  1. Scrapper and Dirty Fighting 1. I feel Scoundrel is not esteemed highly by others as a viable DPS class, both in PvP and PvE. They are a nuisance at most in PvP. 2. Scrapper Relies too heavily on a single ability for damage (Shoot First). This is boring and it makes Scrapper too fragile: if someone breaks my stealth (which happens a lot with AoEs flying around), I am at a severe disadvantage. DoTs disrupting Disappearing Act make it not as useful as it seems and its CD is too long. Dirty Fighting Very inconsistent spec: DoTs are long range, abilities that interact with DoTs are medium range and one of those requires me to use Blaster Whip in melee. What's the point of having ranged abilities if I need to be in melee range anyway? Overall: I feel Scoundrels have lots of redundant abilities that don't work well together. What's the use of cover and associated abilities for a class that's highly mobile and fights in medium to short range? It's an uncomfortable mix of long range and short range abilities. Only Scrapper really uses the Scattergun, for the other specs it's just a prop to boost stats.
  2. What I liked was being able to experience a developing story at level 50 - as opposed to grinding dailies - and the chance to earn unique items and gear. I really hope to see more like this in the future! What I didn't like was the sudden ending: I had read somewhere that the event would go on for a while, so I left for a short trip without worrying. However, when I came back the event was over and I hadn't spend any of my 75 tokens and I only had half of the orange gear set What I'd like to see in the future: an alien race sending a recon-in-force as a prelude to an invasion, wild animals attacking, a virus that causes droids to turn on their masters, a supply crisis that requires players to harvest resources from a certain planet, and perhaps some non-catastrophic events, like a festival or a special trade post appearing on a planet. Just some random thoughts.
  3. Will we ever see free-roaming fighter combat in space? Possibly even PvP combat? I like space combat, but the missions get old fast. And I love my ship, but I long for the kind of starfighter action that's in the movies.

    Some data

I do. I hoped the word "preliminary" covered it. I meant to say: from what I am seeing right now, the little information I have is pointing in this direction. I was hoping to find people who had made observation about PvP dps and would share their findings, so I could see if what I found was purely random, or if others found the same.

    Some data

Because of randomness. If you found 80% white wins, there would have to be a bias in your coin-flipping. A lot is wrong with my little research, but this is not a good point.

This is a good point btw. And this is why it's such a shame I couldn't tell the difference between ACs.

    Some data

You do realise that finding 80% white wins under such circumstances is rather unlikely don't you? I know my "study" is flawed. However, 20 matches isn't that bad. You do not need 1000s of matches to draw reasonably reliable conclusions. I just thought I'd share some early results. I just noted that what I have observed so far, is that SM/IA and TR/BH damage output is better than JK/SW DPS. Based on the data I have, that is reasonable to conclude. I lack information, but the information I do have points in this direction. So I go with that. I know that I don't have all the information, so there is a chance that some actual data show up and prove me wrong. In that case I will be happy to admit that what I concluded from my earlier data was false There are lots of reason why these specific data may not mean what I say they mean. Hwever, it is the best information I have at this moment. If anyone actually has better data than this, let's hear it.

    Some data

Of course it is a flawed study. I know statistics. Just some data collected for fun. The difference I found (so far!) could be explained by the fact that there are very few JK/SW playing PvP. I haven't checked that. I assumed equal populations. AFAIK, there are actually more JK/SW than any other class, so that would make the results I found more unlikely.

    Some data

I compared classes in WZs on a single aspect. I assume that what I compared were DPS-specced classes and I tried to make sure by only comparing top damage dealers. What you would expect if there were truly no differences between those classes, is a a roughly equal division among the classes: about 25/25/25/25%. That is not what I found. I found 40/35/20/5%. I did not expect this. No one has been able to explain it so far. Criticism until has been aimed at pointing out that there is more to WZs than PvP. Which is true. However, that does not mean there should be differences in damage output among classes.

