated that character transfers would cost us, although maybe, with a little luck, we'd get our first transfer free. Regardless, I continued attempting to sell all my crap via GTN on my old server (Sword of Ajunta Pall), so that if and when I could bring a toon to the new server, I could bring everything on one character. Then, as details begin to surface, we find that while, yes, character transfers will be free (for now), it's less a matter of desired character transfer, and more like optional server merges, with "select" origin servers having the option to move to "select" destination servers, and not even a choice of which server to move to. BioWare's idea, as they put it, is to "balance" the server population, and I guess hope that their upcoming LFG tool handles the rest of the grouping complaints. Oh, yay, that's all well and good, but moving a little bit of population among "select" servers doesn't really address the problem of having no population to craft sh*t for you, or buy the sh*t you're trying to sell, and it outright SCREWS anyone who had dreams of bringing their abandoned, orphaned toons into their new, populated server's fold. I've only got ONE level 50, had a level 21, and have a level 12, with only a level 6 legacy, on my old (deceased) server, and **I'M** upset about the state of affairs; I can't begin to imagine how it feels for someone with two, or four, or eight level 50s, with a legacy level in the 20s or 30s. Of course, BioWare does give us the [probably false] hope that down the line, they MAY eventually allow more open character transfers. The catch? As I expected, we'll likely have to pay for it. So, BioWare throws way too many servers at us in the first place, and then THEY prove, through a game that many seem to feel lacks much of an endgame, unable to retain active subscriptions, and after months of US paying the price in gameplay terms (no one to group with, no one to craft for us, no one to buy our sh*t), we're ALSO going to have to pay the price monetarily, if we wish to salvage the work we put into characters and legacies on servers that died through no fault of our own? Sorry, BioWare, but I've gotta give you a big, glaring "F" on this test.
  11. I have to add my vote to the request for more character slots per server, even if that means reducing the overall limit across all servers (as some have suggested). 1) As has been frequently mentioned, this allows players to get the best use out of their server-bound Legacy story. 2) Honestly, how many players actually create characters spanning THAT MANY servers anyway? 3) With the increasing trend of players re-rolling on the few servers that actually have a population, and the upcoming ability to do server transfers in the 1.3 patch, how many servers are there really going to be anyway, when all is said and done? On the American side alone, it appears that population is already consolidating to a mere handful of servers.
  12. It's easy: HUMANS ARE, BY NATURE, CORRUPT. In the real world, some people actually try to overcome their corrupt, lazy, self-serving tendencies. If you haven't noticed, however, most people turn into instant a**hole the moment they go online, so it's to be expected that a video game makes the perfect outlet for someone's dark side. Besides, if you think everyone's so enamored with the light side in real life (or is supposed to be), then why do you see about 10x more people dressed as Vader than as a jedi every Halloween?
