  1. I am against the idea of allowing the rancor or speeder to be bought with certificates. These are items that are meant to be rare or very rare, and you know it is a great feeling when you win one. If you allow people to sell what they win, then you eliminate the purpose of a credit sink. What I would suggest is more items for certs. Ive got the armor, pets, weapons and speeder, I have won the magnus and rancor, so what purpose do I have to go back? Id suggest throw up some color crystals, new armor etc once a week or so(while keeping the old stuff) so people have a reason to come back. Another thing I would suggest is allowing a certain about of certs(say 5) be tradeable to the vendor for a Kingpin token.
  2. F2P appeals to the casual gamer, or those that really can't afford $15 a month. Sure you cannot fast travel, have an extra toolbar or equip certain items, but to many, they don't care. It becomes treated like a single player game. It is also a good way to give people the chance to try something new out without having to drop cash from the get go. For those that say "It's only $15, stop being cheap." To that I say, keep quiet. $15 can mean alot to some, maybe they have a family to support, maybe they recently lost their job or an unexpected expense came in. It gives players who like the game but can't afford it at the time an opportunity to play. The gaming world is an everchanging industry, its becoming a world of micro transactions. Sometimes you can make more money through those micro transactions than a flat subscription. If it wasn't making money, it wouldn't be happening.
  3. I had a conversation with a friend about this exact topic a few days ago. While I played at launch, I took a year off right before Makeb was released. I did notice many changes, mainly for the better. The points I brought up in the discussion mainly revolved around SWG(My first MMO) What captivated me in that game was how OPEN it was. Most of the time you could see a fair number of players in major cities like Theed and Mos Eisley. There wasn't any real story based system so what did people do? They worked together and created their own content and stories. The PvP battles were fun when you got a large group attacking a player city. If you didn't want to fight, you could go explore, I remember people going nuts when they found a DJM, or first stumbled on the DWB. You could craft, gather resources etc. In short, it felt like a universe. I don't mind having linear stories, in fact I enjoy those. I think one thing I had hoped for was more open world/sandbox elements in gameplay. When you look at it, you hit level cap, why would you go back to Tatooine, Balmorra etc? Other then to help a guildie maybe or achievement hunt? To this day one of my most memorable moments in gaming was the destruction of Restuss in SWG. It was a cool event to see unfold. If SWTOR could do something to bring some life back to ghost town planets, I think you may see a few people come back and see the good changes that have happened. All in all, SWTOR is a solid game, I don't want it to be an SWG clone, but seeing some elements from it be implemented would be cool.
  4. The thing with player housing, and again, just going back on my time in SWG was that it could reflect the player and be a cool place to see. I remember two guildies went all out, one created a Sith like temple theme and the other a Jedi theme. One person created a museum like home that featured rare loot collected over the years, complete sets of armor etc. I think what some people are getting at is they want to be able to have their stronghold feel like theirs. If all your friends have the same statue and that statue can only be placed in one spot in your stronghold, everything will look the same. Variety is great, decorating isn't for everyone, heck in SWG some people made a living offering deco services and made some pretty good money. Maybe someday I will log on and be like "Man, I don't wanna grind dailies, hey maybe ill go set up my BH trophy room." Id like to have that option, and yes it may not be everyone's cup of tea. It's like some people with PvP, it's there but they don't want to do it.
  5. I remember player housing in SWG and the freedom to decorate it how you want. You could spend alot of times going from house to house and see what people came up with, very unique and original. That is one of my hopes for these strongholds, everyone of them should be unique in some way. If its cookie cutter and all decoration placements are the same, why would your friends come check yours out when theirs is the exact same. I mean either way, its a free expansion so there isn't much complaining one can do.
  6. The issue of "Balance" has been around since the dawn of MMO's, and it is not going to go away. I remember back when playing SWG, with something like 36 different professions/classes. Now the thing about that was, people could dabble so many things that it was next near impossible to create what players would consider balance. Then the NGE came about and that was supposed to bring balance with just 9 classes. The problem was you had an abundance of jedi running around with carbines. If things were to be 100% balanced I would find the game bland. Give everyone stealth, a healing ability etc. but what is the fun in that? I for one like diversity, it makes you think strategy and how you play different situations. I am not saying do the 30+ classes(granted many were not combat oriented.) But maybe some new variety would spice up the game. Players will never be fully happy, you will always have some that believe things aren't fair, that is why you will never see balance.
  7. So I was doing a bounty on Hutta yesterday and figured id check the spawn for him since he was the last guy I needed for that achievement, 30 minutes of waiting and nothing. Later that night I decided to level my agent, again, went to the spawn point and nothing for an hour. Is he still in the game, or what is the timer? Even the button on the stolen shuttle couldnt be pressed.
  8. Played as both roles, mind both are only level 21. I can say for me personally, the PT is much more fun for me and suits my play style. You can take a considerable beating and hold your own with DPS, considering the PT can be used as a decent off-tank. It comes down to personal preference and how you play. If you want to get up close and personal and watch your enemies burn, roll a PT Pyro. If you prefer to stay back and kill from a distance while being able to heal yourself and allies, roll merc. With all classes, whether it be a jedi, smuggler, BH, sith warrior etc. You will get the most enjoyment if you play what suits you, not go with the flavor of the month, unless that is the way you like to play then go all in.
  9. To put it into perspective for some, When I played SWG, I bought all the expansions, the last one being Mustafar. For one planet, a rise in level cap, some extra missions and loot, it was about $30 bucks. Now this one they are charging subs $10 and F2P $20. That's still cheaper than most expansions, look at WoW: Kung Fu Panda, it was more expensive. While I am not happy with some aspects of this game and the customer service, I think this is a reasonable price for guess what? something people have been BEGGING for, END GAME CONTENT!
  10. A party jawa, fireworks, a ball toss... how about something we would use, like I dunno... cartel coins, a mystery box with a rare item in it, a cartel pack? Ya know... something that affects my gameplay.
  11. Being an SWG veteran(Pre-CU, CU and the dreaded NGE) I can say that for a game of this magnitude, the space missions are so poorly done, if I wanted to play a linear space shooter I would go pop Super R-Type into my SNES. This is 2012, and look at what SOE did with Jump To Lightspeed years ago? I loved space in SWG... free roaming, mining for minerals, combat, ability to fly different ships with different pilot levels, PVP. How could you guys not come up with something like that? Or even implement space missions into a characters story. Your space system needs an overhaul and I for one am not excited about this.
