  1. Greg, I think you just boosted BW quite a bit in every SWTOR player's eyes. I mean there is nothing wrong as such with rewarding certain players who have achieved something (in this case reached lvl50), we had this with the 'founder' title... but unlike the founder title with the lvl50-30 day free boost there was no chance for any gamer who at that time hadn't achieved 'it' to actually make it (well, I'm not 100% sure when the info came out, maybe somebody who still needed maybe some 20,000 XP to hit lvl50 may have made it ) So, I'm glad to see that BW no goes fair play and will allow people the time to put the energy in to get their character to lvl50 (or legacy 6). Bravo!
  2. You like playing solo, fair enough... me too. BUT as you say 'makes some missions insanely difficult'... so you may have to team up for 'some' missions or not do them at all. I'll give you an example: you'd say a sniper is a loner, right? (I'm talking RL not IA Sniper in SWTOR!) He is nested down somewhere, he takes aim, he blows the bad guy to hell... only problem: tunnel vision! He usually doesn't see what else is happening outside his scope vision both in the target area as well as around himself. That's why he got a spotter with him. He is the guy who is supposed to check the area, designate the target, then keep an eye on the changing scene there. Ever had the situation in SWTOR where you were taking on a mob and you were almost done with them but suddenly some wandering enemy just happens to come by and ruin your day? Same tunnel vision: you were focused on your mob and failed to see that new guy stepping into range... A group (or maybe even just another player) may have noticed him coming and either told you to shift your fight a bit or he may have been ready to assist in either quick-kill your mob or act as a barrier between you and the new guy. So, in short: SWTOR is a multiplayer game, it's not a singleplayer game. Doesn't mean you can't play A LOT as a single, but you will have to accept that eventually the multiplayer aspect will come around and bite you in the arse when you are just going solo all the time. Maybe some singleplayer game would be better suited for you?
  3. Dude... 1) rather weird but I think since early access I found that my chars can only use their regenation ability AFTER the fight has ended. So, as I've been very much able to recup, etc. my characters over and over again during gameplay (without having to log out, die or anything else fight interrupting) there is obviously a game mechanic in place that understands whether you are in combat or not. My hint therefore: play the game before you make a claim to a 'flaw'. 2) Well, d'oh! Guess what: you are supposed to be a TEAM! And teams talk to each other! And they even take care of each other! So, if your buddies go charging off after the last fight on to the next fight without checking the status of everybody in their group (and in turn the healer doing his job) your group is a fail! Simple as that! Don't blame your own lack of skill on the game! 2a) IF somebody were stuck in combat mode, yes, that would be a (minor) problem. Minor because - assuming that this also blocks your own healing ability - your group healer can still do his job... and being in combat mode wouldn't actually mean that you are really fighting so this is no panic 'OMG, we are going to die! Die!' situation but instead you could actually sit down and scratch your butt while you get healed. IF your group is incapable of doing that (due to ppl just charging off as they are already in combat mode or due to there being no healer in group), well, as said in 2) - Your group is a fail! 3) So... you know exactly what the player community is asking for? NVM... see, the thing is that you are just playing the game, you are not designing it! BW are coming up with things that should be changed based on their own evaluation of the game, they don't go 'the players feel that the grass on Alderaan should be purple, hustle people, we need to change that ASAP!' If they step into the smelly brown stuff (no matter if a change was player or BW suggested), they'll (eventually, potentially) re-address the situation. It's called game balancing... which tends to be an on-going thing in pretty much all MMOs.
  4. Hey, why would you say that? I mean space is a lonely place... a very lonely place... where nobody can hear you scream... or moan... and there is never an Ann Summers or Hustler store around when you need one... so, well, yeah...
  5. Short answer: No! Not quite as short answer: Why? I mean you picked the character, you chose the way he/she looks... Yeah, okay, I can hear the 'it had to go fast' excuse in the OP's posting... but see, to me that is a rather sad excuse: So, he 'needed' his name more than having a 'good' looking character? Well, I think both parts are equally important... and not counting on a game's (eventual/potential) option to modify either I rather put the energy (and yes, hope) into character creation to get the best character possible (for what I'm looking to create). Yes, this may mean having to go for a different name (though not yet in SWTOR) but that is an opportunity from my point of view as it just means adding another name to my list of possible 'me's. and having more than one 'me' is what BW has build SWTOR on! So, aside from 'Sandwich' you may have also found 'Burger', 'Cheese'n'ham', 'Foot'long' as potential name to add to your list ;-) But even more: why the heck didn't you just try to reserve your name? See, what I mean by 'reserve' is this: you created a character using your favorite name, and yes some fugly mug, and then you may even played him... rather quickly it became obvious that BW doesn't go with a 'once used it's gone' policy for names: if you delete your character now, it seems that that very same second your name becomes available again. So, instead of powering your character up thru the level, you could just have figured out the right way for your character to look, even tested his looks in real (server) life, and once satisfied you could just have deleted your old one and created a new one in seconds using the looks you had settled on as well as the name. I sincerely doubt that anybody would have stolen your name in those 5 secs it takes from deleting an old character to setting up a new one... I'm sorry, but whenever I hear someone asking for a chance to re-do the looks of his high level character, I can only assume that this is a case of 'having gone out of style' where people suddenly no longer like that piercing or that tattoo, no other reason.
