  1. Contrary Opinion: PvP is broke - in general.

wait until feburary. they're rebalancing the classes
  3. Yes I do think its okay, for the reasons stated in my previous post. You don't have to grind FPs for gear, but the "optimal" way to gear is - to grind FPs. Its not like its a big deal. As previously stated - you only have to grind one 306 set, ever. Then you can use tech fragments to buy class specific 306 gear and get your base sets. Use the spoils of war vendor. If you can't be bothered to do this - the simple fact of the matter is its laziness. I don't pve either and I had to spend two weeks grinding my first 306 set. Only played Hammer Station. It was boring but it needed grinded so I put the effort in and now all my pubside chars are geared, and several in sets, from the proceeds of nothing but pvp - so pvp does work fine to gear just not on the initial climb to 306. Your problem is - "Right now I am grinding PVP dailies and weeklies so I can optimize my gear on my main. Even running all three tank specs but only itemizing on one of them it’s taking forever." You're gearing with the wrong method, and apparently pissing yourself off. Stop slacking and get in the activity finder. We all had to do it.
  4. That's hilarious that its been broke for nearly a month or more. Still no acknowledgement. Whoever that was should be fired, considering "no reports" is false. There's a thread on the forums
  5. Do you know what perspective I've not heard yet, and also - the reason this system is perfect. Like, does everyone recall 5.0? Did you actually pvp in 5.0? PvP WAS a way to grind gear, all of an expac ago - and it caused nothing but problems. Under-geared idiots farming refined isotopes in regs and just getting farmed themselves cuz 230 gear. Under-geared idiots farming refined isotopes in solos and just getting farmed themselves cuz 230 gear. Like, thank god gearing through pvp isn't a thing. You'd still be getting 230s in the queue till this day even though there's now a huge item gap from max in comparison. This system encourages people to pvp only ONCE they have geared. And as such, if I get someone in low gear in queue now adays its in like 280 gear which isn't as bad. It makes pvp games more fun, to a degree - more equal. And I mean since when has gearing ever been pvp related anyway You grind through a PVE story to unlock the new gear for starters. You only need to grind one 306 set, ever - then you can use tech frags. And those low gear drops are as viable a source of tech frags as everything else. This gearing system makes PVP better for everyone, and if you're that hardcore about PvP, you would: 1. Want to get 306 gear as soon as possible, which means - like everyone else - you're playing PvE FPs 2. Be happy that the queue has become more endgame related because competitive pvp is and always will be endgame content. ./applaud for Biowares (likely accidental) ingenuity to this regard

    Tactical Switching

I highlighted what you said: "In any analysis, confounding variables need to be removed" and I agree. Have you ever considered, you're adding confounding variables by jumping straight to tac slots? Ones that were not there, when we initially look at class balancing? Every class gets Tac slots. Every class can tac swap out of combat. I get this system favors stealth classes, and see what you're saying. But the issue is not - tac slots. Every tac slot (with a few exceptions) - gives you something that means something in pvp combat. Obviously you're going to notice that, Bioware said when they were first implemented that they were extremely powerful ordinance and intended to be by design - things that let you play your own way. Thats a cool system and its a shame when this level of customisation and detail has been added to the game, we want to throw it away just because under certain conditions other classes benefit more. The issue with sins is the consistency of damage. The fact they can kill you in one stun if you can't break or throw a dcd up, and thats bogus - that I grind out max augments, max gear, a set, tac slots, invest time and millions of credits into something that means nothing when someone can hit 8 buttons and my 300k health, more than most ppl have because im min/maxed - gets obliterated. It makes pvp and the whole expac in general. completely pointless if its allowed to continue. It doesn't take any skill to do, where tac slots actually do require a degree of understanding, you can learn the sin rotation in detail on YT in 10mins. I should not be getting trumped by people who aren't using skill for the kill. It blows and if I wasn't as invested in the game as I am. Id have moved on and very nearly did. The same issue is present in operatives running volatile strike / tacticians set / scrapper builds. Who can also bust out these insane numbers, due to a combination of gear, an unbalanced class system. and 10 mins on YT learning a rotation. The classes themselves just need a nerf. Its that simple. They won't be broke if they're just capped in dps enough to make 8 button global roations a thing of the past. Doing so would mean it takes skill to play the class again, everyone riding those 8 button combos for pvp will slowly disappear, and we'll all stop getting grief from Biowares apparent inability to have noticed this on the PTS, The issue is not tactical slots, its overall dps.

Also hatred sin is terrible. Its by far THE worst spec in the game. It CAN dps but much like pt, needs a healer in reality to function well.

Kreia gets it. and is a well known sin main. The issue isnt tacticals, its overall dps when it comes to sin. Deception is in bad need of a nerf. Nobody (of note ) has been complaining about pts 80k crits. And thats because despite being such a hard hitter, the class is balanced well. It works as it intends and is a model of what 6.0 was intended to be with regards to overall performance. Sin is - just ridiculous as is Operative. TK / Ling sorcs aren't as bad as despite being a top dps spec, you can nullify its dps through proper focus. Sin has no weakness like that, and Ops barely passable although a good hardstun generally counters most ops advance. TLDR there is an obvious pattern in this meta with classes that have become too overpowered in the area of consistent dps and crit capacity and hopefully they look at this in Feb.

