  1. My guild is doing something a little risky but very often it works. Before the Bestia tank switches with the Calphayus tank we get the 1 bulky melee dps (either a shadow dps or a guardian dps etc) taunt calphayus momentarily as calphayus tank runs towards bestia and taunts her. This way we try to ensure that Bestia does not come close to calp and buff him.
  2. cleared HM Styrak 16 man, moving on to Nightmare next.
  3. Ok you make a good point actually but some of the wording you used in this discussion does not really represent your opinions in the manner that you suggest. You seem to think that the problems a lot of prospect and seasoned shadow tanks are facing at the entry to NiM raiding have to do with the level of your execution ability of the skills of your class. I too mostly ignore balance calls as people desperately trying to entitle their own classes to a higher standard than they are at the moment but I was quite frankly shocked at how frequent dying can be for a shadow tank in Hard Mode. At first I thought it as a healing slack issue since I am a tank I don't run through the numbers in Group panels as frequently as a healer does, but the reality is just that I as a guardian tank, so long as I'm properly geared am taking far , and I mean FAR less dramatic dips. Frankly if our shadow tank that's fully 72 gets 28k hits in Hard Mode, one can only worry about the problem in Nightmare Mode. (my server also has a few guilds doing nightmare weekly, while I do not have first hand experience I have a few friends who have stopped using their Shadow classes entirely due to constant heat from their own healers). I agree with your opinion however that this issue is hyperinflated and overhyped. It is not that shadow tanks suck, but they are unreliable for nightmare mode tanking. Not saying it's not possible to play nightmare with them, but the sheer ability to being able to survive Nightmare Mode rests not on shadow tank's skill but his dedicated healer's. Otherwise we are having few to no troubles so long as we don't go 16 man or do NiM. (But right now being almost 72 NiM is our next natural progression route.)
  4. When a group of Shadow / Assassin Tanks have flooded the Tanking forum with Caps Lock "NERF: Guardian Tanks" with the argument "Shadows are weak, Bioware is not listening to us, so Guardians are strong, nerf them for the sake of balance." and "We created this thread to take attention to our troubles, we actually don't want a guardian nerf" I criticized them for their wrongful approach to their problem which seemed and still seems coming from a childish behavior. We have exchanged our opinions but despite our differences of opinion with Kitru or Knives we agreed that shadows DO need some love to base armor bonus in exchange for an incremental hit in mitigation. Andryah, I have respected you for a long time because you in many topics have approached "WE HATE EAWARE THIS GAME SUCKS IT IS DOOMED TO FAIL." topics with criticism within the boundaries of reason. I too have believed and still believe that SWTOR is a very good game that has excellent advantages that are often overlooked with problems that are overhyped by a self-entitled fanbase. But while I do not see myself as a refree on any sort of way in this discussion, the data, first hand experience in many hardcore raiding guilds that play NiM level ops far more often than you and I disagree with your reasoning here. I do understand what you are trying to say but discussion based on player skill or finesse as you point out cannot possibly help in an ability that hits 40k+ and your adrenals and mitigation skills are on cooldown or unable to assist with the problem. We have had the chance to form a 16 man Hard Mode group with a friendly group and the difference in terms of tank damage is staggering. Even simple hits from Terror From Beyond HM tentacles continously kept hitting our tank for 20k+ while same tentacles hit me for around 10k-14k interval. Yes, you are right these two classes are not meant to tank in the same manner or take the same amount of hit, certainly shadows have their own advantages of guardians. But the difference shouldn't be dramatic in this way. I can very easily with my 72 (with few 69) gear tank through the damage Operations chief does on hard mode and solo tank it while shadow demands a switch and runs the risk of being instagibbed if he's below 80%. Of course there should be variety between tanks, they should play differently and experienced differently. But one should not have to worry about encounter luck when he will take no damage for 4 hits and suddenly take a dip to 10% in the next hit. Spikey too has it's limits. And this is HM. I can't imagine how NiM tanking is, I have only experienced Dash Roode and TWH and those are the easiest.
  5. I have a FX 8350 at 4.6GHz and an overclocked HD 7970 to go with it. The game when I'm alone easily treads past 120+ fps when I'm alone, like when I'm in my personel starship. But go to Republic Fleet and you get dips to 40-50 fps with fps indicator being red clearly showing a processor bottleneck. In 16 man raids this can become even more dramatic with fps around 25-30 at times when there is a lot of stuff going on inbetween the fight. So for MMO's we can pretty much ascertain that you need a strong CPU. AMD is slightly disadvantageous here due to the game not supporting all of it's cores, therefore I expect Intel i5 - i7 variants to do about 20 to 30% better.
  6. they were smart enough to devise their own strategy. Who are we to tell them that something has to be killed only in a certain method and other methods are, that's only BW's territory. If whatever strategy works for them, who cares.
  7. Some members of the Shadow community mindset is like: Problem: APAC Servers are Empty Solution: DEPOPULATE THE NA SERVERS!!!
  8. A very good way to earn good faith I am sure is to spam forums about the same situation instead of consolidation (APAC Server Concerns thread, anyone?). And start threads that have nothing to do with solving your problems. Because I am sure all Shadow problems will be fixed once Guardians are nerfed. Because that analogy makes a lot of sense, apparently to some people. It is not as if a lot of people who are criticizing this thread are unsympathetic to Shadow tank concerns. Many are simply annoyed that some people with some pretty destructive mindsets have decided that for attention they need to post something that actually serves nothing for their own problems, just to cause pointless drama here.
  9. This is kind of true I went in TFB NiM for the first time with mostly 69 few 72 gear the other day and even if you know the fight and execute your class properly there are from now and then subsequent 10k hits and it's not easy to heal through that consistently. It seemed to me that while a few bosses are possible to kill with 69 gear, 72 still seems mandatory for the entirety of the operation.
  10. Not every person who is dealing with customers has to know about class balance issues. It is not surprising for them to not know at first, but this is no proof that they are not looking at it as we speak.
  11. You have no idea about what you are talking about. You are just making assumptions with no real information behind your words. Re-read: Just because they aren't answering to your every spam threads doesn't mean they are not aware of the issue. Now re-read again, just to be safe. Screaming and causing a ruckus in forums does nothing to promote your standpoint.
  12. No this promotes nothing, not in the eyes of the developers and certainly not in the eyes of the classes that you want to bring down to your problems. It takes time in many games for balance issues to be resolved and a developer not posting here is does not in any way whatsoever mean that they are not looking into this. It wasn't really like guardian issues were the first priority on their list before it got fixed in the expansion.
  13. Exactly. It is rather easy to sit back behind a screen do lots of math equations and tell people that Guardian is the best tank. In actuality My guild has a Shadow main tank and we are doing greatly. Yes, certainly I do agree that Shadows have left kind of weak especially considering how hard some bosses can hit on 16 man encounters, but the gap is not as wide as some people here make it out to be, and more than anything else the solution to your problems are not linked in any way whatsoever with a nerf on guardians. When you come here advocating nerf on guardians because your own class is weak you come off as someone who is displeased with your gaming experience and wish that same displeasure on others who have a balanced class after the difficulties pre 2.0, and naturally people don't take kindly on that kind of attitude.
  14. Incorrect, and a very limited and simplistic approach. There are a lot of situations where a Shadow Tank could do a better job in comparison to a guardian.
  15. Done our first 16 man raiding on Sunday 11/08 and have 4/5 TFB HM, couldn't kill last boss due to time constraints. It was a first time experience for many members and despite that the raid was a very successful and entertaining one. Looking forward to new folks who would be interested in joining.