  6. well... not too sure about that advice! I mean the basic question is what style would you like to play? Obviously, both the basic Trooper and Smuggler style are quite different, which gets 'worse' once you get the Advanced Classes... have you given any thought to how you'd like to play? I mean there is no point of you trying class A if you know that none of the possible styles for that class is actually 'your thang'. And even worse: both Trooper and Smuggler share the same starting planet, so whichever class you try as the second will jump very much thru the very same hoops that you have already done with your first class... which is a bit of a turnoff... at least it was for me... *shrug*
  7. Seriously? Did you really say (okay: write) that a trooper is more likely to take cover than a smuggler (and I assume any other class)? I'm sorry but, well, any chance you have no clue? Ask any person you meet on the street what they'll do when they are shot at and he (or she) will tell you that they'll take cover. It's normal, basic survival instinct! But, see, here is the deal: we are not really talking real life here. This is a universe where people shoot at each other with lasers and solders are wearing armour that is meant to absorb such a hit by a laser. Which means that even if a Trooper is hit, his armour is more likely to provide better protection than the 'armour' a Smuggler is wearing; to put it a bit extreme: if a Smuggler is hit, he gets a nasty burn... if a Trooper is hit, well, he has a burn mark on his armour. So, well, if you want to play like a modern, real life soldier, I guess you are playing the wrong game... if on the other hand you understand the Trooper to be like a knight in plate armour going up against people with slings and arrows, well, you may understand why a Trooper doesn't need special cover game mechanics.
  8. Right... BH is not a class? Sorry but what game are you playing? Bounty Hunter is just as much a class as Smuggler, Trooper, Jedi Knight, Sith Warrior, Imperial Agent, etc. OF COURSE(!) the AC, the Advanced Class is where on actually needs to look at just as with the tree(s) as e.g. a Dirty Fighting Scoundrel Smuggler will be different from a Dirty Fighting Gunslinger Smuggler will be different from a Saboteur Gunslinger Smuggler etc. But the class is still the base, the 'class'... so before you go all holy and mighty, please understand that there are Classes and Advanved Classes
  9. To be honest I had hoped that a DS Trooper would have a great(er) story as my LS Trooper sort of went, well, 'meh' at lvl15... (I know I should have given him more time...) But the only thing is that I can't make a DS Trooper look that I really like so that was a no-go... But yeah, I seriously loved my Gunslinger, always getting into trouble with the [Flirt] option I just wish there were a few more oneliners... well, you can never have enough, can't ya?
  10. well, some people feel the need to compensate... Which reminds me: can I get a blaster pistol for my Combat Medic Commando? I don't really feel the assault cannon for him But yeah, OP, as has been said: try finding the class/AC that feels 'rightest' for you, no point in saying 'I'll show the world that least played class X is actually just misunderstood and will be the best class ever in my hands' only to level him up to 20, 30 and then feel like you've wasted your time on a **** class.
  11. Well, in theory you could counter that 'logic' via having your trooper wear light or medium armour There are other aspects that would make sense to have adjusted in some way/shape/form: Scout troopers for example who can actually use Stealth, a Combat Medic using a blaster pistol instead of an Assault Cannon (or Blaster Rifle), Troopers able to use melee weapons, etc. But the thing is that SWTOR is rather 'simple' when it comes to classes... if you think of it along the lines of classis pen&paper D&D, yes, you will understand while it sort of made sense to have your leather armoured fighter be able to 'move silently' and in turn sneak up on enemies, just like this wasn't designed for this class, neither is the effective use of cover something that is designed for the Trooper in SWTOR... So, OP, best options: drop your idea over into -> Suggestion Box or try to 're-imagine' the classes: I mean while maybe it is flagged as a Scoundrel, has the Smuggler's story and quests, if you invest into the right skills you can actually get some armour that makes your guy less of the Smuggler and more of a trooper-ish fella... who can take cover! I did just the same with my D&D thief ages ago who was more of a stealth fighter than a thief
  12. My heart goes out to you - NOT! I love the fact that PSTers tend to forget both Alaska and Hawaii who are even worse off than anybody in PST! But hey, of course starting maintenance at a good time for those guys would of course help you! So servers down at 2am HAST... which means servers are down starting at 6am CST, 7am EST, noon GMT, 1pm CET, etc. Yeah, somehow I don't think BW will care enough about a bunch of night owls like you to not only take their maintenance into primetime in Europe but also ruin the fun for all those students in CST and EST who would probably not be able to play SWTOR before early afternoon Anyways, if you can't work your schedule around SWTOR, hey, I'm sure you'll find another game with a better suited maintenance schedule... *shrug*
  13. ...number, not a free man?