    Some data

It's more like going to every steakhouse and tasting their fries. And then reporting on which steakhouse has the best fries. And then have people complain that having the best fries says nothing about steaks. Which it doesn't. Yet still: why should I find a difference if all classes should be able to do about the same amount of DPS? There are lots of factors, some tied to wz objectives, player skill, gear and random factors. But this is true for all classes. It does not explain differences. I specifically looked for players that did the most damage and what I found is that in 20 matches only once did a JK/SW emerge as the highest DPS. How would you explain that?
  11. Florion

    Some data

The data is pretty ok for what I intedend it for: comparing DPS among classes in PvP. I took only highest damage dealers to improve the chance that I was actually comparing people that were specced for PvP and were busy killing other players and not doing other usefull stuff like guarding objectives or planting bombs, etc. People who behave like that will run into groups of enemies they can't handle, which means they will die a lot and this takes them out of action for some time. That would lower their DPS probably. If what you say has any bearing on my numbers, it would be that apparently SW/JK players have a much better understadning of WZ objectives than others. I found a difference and what you say goes for all players: it does not explain the difference at all. I know DPS isn't everything and does not equal success or effectiveness in warzones. However, why should there be such differences if the classes are supposed to be balanced?

    Some data

Read OP: I wanted to compare damage output of classes in PvP. That's what I did. I recorded some data and drew a conclusion. What might be interesting to discuss is: 1) Have other people found the same results, or do they feel that their class is less capable of dealing damage than others, while they are specced for DPS? 2) What is the significance of DPS in PvP? Some posters here seem to argue that the less damage you do in PvP, the better.

    Some data

The numbers were obtained from the endscreen of warzones. If you hover over the damage done stat, it tells you the DPS. Not sure how this is calculated, but it is better than comparing total damage output, since longer matches will increase total damage output, but not DPS necessarily. I agree, but I had no way to measure that. Again I agree. High DPS does not equal wz effectiveness nor does being overpowered solely rely on damage output. That still leaves us with numbers that suggest that SW/JK can't do damage like SM/IA and TR/BH can.

    Some data

As I said in the OP, a preliminary conclusion, no more than that. And, as I added in later comments, a conclusion that only refers to the ability to do damage, nothing lese. All these points I mentioned in previous posts, I was ONLY talking about damage output, not other forms of utility. What I did was comparing the top damage dealers of 20 different matches. So it is probably safe to say that those were not healers or tanks, but classes specced for DPS. If you had read my post correctly, you would know that I only gathered data on a single JK/SW (in fact it was a JK), because in those 20 matches, played over a week, only once did a JK manage to be the top damage dealer. And I only gathered information about the top damage dealer in each of those matches. And in those 20 matches, not once was a SW the top damage dealer. No it is not, there are no missing data. I recorded which class was the top damage dealer during 20 matches and I recorded their DPS. I succeeded in doing so each time. So now I have 20 cases of complete data. What you are trying to say is that there is more to being over/underpowered than DPS. On this I agree. However, what I measured was the DPS done by the top damage dealer. I wondered which class was best at doing DPS. The first sentence of my post explained what I wanted to do: compare damage output of different classes. My PRELIMINARY conclusion is: SM/IA and TR/BH are best at doing DPS. JK/SW is the worst class for DPS. Based on these data, that is a correct conclusion. Where DPS is concerned, JK/SW could be considered underpowered. You can criticise me for focusing on only a single aspect of PvP (ie DPS). I only used the data that was easy to obtain, hence I can't say anything about ACs. However, you have not yet managed to falsify my claim with any data at all. All you did was argue. If I'm wrong, show me that JK/SW can consistently match SM/IA and TR/BH in terms of DPS.

    Some data

One of those posters was me, thank you. I didn't think it was necessary to state the very obvious, namely that as I only looked at DPS, anything that may be deduced from these data is about DPS and not, for example about the ability to heal or CC. The only way my numbers/statistics are flawed is if I claimed it is possible to draw firm conclusions from them, or if I were trying to build a model to predict success in PvP. None of that is what I'm doing. I only provided "some data" (thread title!). Of course I could have collected more data than just DPS and I could have looked at many more matches and I could have waited until I was 50. And that would have given us numbers that were more meaningful. However, that does not mean those number are flawed or can not have any meaning at all. Based on this set of data you have to conclude that it is more difficult for JK/SW to be the top damage dealer than for SM/IA and BH/TR. Sure, you can argue that I should have looked at other factors. I assume for now that those other factors are random error. A lot can be improved, I am willing to admit that. However, "some data" is still better than no data at all. And if anyone can provide better data, I'd like to see it. Indeed I did. I did this, because I wanted to know which class could do the most DPS in PvP. So I looked only at DPS. In PvP. What is wrong with that?
