Crafting in general seems to just be broken in this game from a design standpoint down to its very core.
Crit/RE crafting is a % chance and you really don't have a way to increase this chance very significantly other than robot mods. (no artiface crit mod there) Other games allow you to mod out clothes and armor to help allow this to improve. The better your crafting gear the better the more successful the crafter. Right now its random and we hear many many people craft or RE 20-30 items without hitting.
Also end game crystals were given to myself an artificer but they let you purchase them all for the month before they release the crafters ability to make +41 crystals thus killing the entire market.
That kind of decision shows that the design at its very core is totally flawed.