  14. Errr... right? What Crew Skill vendor are you referring to? The vendors I'm seeing in Rep Fleet are actually all rather visible and obvious... Just a note on the 'fashion designer' statement that is dropped here every 3.7 sec to supposedly show that BE definitely favors Imp over Rep: Who on Rep side would wear 'fashion'? To Jedi giving in to 'fashion' would probably be a step towards the dark side as it is born out of vanity. So, it's okay for a Dark Jedi! Well... technically yes... but would a Dark Jedi really want to openly show that he is dark side? For Troopers it's all down to uniform - end of story! Which leaves Smugglers... well, of course there are your flashy ones... just as you have your space trucker... which basically they are... so I forgive me for assuming that Smugglers will rather invest their credits into upgrading their flying bucket than buying the latest fashion presented on the runways of Taris ('with just that extra space you will fill out when you turn into a Rakghoul... I mean, you might be a slobbering crazed beast but that's no reason to run around in rags... or even worse last year's collection!')
  15. Well, to some degree I have to agree while at the same time I don't really want to ;-) Over the last 10, well, almost 11 years of MMOing I've always kept an eye on what a specific race is offering when creating a new character, whether that may be looks, base stats, boni... so yes, I have played (and am still playing) characters where I haven't chosen the race that I potentially would have loved to play but the one that made most sense. SWTOR doesn't fall into that trap: the races are really just cosmetic... which on the other hand is a bit sad as the races ARE different based on lore... As I said: it would be nice if there was 'more' to a race, while at the same time I'm glad that I don't have to curse the game and its designers for stat-modding just that particular race that I'd like to play the wrong way... Wow, I'm impressed... as to how limited yopur vision is! I assume you've only played one (1) faction? Probably Imp? And you'd never play Rep because they are losers? Gotcha... Right... now here is the deal: you don't actually have to do ALL the side quests... I assume that is news to you? Well, I guess I was fortunate: I played my 1st character mostly solo. Which meant I skipped a good many Heroic2/2+/4 quests. Next character, yeah, I dropped into that hole: 'What? Same quests again?' as I picked the other class of my initial starting planet. But then I found that obviously I hadn't done most of those Heroic quests... so I got a nice mix out of it with new-ish class quests and side quests not done... with very little boredom! Now, even if you jumped into the pit and did all the quests available the first time around, guess what: you have a completely different faction you can play under! Which actually means not just new class quests but also new side quests! Obviously, if you are not in the mood to give the other side a chance, well, that is up to you... The point where I'd say BW has f'd up is that either they didn't educate people enough in limiting themselves as far as questing goes, or that BW actually wasn't smart enough to not take into consideration all those 'instant gratification' kids who need to have their character in 'endgame' within a week or 2 max. Imagine if SWTOR was a grind game in that sense that you actually need to do pretty much every quest in order to actually get enough XP to lvl up to 50 - or in other words: what if today, 2 months after release, the most powerful characters were around level 30? Yes, because it takes that long to level your character... Aside from all those who need their 'endgame' fix, most people wouldn't actually have noticed any of the 'endgame' issues that are in SWTOR right now... and what's more: they would probably have just as much fun doing lower level PvP (or potentially even more fun)... so: BRING THE GRIND BACK! Seriously, this is not the worst idea I ever heard, but it is well located in the BS section: A game where your first mission is to go PvP... you want to bet how long that would last? See, the thing is that with such a game you are pretty much lost when you are not in at the initial start! If you spawn by yourself as a lvl1 guy, well, chances are very good that your only enemies will be higher level... or that you have to stalk the grounds waiting for other noobs to show... which potentially you could then fight and eventually complete your first quest... Game designers have understood that players need a few level of carebear-ing before they can go PvP... DAoC even was perfectly smart about the whole thing making your own realm a pure PvE zone... I mean why would you want to beat up your buddy from the same realm anyways? (Except for fun duelling of course) Another issue with a pure PvP game is also rather obvious: what if nobody's there? Example: Questgiver: 'Go and kill 5 members of faction X in location Y' You enter location Y and see... nothing... except for 20 other people from your faction waiting for people from faction X to show up... Sadly faction X has maybe a population of 20 people compared to 250+ on the other faction(s)... just because people don't like faction X! So, seriously, dear LightningLord, after playing MMOs for more than 10 years (and never having played a single minute WoW!) I still love PvE very much, thank you. Maybe the issue rests with you playing WoW? Ever thought about that?
