  1. I left a long time ago before the first expansion because the game was crap. After 4.0, and suffering from just too much WoW but still wanting a MMO, I gave SWTOR a go. LOVED having companions that meant something. I'm subscribed for 3 months. If the companions aren't buffed again to be valuable, I'll be canceling once again.
  2. WoW is incredibly solo friendly. Hopefully this comp nerf doesn't ruin a good thing.
  3. I know EA is sleezy, that doesn't stop other companies from being as sleezy or more sleezy.
  4. I was Corran Halcyon. Original? No. Happy to have it? Yes. Any intention of deleting the char and freeing up the name for someone who continues playing? Absolutely not.
  5. Definitely, definitely, I'm not thrilled to have been counted as an "active subscriber" in the recent quarterly report and with how much playtime I've got left, I'll be counted in the next quarter as well. Sadly even without the 30 days from the level 6 Legacy boost six month subscribers still have ~60 days left. All that being said, I expect next quarter will also include another huge loss of subscribers unless Bioware does something drastic.
  6. Six month subscribers will not end this month or even next month. They also have the bonus 30 days from buying the game, and the bonus 30 days Bioware gave for the Legacy Patch. That's 240 days of play time for any six month subscriber. Long story short, the six month subscribers have ~90 days of playtime left assuming Bioware doesn't give them even more free playtime.
  7. I am a six month subscriber. I subscribed on day one. So with my free 30 days from buying the game, plus my free 30 days for being an "active subscriber" during the legacy patch means I'm looking at a grand total of eight months playtime on my account. I unsubscribed about a month ago, gave Bioware a huge list of annoyances and things I found unacceptable. I'm going to compare SWTOR to other MMOs, if the thought of reading about WoW or RIFT angers you, then just skip this post. Top five things that caused me to quit. 1) Travel is absolutely horrendous. I'm thrilled to no end that I can take the shuttle from the planet directly to my ship, I am sick and tired of exiting my ship, running down a hallway, clicking a door, confirming that I actually ran all this way just to enter the main hanger, running across the main hanger, up a shuttle ramp, clicking a shuttle door, confirming that yes, really after all this running I really do just want to get down to the planet and PLAY THE GAME. Sadly to play the game I have to manually take my character through so many twists and turns it's laughable. In RIFT I've got a giant portal from the capitol city that can take me immediately to my desired zone (planet in SWTOR's case). In WoW I can hit up a flight path vendor, tell him my final destination and then talk with the wife, throw the kid around, rough house with the dog, or dangit, sometimes I can just get up and take a dump. Point is I come back and my character is where I want him, all with minimal assistance from me. 2) Lack of things I consider baseline for any new MMO. It took us a patch to get a /roll command... As the tank/raid leader of my guild's ops, I can't tell you how annoying it is to not have a /readycheck. I hate starting boss fights in Vent with "Hey guys, if you're all here could you please jump so I know we're ready to go?". We still don't have dual spec. We still don't have a LFG tool (and no I refuse to sit around and spam the fleet, hoping the ~25 people there are appropriate level range to go run a dungeon with me). RIFT launched with quad spec... WoW has had dual spec for a LONG time. I can accept that WoW's LFG tool is relatively new so I can wait a little longer for Bioware to implement something similar but it still annoys me. 3) Legacy system... I'll admit up front this is a personal issue, but I feel lied to. At their little event in Austin they presented a slide that said something like 90% of the player base has 500,000 credits or less. Later on they discussed Legacy and I could have sworn they said "You can either unlock it with legacy levels or you can buy it with a large amount of credits.". Great, I thought, I'll gladly put in the time to grind my legacy level and save my credits for something else. Then Legacy was released and it was not only a high legacy level requirement but a monumental credit cost associated with several of the rewards. If only 10% of the playerbase has more than half a million credits, then less than 10% of the playerbase has the credits to fully enjoy the Legacy system! Even then, most of the current Legacy awards are meh, nearly all the good stuff looks like it's locked until 1.3 and even then I can only imagine how many credits it will take to unlock that stuff. 4) Again, a personal issue. I paid for the collector's edition. Why, when they finally add a new thing to the CE vendor, is it a huge credit sink? 200k for a pet... Thanks Bioware, but I gave you extra REAL cash, I feel the CE vendor should sell things very cheaply if not free. Whatever, we agree to disagree apparently. I'm not thrilled that I paid more real money for the distinct opportunity to receive my own special credit sink. 5) A general lack of options. Bioware has decided my computer can't handle maxing SWTOR so currently at best I can max my personal character even though everything else looks muddy in comparison except during cutscenes. I'd rather burn my graphic card out trying to push it to it's limits than be told "No, we've made the choice for you." Why do I stick around? I hope Bioware can fix a lot of the issues I have with the game. I think SWTOR is a good game, don't get me wrong, but it's not a great game, at least not for me. I don't care what it has at release compared to WoW or RIFT at release. At present WoW and RIFT wants as much per month to play as SWTOR does and at present, WoW beats SWTOR (for me anyway) so WoW and RIFT get my subscription.
