  1. Not sure if this point has been made, but I've heard it explained that in the Herioc Epic, one of the essential elements is the mentor. Qui-Gon serves as a mentor for Obi Wan. Obi Wan, despite being Anakin's master, is not Anakin's mentor. He is more in the companion role. This is important, because without a mentor, Anakin is naturally drawn towards Palpatine who offers him the mentorship he is lacking. Without a propoer mentor, Anakin fails to become the Heroic figure. Obi Wan later mentors Luke who is also mentored by Yoda. Luke succeeds in becoming the Heroic figure partly due to this advantage. Another part of the Heroic Epic is the departure or loss of the mentor. Losing a mentor forces the Heroic character to rely on himself rather than the mentor and also allows the Heroic character to grow beyond the teaching and instruction of the mentor. Again, Qui-Gon serves this role for Obi Wan and Obi Wan and Yoda both serve this role for Luke. Anakin remains subservient to Palpatine and never has to rely on himself and thus never grows into his full potential as a Heroic Character. So Qui-Gon really serves as an example of the mentoring system that Anakin is missing and helps illuminate this a reason for Anakin's fall.
  2. It was one on Hoth and I'm (was) a Sage. I was cruising through the quests without too much issue and even taking on the Heroic +2's by myself. After they nerfed Sages I can't even beat a normal quest. I'm not hacking and slashing it (wouldn't do any good since I do no damage) and I'm playing the way a healer is supposed to be played. But Sage's were too good in PVP so they nerfed them across the board. Now I can't play their class quests without sneaking around the enemies...
  3. Its not a Rage quit post and I have every right to post whatever I want. I'm not quiting nor did I ever say I was. I'm just stating that I'm not playing this character anymore. I'll still subscribe and play (I enjoy the game) but I can't go any further in my quests so I have nothing to do. I do love the "I'm level 33 and have no issues" comment though; very helpfull; you're right, we're completely in the same boat.... Let me know if you don't see a difference at the higher levels.... And I love that its my fault for not reordering my talent tree correctly after I had it set up the way I like it and the way I was used to... I would appreciate any advice on how to set it up correctly... I did what would make sense to me and wasted alot of time on it....
  4. Okay, I've officially spent more time on the forums then in the game now... I feel like I'm the red-headed step child.... I started at release, and joined a normal server as a Sage. That server gradually died, so I started playing an alt on another server. That server also had chirping crickets shortly thereafter (seriously the only 2 servers with 'light' usage last night were the 2 I had characters on.). Then I opened another account so my girlfriend and I could play together. Then 1.2 comes out. I'm told I'm not as valuable as the level 50 characters (of whom I would have loved to be but had to reroll twice or accept playing in the vacuums of space) and my highest level character is nerfed and I have to spend time rebuilding his stat tree. After that I get the grand annoucement that I have 10 days to get my character to level 50, but I am now to the point where playing my highlest level character is agony (Sage). I spent the last 2 days waiting for an extended time to play 1.2 and updating to 1.2 and the subsequent patch and after all that... I died 4 times in 30 minutes. I know everyone is going to say I suck and I don't play the character well, but I died 4 times against 2 strongs that were 4 levels below me on a class quest; I've barely even had to rest through class quests before. What did I do to BW to make them hate me so...?
  5. Tried again out of stubbernness and boredom... Still can't get past them. Used Stims and everything I had. I just can't do any damage. If BW thought the Sage's healed too well in PVP and wanted to nerf them, why not make our companions do more damage in PVE as a balance? As it is my character is unplayable. Again, thanks BW.... I'll go back to playing my ALTs although that is clearyly discouraged by your free month policy...
  6. I guess I did miss that annoucement, but still he's a nerfed Sage on a dead server. Not worth $15 to play with him... Thanks but no thanks BW... Again, I'm not quiting, but I do feel like I'm the unluckiest soul in the world; not only did the first server I picked go dead, but the second one I picked did as well...
  7. Umm.. am I missing something? Do we have a chance to level our abandoned characters to 50 afterall? I didn't see this... I doubt I would level my mid-40 Sage anyway, the nerf made it no fun and the server is dead. I think I'll take a break and enjoy my garden and getting back in shape....
  8. I just wasted 30 minutes of my life playing my level 42 Sage after the 1.2 update. Was trying to get past my class quest opponents of 1 Strong level 38, 1 Strong level 37 and 2 level 38's... Couldn't keep my companion alive long enough for him to do any damage and couldn't do any myself. Never had any problem at all until tonight. Go ahead and flame on me that I'm not any good at the game; whatever; I never claimed to be, but I would like to be able to make it through the class quests and play the story when I'm 4 levels above the enemies.... But I guess noone will listen to me since I'm one of the invaluable subscribers that haven't reached level 50 even though I've been a constant subscriber since day 1. Really BW? My server's dead (3 guild members on out of 438 tonight), my class is dead, and everyone on the forums say I should have stuck it our and made it to 50 for the free month... Really....?
  9. Crickets chirping.... much less posting since the servers came back up....
  10. I feel bad for them too, but at least they're not paying for down time... They can't be too upset...
  11. First, it was the wording that offended. It was extremely poor wording and they need to make a retraction on the statement about loyalty and value. Second, why go to such lengths to segment your populace? Third, would you honestly not be upset if it was the other way around? I'm not too upset, the money isn't an issue, it is just upsetting to reward people for playing more often or differently.
  12. Again, in his analogy he said the level 50s were the ones that come more often. But maybe an even better analogy is a private club. Rather a patron attends often or infrequently, they still pay the same thing. But in this analogy, the patron who attends more often IS more valued because he helps the club have a stronger presence and more enjoyable atmosphere and thus attracts more members. That being said, I want more people in the game and I think everything that can be done to maintain and grow the server populations should be done. But I also think that they need to do so in a manner which doesn't offend the ones who were not targeted for the reward.
  13. Incorrect analogy. In your anaolgy the restaurant gets more money from the avid patron than the more casual diner. Thus, money equals value. A cell phone plan is a better comparison. Two people pay a cell phone company for phone service. One uses ever minute allowed and the other uses only a few. Since they both payed the same amount, the cell provider values them equally.
