  1. I think you're missing my point. I know Singapore is an English speaking country. I'm Singaporean myself. It's precisely because we are English speaking that we get lumped together with Australia and New Zealand. Doesn't change the fact that we are indeed a much smaller market compared to Oz/NZ. So it makes sense given the grouping to host servers in Australia. My point is that this version of the game is not being marketed to Asia in general. If they launch in Japan, it would be a Japanese version. Korea will have it's own version. China / Taiwan again their own version. We are one of the few places in Asia that don't need a local language version because we are English speaking. There will be no such thing as a single Asian version of TOR with centralised servers in one place to serve all of Asia. That is my point. Even if they do, it's unlikely they will host the servers in Singapore.
  2. This Asia Pacific release is really just a release to English speaking countries in the region. It makes sense for them to put the servers in Australia where both Aussies and Kiwi's get good ping. Their combined population over 30 million? Singapore + Hong Kong = 12+ million. They will not officially release the English version of this game in any other region of Asia. They will need to translate the game to a local language version. So yes they were sneaky when they named it Asia Pacific launch when it's actually Oceanic launch with 2 Asian cities tagging along. My guess is they want to capture the English speaking gamers that exist in the entire region, hence the Asia Pacific tag. But make no mistake, the primary market here is Australia.
  3. Can you pm me the details which tunneling service you used? A name or URL will do. This is connecting to the Aussie servers correct?
  4. M1 users are reporting 120-150ms latency. Singtel and Starhub users are the ones getting crap ping. These are the 3 major ISP's in Singapore. I've not spoken to anyone using Pacific Internet or Superinternet. And since you're curious... I'm a Starhub subscriber (Cable broadband 30mbps line). When trying to connect to servers in Australia via sites like speedtest, depending on which servers I ping, latency ranges from 150-500ms. These are servers located in Sydney and Melbourne. Servers in Perth I get 100-120ms. My current ping to TOR US servers ranges from 200-280ms. And it's a fact some of my Malaysian guildies are getting better ping no matter what you think of their internet lol. Maybe you don't know as much as you think you do.
  5. I don't think there is much they can do... So they name it Oceanic and not APAC. So what lol? It's not 100% people from Singapore and Hong Kong getting crap ping. Depending on ISP's, some people are getting good ping. If EA/BW switch servers or what not (which I doubt will happen, can they even do anything about it realistically?), then it's likely the guys getting good ping now will get crap ping. Either way someone will get crap ping, unless we all use the same ISP. Besides according to my Malaysian guildies, quite a few of them are getting better ping on the Aussie servers. So we can't blanket claim that everybody is getting higher latency on the new servers. Apparently there are routes into Australia that will get us good ping, it's just we're not on it =P Btw I'm sure there's a disclaimer on their marketing material somewhere that latency is dependent on many factors and that your mileage will vary. This kinda stuff is SOP. EA/BW would've covered their own asses. =P I'm more worried about the community we had on the unofficial Oceanic servers being torn apart. I know I'm definitely staying on Swiftsure but my guild is likely moving. Guess I'm just going to let my sub run out now.
  6. In warhammer it was the reverse. Starhub 120-150 ping, M1/Singtel over 300+. Btw EA Mythic never did anything about it. In a way they are not lying. It is possible to get sub 150ms ping to Aussie servers, depending on the route taken. I'm with Starhub btw, getting 350-500 ping. Good thing I'm no longer on contract. I might switch to Superinternet Fiber to see how the latency is. If any sg players know of a tunneling service to use with the Aussie servers, pm me details pls.
  7. Are you on swiftsure? Lemme guess. Republic side, Radical Dreamers? They are the only SG based guild I can think of that can field such numbers. Largely due to the way they recruit.
  8. Star Wars is not quite the same pop culture phenomenon in Asia compared to US. It has a dedicated following sure but is nowhere near as popular. This launch itself is misleading. It's not an Asia Pacific launch. It's an Oceanic launch with two Asian cities tagging along. I can't speak for Australia or New Zealand but I'm expecting moderate success of this game in Singapore and Hong Kong. It's not going to be a runaway hit. Minus the IP, this game has very little to offer in terms of innovation or fun factor. In fact for every step forward, which for TOR means only one thing "Story", BW took 3 steps backwards. Let's face it once you hit endgame, I give the average gamer 2 months before they get bored with this. Especially if you're not the alt rolling type. In the past two weeks, my guild went from 30+ active players to about 10. And from what I'm seeing on my server, which is the most populated (The Swiftsure), this is happening to most launch guilds. So success of this launch hinges primarily on Star Wars fandom in Australia and New Zealand imo. Is that enough to support viable population numbers for the oceanic servers in the long run? We'll see... And before anyone calls me a hypocrite, I'm subbed for another 2 months and still playing the game. I'm just calling it for what it is.
  9. For the last time... Majority of Singaporeans are bilingual and speak English. We are not white, but have no problems communicating in English. Even though it may not be our native language. Hong Kong is quite similar to Singapore. The level of proficiency may be slightly lower but Hong Kong people will have no problems communicating in English. Remember, Hong Kong was a British colony for a very long time. You'd think in this day and age, that people will know these things...
  10. WoW launched in 2003... Really? Comparing a launch from almost 10 years ago to a launch now? Newsflash! In older mmo's, a camp of mobs for groups to grind on was considered content! There was no fast travel, you run everywhere! Leveling was a group activity and it took months even for hardcore players! Does that mean these first gen mmo's sucked? No. They were fun at that time. But things change... TL:DR Games can launch today with all these new features we've come to accept as standard and still be a steaming pile of poo.
  11. People who say they are getting kill credit and everything is fine. When servers first came up, that was indeed the case. Quite a few in my guild managed to finish their weekly with no problems. But past a certain time, kill counts started to bug for the entire server. Across 3 instances of ilum, no one was getting any valor or credit for kills. Within an hour of this happening, ilum became a ghost town except for a few guys circling central harvesting armaments. Go check ilum on your server now. Find some action and see if you are still getting credit or valor. i'm on The Swiftsure and I can confirm. Nobody is getting valor or credit for kills now.
  12. LMAO after baying for ops/scoundrel blood, the other op classes are nervous. So many in my guild are rolling mercs now because of the faceroll play. I told them to forget it. It's too late now, the nerf hammers are swinging! Careful what you wish for. Coz once the nerfing starts, it never stops.
  13. Except that 1.5 second stun now gives you full resolve. Note that bioware never stated that they changed that component of the skill. Only the stun duration. If I was writing the patch notes and that was changed, I would point that out.
  14. I think you're wrong on this one. If they changed the resolve value of HS, it will be in the patch notes. The fact there was nothing on this can only mean one thing. It will still give a full resolve bar.
  15. Are you sure it doesn't give full resolve? If that's the case this nerf is actually great news!