  8. From the way I read the release I'm actually counted as an active subscription even though I've canceled my account currently (I obviously still check the forums/site in hopes of finding something to make me resubscribe). I have to wonder how many other 6 month subscribers have quit for all intent and purpose yet are counted among those "active subscriptions". I know of myself and at least three others that went with the six month option and still have a large amount of play time left due to free gametime given out. 90+ days from now I'll still be counted as an "active subscriber" in the next quarterly report even though I'll only have a few days left on my account (unless Bioware convinces me to resubscribe).
  9. No, sorry. It makes no sense. Your AC IS your class. Period. You are not a Jedi Consular, you are a Jedi Sage (DPS/Healing, one normal saber, heavy Force use) or a Jedi Shadow (DPS/Tanking, dualbladed saber, heavy Saber use). AC switching is an absolutely horrible suggestion.
  10. I've canceled my subscription, but that means I still have 3, (now four months with the free month) for them to convince me to reactivate it. I think it's a good game. I've enjoyed my time with it. That being said, I believe it can be a great game and it's not living up to that potential due to poor choices by Bioware. There's so much about the game that is shocking... It took us a patch to get a /roll... We still don't have /readycheck. Travel to a planet usually still involves going through an annoying space station, the list goes on. Is a lot of the stuff on my list personal issues? Of course. It should be, it's my list for my subscription. I beleive in Bioware... at least somewhat. Not as strongly as I use to after the horrible things they've done with titles recently (See all of DA 2 and the ME 3 ending) I am fairly certain they can make this game into a great game, and when they do, I'll come back. Until then, I'm more than willing to let my subscription expire.
  11. Like I said, probably just a personal issue. I've over 10 million credits, it is certainly affordable, it's still too bloody expensive. I already paid them for access to the vendor. Real cash instead of worthless credits. To then give me a "Collector's Edition Credit Sink" is insulting in my opinion.
  12. I like the game, and maybe if it were reaching it's full potential... MAYBE. In it's current state, you are delusional at best.
  13. I am currently subscribed for 3 more months, but my interest is waning. Legacy failed to deliver for me. I was under the very mistaken impression that unlocks were obtained either with Legacy level or a large amount of credits, now that the system is here I'm incredibly disappointed to find out that it's both legacy level AND a huge sum of credits. Personal thing here, and I may be wrong, but I'm a tad insulted that after giving Bioware a large sum of cash for the Collector's Edition, the CE vendor FINALLY gets something new and it requires a large sum of credits... 200k for a Tauntaun pet. Like I said, maybe it's a personal issue, but I feel the CE vendor should have mostly free or at the very least signficantly cheap items. 200k is ridiculous. My Jedi Knight Campaign gear.... What the heck... I won't dock them too hard since I can move the mods out to gear that looks like something a JK would actually wear (oh and perhaps most importantly of all, doesn't include the giant bubble butt that still plagues male Jedi Knights) but come on... Fire the art team if they think that even remotely looks good. Suppose I could play my Sage... Oh wait, apparently all Consulars go back to the stoneage and put on gear that I may see on Barney Rubble... I can finally go directly from the planet to my ship... Sadly I still have to travel through an annoying space station to reach the planet from my ship. On the plus side, my friends still play this game, and the rakhghoul event is entertaining for now. As my subscription renewal date gets closer (I originally paid for 6 months, figured that would be plenty of time to see the quality of patches and decide if I wanted to stay subscribed) I will continue to decide whether or not to let it renew or to cancel. Currently, I'm leaning towards cancel as the game is still lacking imo. It's a good game, don't get me wrong, but I see the potential for a great game and frankly, that's what I'm expecting.
  14. First MMO eh? Pretty sure every MMO I've played (and I've played quite a lot, matter of fact I still have active subscriptions to both RIFT and WoW) has rewarded a free day or two when patches screw everything up. Correction, we're receiving 30 days free play time as a publicity stunt (granted, I'll take it, but I won't deny it as the obvious publicity stunt) and one day for what should have been a relatively small patch that royally borked their game.
  15. I badly want this game to succeed but the comparison between SWTOR at launch and WoW at launch was only good for opening week (if that). Is it unfair? Yes, horribly, but it is what it is. I'm not playing WoW Vanilla anymore, I play WoW: Cataclysm and will soon be playing WoW: Mist of Pokemon Battle Farmville (and what ever other IP we can rip/pay off Ninja Edit: Before anyone comments on that, I'm not suggesting Bioware rip off IPs, there are other very good qualities of WoW that should be copied over and I've suggested these numerous times). To keep my subscription and keep me playing a new MMO, it simply has to compete with the present rather than with the past. Yes, SWTOR at release was infinitely better than WoW at release. Problem is it's 2012. Bioware hopefully knows that they have to add a ton more features and do it quickly.