Well, 6.0 is a stealth meta. I'm not trying to change the meta, id just prefer to see every class do the same numbers. And I can't agree that tactical swapping when you lose aggro is a high priority enough to warrant a change compared to the other avenues you can look at in order to balance the game. Its been interesting exchanging perspectives though. Thanks

I defend it because I don't see tactical swapping as an issue. Nine out of ten times on most non-fotm classes when you tactical swap, it is to reduce the numbers gap between myself and fotm classes. On my sentinel for example, running enrage crush I can easily keep up with a volatile strike ops numbers, I don't know about a sin but ops/scounds and TK / Ling sages become a lot less threatening on my main with the option to swap between large bursts and double stealths. Even with the current state of the meta, and sins swapping mid round, I can still close the gap by quite a bit employing the same tactics and as that's the case... the issue with these fotm classes I would isolate completely to dps and crit potential being too high, as the system you're complaining about in essence works the same for every class, regardless of how useful to each class the individual tac slots are.

It does benefit sins quite a lot. Im not ignoring the obvious at all im stating the contrary opinion that a lot of us tactical swap across a lot of classes - its not exclusive to sins and its removal would make for a poorer level of gameplay across all classes. The problem with sins isn't its ability to tactical swap, its its insane damage you get at no point in the game other than in endgame. The class has the utilities to be equally as deadly with less dps and less crit potential. If they did less damage then them surviving wouldn't really matter, but the issue with sins is its survivability WHILE doing these numbers. Not to fire shots but i think if anyone is ignoring the obvious its you because the issue with sins is so clearly to do with dps power in general over tactical swapping. It can down a dps with no dcds up, by opening with 1cc, and by the time the 8 second stun is over you can be dead. The fact that potential like that even exists in the game makes PvP a complete and utter joke in 6.0

When we say tactical swapping, we mean mid-round. Meaning you have to get out of combat to do it. No one wants to remove tactical swapping between rounds. Neither do I. As a merc, how are you getting out of combat mid-round? 1. The same way anyone exits combat. ./running man. It might sound impractical but welcome to the 6.0 stealth meta As a mara, if you have to stealth out and heal...you'll probably have to stealth out and heal again, so why would you swap off of the spliced genes tactical? 2. The round may have progressed and therefor me running a higher burst may be warranted. Perhaps against stacking players or just to have the tactical utility to take roughly 10% HP in a single burst. You make two assumptions here: One - That i would require two stealths, you should realistically only NEED one to heal. Two - That me having been forced to heal, means that im losing a round. Like I said, tactical slots are situational. Also I have swapped to life warden on occasion. But it's rare that you get out of combat as a sorc. If I'm under focus and phasewalk, good players will always chase me to my phase spot very quickly. If for some reason I don't get chased, I heal up and then go rejoin the fight. Sometimes I will somewhat randomly get out of combat fast, in which case tactical swapping is an option, but I normally don't opt for it anyway, because there's nothing to switch to but life warden, and I almost always want to save life warden for the third round anyway. That makes sense but to come full circle to the original point.... a lot of us do swap tac slots across a variety of classes, its a personal preference but makes a big difference in arenas done correctly, and removing the ability to swap tac slots mid round would make for a pooer experience across all classes. They're useful.

Maybe you didn't know this Alex but Tactical Slots are situational. Some examples: MERC - I run a Gunnery DPS with a Bodyguard Spec Tactical, Running Rapid Restoration. This allows me to spam med probes as I LOS in PVP, and helps when I'm under heavy focus. In easier games where I can freecast and play numbers, I swap tactical to the one that gives Vortex Bolt flame damage, because this greatly increases the dps of my rotation. I can usually be found on my merc, swapping between those tacticals each fight to farm DPS & HPS for medals. This setup is also good in a ranked scenario. MARA - I play conc / fury which has been nerfed horribly and its DPS and resilience sucks now compared to what it was last expac. Like most Sentinels / Marauders I run Defel Spliced Genes for double stealth, but when i find im not being focused too hard I lose aggro and swap to enrage crush, which detonates force exhaustion with focused burst / force sweep (Not sure on Imp Scum names) and deals its remaining damage to up to 8 enemies stacked on the target - and this serves to give me a purpose as I can jump into a stack of players and actually do something. In ranked in healer games the sudden burst is invaluable but sometimes ive found myself to get focused down and have to stealth out, then swap to defel spliced genes in order to kite. Every Class can be utilized in the same way. I won't bore you by going across all of them, but just because YOU don't see the value in it, doesn't mean its nonsense. Even sorcs have been rotating between Stormwatch and The Life Warden. I suggest you actually explore and use tactical swapping before you pretend to be an authority on it. *tips fedora*

    RIP Ranked

Maybe the solution is to make SF and DM, the two most active servers for ranked pvp, the only servers where you can play ranked pvp, and force everyone to transfer over. It would certainly solve a lot of problems and if people on the other servers complain, its meaningless because they're obviously not queued for ranked. Food for thought.
